Week Three Recap

 

It was a good week on the football field in Tiger land. The varsity took on the Holy Cross Indians and posted a solid win, 34-7. With the tough out of district schedule the Tigers play, this was a good game for the Tigers to get fine tuned for a difficult three week run against big schools. Sophomore QB Kyle Fieger was the offensive star versus Holy Cross, throwing 4 TD passes and running for another TD. The defense was tested again by the run as Holy Cross put their offense into the hands of outstanding RB Jalen Beal. The Tigers did a good job of containing the fast and hard running Beal, making him earn every yard he got. Middle LB Brett Finck made a difference by clogging up the middle. Defensive backs Devon Everett and Joe Studer were outstanding and made tackles all over the field.

 

The JV had no opponent in week 3, but the freshmen took on the Highlands Bluebirds. The young Tigers took it straight at the Bluebirds with RB Trevor Soward scoring 6 TD's. The Tigers bounced back from a couple tough losses to get the win over the Birds, 52-35. It is always nice to get a win at any level over one of the benchmark football programs in the state.

 

The Week Ahead

 

The varsity starts their three week run versus big school opponents with a road trip to the 5A power Franklin County Flyers. The Flyers are aptly named as their offense has been one of the most high flying offenses in the state over the past few seasons. This game will be a major challenge for the Tigers defense and offense. The offense needs to get more consistent and control the game clock to help the defense out and keep the Flyers offense on the sideline. The Flyers typically play high scoring games so if you love offense, this should be a game you don't want to miss.

 

The JV will host the 6A Ryle Raiders at 10 am Saturday. This will be a tough turnaround for the JV as they will likely get in late from their road trip Friday night to Franklin County, only to be back on the field early Saturday morning.

 

The freshmen play at Dixie Heights. Game time is 6:00 Thursday. The Tigers need to build on their success last week and get a win to even their record at 2-2.

 

Remembering Pam Vocke

 

Last week, Pam Vocke, suddenly passed from a heart attack at the young age of 41. Pam was the mother of 2012 graduate and outstanding football and track star, Cameron Vocke.

 

Anyone who has attended a Tigers game over the past few years has seen or met Pam Vocke. Pam jumped into the Tiger family with both feet. She became a leader in the Athletic Boosters and volunteered tirelessly to do the behind the scenes work many people take for granted. Pam was a single mother who devoted her time and energy to her son. Anyone who has ever met Cameron and what a great young man he is will see in him what a tremendous mom Pam was. The beauty of their relationship - there are no regrets. They were so close and shared so much together that they got everything possible out of their time together.

 

It has been a difficult couple months for the Tiger family. Chad Everett, father of current Tigers Devon and Dalton and former Tiger Dane, passed away at the end of July following a long hard battle against a rare form of cancer. And now we have lost Pam Vocke. Please keep these two families in your thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear of these losses to the TIGER family, will pray for these families.
