Freshman and jv refs this year Have been a joke. I know they are Human but some of these guys Have no idea What they are doing..Imo..

 

We haven't watched the same games, I'm guessing. For the most part I've thought the JV refs I've watched (boys games) have been pretty good. I did see one official in a JV girls game who probably was overmatched a bit but you're going to get that occasionally at that level. It's how they get started.

 

What bothered me about the original post I replied to is that even if you're new and rules are still a bit fuzzy it's EASY to look professional. The book tells you where to stand in each timeout scenario. A few though still wonder around and go talk to the scorekeeper ie "rec ball." It looks bad.

There were many contenders in the field this year with lots of exciting games. Most every game came down to the final few minutes of play - I saw 5 games that way! When Cooper beat Brossart, the Mustangs had the lead the entire game until Cooper hit 2 huge 3's in the final minute of the game. The game was played at 11am the day so I'd guess Brossart had their usual JV roster.

 

SK is good no doubt, but it certainly wouldn't have been a given they'd win it all here. Dixie vs. SK regular season game was a fun one to watch, being decided by 3 pts in the final minute. At the end of the day, they are still high school kids:) Anything can happen.

 

Congrats to Cooper for winning the championship. They played well and certainly earned it.

Boys Frosh and JV may have had different officials for the most part from the girls. Some of those that look professional had no idea what they were calling most of the time. Just seems like a lot of guys have picked up officiating in recent years that really don't know basketball. I applaud them for trying, but if you're as bad as some that I've seen this year, they really should think about trying something else.

From experience, boys games are much easier to call than girls in most cases. I just don't think brand new officials should be cutting their teeth at the Frosh/JV level. Start with elementary school, or even middle school levels.

I'm not sure doing the younger games is a make/break for doing high school games. I didn't do any younger games before I did high school.

Yes, but your high bb IQ made it easy! A lot of these new guys, just not so much there on the bb IQ side.
