Three frosh on the starting defensive line?

 

Is this due to injury or have these kids earned the spots? Seems odd, even at a small school, that a program with the tradition and the success which the Pirates have enjoyed would need to play frosh. How big are these kids? Most frosh that play varsity are athletes, not kids that have the strength and size to be a varsity lineman.

 

Two earned their starting spot before the season started. Horton is going to be a monster. David Jones' cousin and if he puts the effort in will be an All-State caliber player.

 

Hall has started at DE all year and has a ton of physical gifts. He is going to be a special player.

 

Bentley got the start at Nose and I am not sure if it is due to injury or beating out the incumbent..but Bentley has been starting all year at TE. He is 6'4 and around 265 and is already high on several recruiting watch lists after a camp circuit where he garnered awards at both Florida and Alabama's camp. He was selected as an 8th Grade All-American and competed in San Antonio.

 

Belfry's Freshman players were part of a Middle School State Championship team who destroyed everything in their path last year. Very talented crop that has also produced Belfry's starting placekicker (who still only has two missed XP's for the entire season) and their top reserve at DB.'

 

The 2013 Belfry Middle School team plays for another State Title today and have crushed all their opponents with the exception of a pair of overtime losses to Johnson Central. JC is undefeated and competing for the Championship in the largest Middle School Division today. The talent pool for Belfry is about to be deeper than it has been in a long time.

After re-reading my post I wanted to add that I didn't mean to take anything away from Johnson Central. They are big and physical, and they are very well coached. I think they probably are one of the top teams in their class. I just don't think I'd put them ahead of their 2010 squad because I don't think their defense is as good as that team.

 

JC teams are always solid and I would like to see them come to the fort. I will say this.. Highlands offense is off the charts. If they dont turn it over there is a good chance they will score everytime they get the ball. Now the defense.... if they are healthy and put the same defense on the field that played Elder then Highlands will win by a good margin but if they cant stop JCs run game it could be a ball game. First thing is first you will have to beat Cov Cath and if they are healthy that wont be easy. Good luck in the playoffs and stay injury free.

It would take a heroic effort by JC's defense to stop Highlands offense for less than 40 points IMHO... but if they do... the Eagles have the offense and size to make it interesting

 

If they do meet it will be interesting to see the collisions that will happen in this game. JC runs the ball hard and I have been watching the Birds play for a long time now and I am not sure I have seen a more hard hitting cast on this defense. There is a reason they did not play after the Elder game. They just punish there own bodies the way they hit. Could be some loud pops that night.

I don't think anyone from JC is overlooking Cov. Cath. I don't know much about Conner but the beat down that they laid on them caught my eye. I know that the colonels have been hit by the injury bug but the matchup between these two is normally a dandy. I just hope JC takes care of business early and we all get to see the matchup with Highlands.

Belfry finishes the year with two losses, and truthfully those were the only two close games they had, both coming to JC. Those losses came in OT and Double OT respectively. Belfry defeated Barrett (Louisville), East Carter, and Pike Central to reach the Finals. Wayne County had defeated

North Hardin, Casey County, and Spencer County.

 

JC defeated Jefferson County Traditional, North Laurel, and Knox County. Farnsley reached the Finals after defeating Christian County, NOE (North Oldham I think), Olmsted North (Lou), and Johnson Middle (Lou).

 

LCA defeated New Harlan (Harlan Co), CAL, Owen County, and Frankfort. Edmonson reached the Finals beating Meece (Somerset), Owensboro Catholic, and Williamsburg.

 

Corbin defeated Elkhorn (Franklin Co), Johnson County, South Pulaski, and Whitley County. Bowling Green had defeated Glasgow, Graves Co, Paducah, and South Warren
