Bishop Brossart 51 Highlands 36

Final from the LaRosas Hebron Holiday Classic. Congratulations to this years champions the Bishop Brossart Mustangs and to Conner Coach Stamm for putting on another excellent holiday tournament.

Great job Brossart. Congratulations on the tournament win!

Way to go Brossart, proud of your effort. Also congrats to Conner for a well run timely tournament.

Great game by the Mustangs. They outplayed Highlands in every category in my opinion. They deserved the win. Two big threes by my girl Abby King didn't help the Birds at all. They were very timely and really made the Birds pay. I think the key to this win was the "other" girls from Brossart stepping up and hitting some big shots. Stadtmiller and Futscher are both great players. But the key tonight was the other girls making plays, specifically Verst, Schultz and King. I love Stadtmiller's game. Can shoot outside, drive and finish and stop and pull up when needed. Brossart played great team defense tonight. At times, they had the Birds completely "stifled". Not sure why, but they did. Great game plan and execution by the Lady Mustangs tonight.

As for the Birds...I will say that in one of the previews before the season, I said that at times they may look like the best team in the region and at others they may look like the worst! Tonight...they looked like the worse at times. They are young and we all knew we were going to have games like this. In fact, they have already had a few games like this one, but were able to survive. They were thrown off their game early and were never really able to recover. You can't do that against a team like Brossart. You have to be able to take some blows and bounce back. They looked confused and lacked energy for most of the game. They didn't attack the basket like they know how (which some of that was Brossart's defense). They shot okay, but they didn't really look like anyone wanted to take the shot. They played very tentative for some reason. It was frustrating to watch. It didn't help that two starters (Adler and Leigh) got in early foul trouble and had to sit out key minutes, but they still had plenty of players on the floor to make runs and keep this one close. They just didn't.

Good win for the Mustangs and I look forward to the rematch down the road.

I was looking for you before eI left today, wanted to wish you all luck.

I love this tourney because just like last year, it is full of some very competitive games, thihs yeear was no different.

This region is filled with some really eveny matched teams and should maake for a great tournament. I don't see any team so far ahead of the other teams that it wwouldn

t surprise me with ny of 4 teams winning it this year. Any given night with these teams.

I agree. I think the regional tournament will be fun this year. I think we'll see some good games.

Great win & tourney for Brossart!! They looked tough in every game I saw them play & deserved that championship!!

As for the tourney in general, I agree this was an entertaining 3 days of girls basketball. My only complaint was the officiating. In every game I watched, I saw multiple bad calls & extreme inconsistencies! Some games they called it close out front protecting the guards but missed calls underneath for holding & even 3 second calls. The next game they called underneath but nothing up front from walks, double dribble or hand check fouls. Refs can't be blamed for a loss by a team but they can effect the flow of the game!! You know there is a real problem with the officiating when I saw more than one game when both teams had 4 or 5 players foul & more than a few players finishing with 4!! Someone needs to figure out how to ref more consistent because sitting thru the "whistle-fest" for 2hrs is getting ridiculous!!

Again kudos to Brossart for overcoming the bad officiating & winning!!!

Congrats to the 10th region Brossart Lady Stangs.

I've only seen a handful of girls games the year, but I'm assuming NCC and ND, who were absent from this tourney, are possible favorites for the 9th crown?

I was a bit surprised by the margin in this one. Had to miss the game but clearly the Brossart team is loaded with senior talent.
