What are some of Montgomery's key wins?

Station looked very good. They hit just over 58% from the field, including double digit 3s. They did not turn the ball over, and they were +9 rebounding (most of that had to come in the second half). That's how you win a ball game.

 

The two teams traded blows in the first half, with Station leading most of the half between 2-7 points. The Indians came out in the second half in man to man, and they did a poor job early in the quarter of containing dribble penetration. The lead built to double digits for the Defenders and Montgomery Co started to press things, and got very impatient offensively with a lot of uncharacteristic turnovers.

 

If Bryan Station plays like this, Henry Clay will be going home early, and the Defenders could be a dangerous first round foe for some 11th region team.

 

 

Let's remember that, in my opinion, something that has been sorely lacking from Bryan Station, not only this season, but in many year's past, was their lack of consistency shooting the ball from the floor.

 

The %'s they put up last night are not only good %'s for any team, they are especially high for Station. Simply put, they won't shoot the ball like that in most games. What you saw is probably something similar to what I saw in their game against PRP in the Republic Bank.

 

What I mean by that is Washington getting hot and just going into a zone where he plays like he's completely unconscious. When he's in that zone, there might not be a player in the 11th outside of Jackson Davis, Trent Gilbert or maybe Jordan Green that is more lethal. Admittedly, I haven't seen enough of Jordan Green and Darius Williams in the "zone" (especially in the kind of situation that Washington is in, kind of like he's in this year, where he's THE guy and that's almost it).

 

We're still talking about a team that is wildly inconsistent. They scored 50 in a loss to an 8-16 Tates Creek team on 2/13, however they only lost to Scott County by 12 on 2/6.

 

As an avid follower of the 11th, trust me when I say that inconsistency is the most consistent thing that you can see from this team. When they are on, they can legitimately take on anyone. At the same time, it would take a streak that I don't know that they have in them to go through their district, move on to region, and string together the games needed to win it.

 

 

All that said, if what you said is true, I am sincerely glad that the kids seem to enjoy playing for Brown and hope that he can turn some things around at Station. They are a school who has had some real success in the past, but, aside from some years when they had Shelvin Mack (or some before them with Tino Washington and Jaron Jones), I haven't really seen the kind of success that you might expect from the amount of talent that they have coming up through their feeder programs.

 

Here's one guy hoping that Brown has everything figured out and that things will begin to take care of themselves within their program.

2/9: Wayne County (@ MoCo, Joe B Hall Classic, 89-72)

 

Not exactly Murder's Row, but they beat Wayne County, among some other challenging home games. If I'm a MoCo fan, the lack of quality road wins is concerning if I'm thinking of my squad as a Top 10-15 team.

Thankfully for Montgomery, the 10th region is not as strong as it has been in the past. I only think of 3 teams who could compete for the title.

Sometimes Senior night ends up being anything but a celebration. Thankfully we have Nicholas away tonight and Harrison County at home on Friday night.

Disagree. No one is athletic as Station...yet this result is a shocker.

The kids from Station can now play without all of the stress that was obviously in play. With that being said, statistics do not lie. Washington is a good spot shooter but if he can be run off of the 3 point line he struggles to score off the dribble. If he was wide open, as jahearme pointed out, then there is no excuse. He's been playing for at least 3 years on varsity. Sounds like someone wasn't prepared. As far as district play goes...toss up at best. Jordan Green is back and he will be the best player on the floor.
