Blackman coming to Bowling Green ...

Featured Replies

A buddy and me went to the Blackman vs Oakland game (packed house!) this past Thursday night. Although it was a very ugly game with crazy turnovers, Blackman does have size (bigger than St X) and speed (faster than anyone we have seen this year). It does puzzle you on how kids the same age can be so big and fast all assembled on one team. I do think BG can win. Blackman seemed very undisciplined. They jumped off sides on several occasions and couldn't for the life of them hang on to the ball. No way they will turn it over again against the Purples that many times.

Blackman fans told us that their QB (junior!) was offered by Ohio State before he even took a snap at QB position. He looks like Vince Young, 6"4 and runs like a deer. What is scary is that they only have one senior in a skill position that they will miss. They certainly had numerous chances to beat Oakland (Oakland is unreal - huge running team that is very skilled AND disciplined).

Blackman will be BG's biggest test since Trinity games and has what it takes to beat us. With that said, I dont know how much they know about Fant (I am sure they do) but if they single coverage him, I will take it. If they cheat on him a little, Pillow will kill them ( I still think Blake Pillow will be fastest kid on the field). The key to the game will be if BG offensive line can give enough time for Devin (I may be bias, but I would take Devin Hayes over their QB!). The other key will be how our D-line can put pressure on their QB. Their QB is very raw but if he gets loose he will get a first down (or more) every time and can do a lot (more with his feet than arm - he actually throws a ugly ball in my opinion)

Sorry to bore you all with all of this but this will be a huge test (much needed test) for the Purples. Main thing is no injuries. If BG staff reads this (probably wont) I say play to win! Dont rest starters or play cautious. Let the kids enjoy and compete! Keep the streak alive. I think we can win state even if we a little banged up.

I say Purples win 40 to 35.

If Purples score a lot it will be first time anyone has done so on them! I think only 2 times has someone scored in the twenties on them

The knock on Blackman is that they haven't played anyone so it will be interesting to see just how good they really are. I think this is a great match up for both teams.

I wouldn't say they haven't played anyone. Independence has 3 SEC commitments. Smyrna is a very tough rival. Oakland is a favorite to win the 6a title. Blackman is much better than St. X & McCallie.

That's a very good assessment. How did the Purples give up 36 to McCallie? Big plays...or what happened?

I think Blackman has a very good defense. Can they slow down a very good offense? I also think Blackman will score. Should be a fun game to watch.

McCallie played their best game against the purples. They had 2 kickoff returns. Whoever says blackman has not played anyone needs to learn more about the district blackman plays in. Should be a classic

Since McCallie is 3-6...I think you are right. They play a killer schedule. You are also right about Blackman's district. Some of those teams like Riverdale are down somewhat this year...but still pretty good.

I was going by what their QB said prior to the Oakland game concerning their run of mercy rule games. He said something to the effect of "people say we aren't playing any good teams" and all I was saying is that appears to be the knock against Blackman.

If everything said about Blackman is accurate then I expect them to win on Friday.

Someone made the statement about Blackman's 28-13 win over Smyrna, at 6-3, not being that good a team and not a very impressive win. Trust me, Smyrna is a lot like McCallie, in that they play a brutal schedule and while there record may not be great, it's still filled with quality wins and losses. It's kinda like looking at Trinity or St Xs record and assuming they aren't very good. Simply not true.

I actually expect Blackman to come out on top in this one. BG had a tough time getting stops at McCallie with there speed and Blackman has as much speed or more than they did, but, they have a better line and better D. I think BG can score some against them, just don't think it'll be enough to win the game. I'm thinking it'll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-21, Blackman. Hope I'm wrong.

Cardinal you could be correct, although I hope you are wrong! I know I get a little too pumped but I have been caught up in "the streak." I know it wont be end of world if the Purples lose but I am pulling for them.

Blackman QB, number 7 (wide receiver), their linebacker number 3 (looks like Ray Lewis - thick!) and a couple of their DB's are tall and fast. It will be the biggest kid (maybe one of the fastest kids) that will be guarding Fant and Pillow. Again, their O-line and D-line are really big. Someone can run the numbers but I think they are nearly as big (maybe bigger) that WKU line. No joke

It will be fun

I believe Blackman is 8-1. They lost to an undefeated Oakland 6-3.

I think it was 9-3 but yes that was their first loss of the season. Oakland is a very good team is my understanding. I am hoping for a BG win but I expect a loss and then I expect a lot of people discrediting BG as a result. No worries....as fans of other programs say after a loss to a team that is better than them....."the playoffs are the only season that matters and this game will make us better for the ultimate goal of winning the state title."
