NCC makes it 4-3 on a long shot that hits side netting.

 

Lots of tries but game ends 4-3 CCH.......

I just started watching these threads. I have no Boys playing High School soccer, but am always interested in the Local teams. Since you appear to be in the know, I wanted to ask you...

 

I ran into a CCH kid at Skyline back in early August. I asked him how they were going to be this year. He simply said, "I think we are going to be pretty good" I asked him "State Good?" he just looked at me and smiled. So was he right?

 

Oh yeah, related to this thread... Are the Girls Refs different from the boys? I have seen girls literally tackle another player from behind. Saw it last night. While a penalty was called, I have yet to see a Yellow Card, yet-alone a Red card as I have read about in other BOYS threads. I have also seen a few high-kicks come within inches of player's heads and girls charging up to the Refs to argue a call.

Same refs do both boys and girls, so personnel is the same.

 

Soccer is very hard to predict, but I would be surprised if any NKY team on either side advanced to the semi's or beyond in the post season. NDA might be the exception, but they took a pretty big step backward from the level they have been the past couple of years.

Very unlikely that a boys team will get far at the state level but really, Kentucky is down as a whole this year and there is a lot of parity/mediocre teams out there so it's possible. CCH is average really this year but that is still towards the top end of N. Ky. soccer this year. Keep in mind their starting lineup is mostly sophomores and juniors. They will be very strong for the next few years but this is probably not their year.

Regarding Bolded ... two of the five cards were for "delay of game" ... where players played the ball away after a blown whistle. One card for each team. I liked the referee trying to take control of that.

 

I've only seen three boys games this year, so I'm interested in other fans opinion of the physical style of play that both of these teams played last night. A lot of fouling by both sides, which killed the flow of play. If he wanted, I believe the center could have gone to the pocket several additional times ... on both sides.

 

Kudos to CovCath for winning more than their share of 50/50 balls and almost every ball in the air. They were tenacious in this regard. Kudos to NCC for not giving up after getting down 4-1. They finished out the game strong.

Nice post Easy........my two cents......which by the way, put with $5.98 would get you into the game to watch....

 

I personally think he was a little too slow to go to the pocket. If he had carded a few players (both sides) early, the game wouldn't have been as rough and he would have been in more control..........I found a couple of his cards came after a long delay, and it seemed.....right or wrong....that the crowd/coaches helped him make the decision.......

NCC didn't play as well as they have the last few games - weren't winning the ball, passing as well, didn't maintain their intensity and there were several defensive breakdowns. They had a few chances in the beginning of the game where the keeper was beat, but couldn't capitalize because Cov Cath's defense cleared the ball or the shot was no good. I'm not even sure how Cov Cath scored two of their goals so easily in the second half and then they actually broke down some and let NCC come back and score twice at the very end of the game.

 

I personally do not think this game was that rough compared to some of the games I have seen this year. I don't think the flow of the game was interrupted that much due to fouls. The NCC vs Boone Co and NCC vs Highlands games were a different story. The flow of the game was killed in both of those game due to the large amounts of fouls that were called, in my opinion some of them should have just been ignored (on both sides). The Boone Co. game was a very rough game and it seemed like every minor thing was called but some blatant fouls were ignored and the game got a little out of control for awhile.

It's funny how people watch games and see different things. NCC was by far the rougher, more physical of these two teams. They were bigger and probably faster overall. The Colonels matched their physical play so yes, it was a physical game. Not a whole lot more physical than others that they have played but it was rough and that's really not CCH's style, especially with so many young players starting. After absorbing NCC's initial 15-20 minutes of attack, CCH methodically broke NCC down with their possession and I though superior skill level. NCC looked clearly winded from chasing the ball at the end of the first half and that showed in the second. I'm not saying that if they played again NCC couldn't win because they could, but on this night, CCH was clearly better to me. CCH is not the best team I've seen but they are improving pretty rapidly after a slow start.
