My only regret for Raceland Football is that they have never had the opportunity to play in a setting like the State Championship where other football fans around the state can see them. I would venture a guess that most true football fans would love the way Raceland plays and the way the community supports the program. Maybe we can fix that problem this year.

Neat article. It's hard to believe that a school with the following and tradition of Raceland has never won a Regional Championship. Hopefully they can change that this season.

 

On another note I think you might be mistaken about LCA having a D-I running back in 2008. Dominique Hayden was the main running back on that LCA team. He plays at D-III Thomas More, not in D-I.

If that's the way you want to look at it. But, it wasn't meant to be misleading. I, as many others, consider a player a D1 caliber player when multiple D1 colleges offer them a scholarship.

 

But, if it makes everyone happier, Dominique Hayden did not play D1 Football. But he did rush for 1,965 yards in 2008 on 254 carries for 29 touchdowns. That's an average of 7.7 yards per carry and 151 yards per game.

 

In the regular season match up, Raceland held him to 43 yards. And in the Regional Championship game Raceland held him to 44 yard. I mistakenly said in the article that Raceland held him to 79 yards. Both these match ups were his lowest yardage totals of the year, maybe his carrier as a starter.

 

Everyone can draw their own conclusion on Dominique's ability.

Lexington Christian High School senior running backDomonique Hayden has set a new state record each of the past two weeks on the football field.

 

Now, he’s starting to hear a little more from the colleges.

 

The 5-foot-9, 220-pound Hayden said he’s now hearing from Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Miami of Ohio. He said he’s hoping for even more interest in the coming weeks.

 

During his career, Hayden now has 723 career points surpassing the old mark of 722 set in the 1960s by Old Kentucky Home’s Herbie Phelps and 119 career TDs, breaking the old mark of 110 from former Fort Knox star Derek Homer.

Never said it wasn't impressive. Either the guy was a D-I running back or he wasn't. And he wasn't. Interest doesn't equal offers and he didn't turn down a bunch of D-I offers to go to a non-scholarship D-III school. Just be honest and list him as an All-State running back. Because he was never a D-I running back.

Okay, if you say so. Getting offered a walk on position doesn't make you a D-I player. It is really this simple: in 20 years when someone asks them where they played they either say D-I or D-III. Period. All-State does not equal D-I. It can work the other way as well. My son was not an All-State selection yet he has 20 starts at EKU as a sophomore.

The debate for the Best Team in School History wold be decided in 2008. In 2008 the Rams posted an undefeated regular season with big wins over, then 1A power, Lexington Christian with a All-State Runningback, who had the opportunity to play at the D1 level, who was held to 43 yards. Raceland also had big wins over Ashland and Russell. This was the first win over Russell since the rivalry was renewed in 2007 after being suspended since 1974.

 

It's really just semantics isn't it?
