With Central losing two straight is 2013 the year of the Pirate? Is 2013 the year Belfry finally gets by Central and brings home a title? Or is Central just playing a much stronger schedule than Belfry and in the end it will be Central over Belfry once again?

 

I am leaning Pirates.

If the playoffs started tomorrow I would scoff at the suggestion. There is a lot of football to be played yet and several teams who stand in the way of Belfry even reaching that level.

 

However there is a lot of excitement in Belfry right now. The Pirates return one of their best group of skill players in recent memory. The OL needs some time to develop, and they are young on defense. With the whole season ahead of us, though, the Pond Creek Nation is a little giddy thinking about how good this team can be by November.

 

They have beefed up their schedule this year too, adding Harlan County, Gallia Academy, OH and Knoxville Christian Academy, TN all in hopes of better preparing them for hopefully another shot at Central.

Central defeated Lafayette..they are 1-1

 

Belfry will be stout come November..but they are more than likely taking a step back from last season. Pirates have 6 Freshman either starting or playing significant minutes.

 

 

Possibly the best thing that would happen to Belfry is for someone else to take out Central. Scroggins has been preparing for Belfry's offense for years now and his LB's are tailor made to hinder the Pirates progress. If a team like Tilghman or Wayne County were to meet them in the Finals it would take away some of that familiarity.

 

As Tusi said..Belfry's schedule has been significantly improved this year with a non-district slate including possibly a Top 3 2A team (Somerset..when the smoke settles), a Top 3 5A Team (Harlan County), a CAK team that is the defending TN 3A Champs, a solid Gallia Academy team, a potential Top 5 4A Team (Johnson Central), and a potential Top 3 1A team (Pikeville). Not a Central murder's row schedule...but significantly improved over years past for Belfry.
