Top Teams and Players in 12th Region

Featured Replies

Trying to keep up with my hometown region...

I know Southwestern, Boyle, Lincoln and Mercer will be tough. I'm sure Pulaski will be solid again.

Southwestern has Kapinga, Edwards and their big guy back. Boyle has Tyler, Elkins, a key transfer, etc. back. Mercer was very young last season and has basically everyone back. Lincoln looked solid this summer. Casey County has a change at the helm and I expect them to be very competitive.

What's the report on everyone else? Who do I need to keep an eye on?

Thanks guys!

The 12th region is going to be very solid top to bottom. There are as many as 5 teams who could win the region. IMO,

Top Teams : ( no particular order )

Wayne Co

Southwestern

Boyle Co

Mercer Co

Lincoln Co

Pulaski Co

West Jessamine

Top players: ( no particular order )

Justin Edwards : SW

David Kapanga: SW

Hagen Tyler: Boyle Co

Corey Stearns: Wayne Co

Dalton Peters: West Jessamine

Ronnie Carson: East Jessamine

Will Hager: Mercer Co

Russel Simms: Mercer Co

Will Henderson: West Jessamine

Ryan Dishman: Somerset

Colton Elkins: Boyle Co

Austin Sebastian: Garrard Co

Clayton Ray: Boyle co

Jacob Conway: Lincoln Co

Timmy Taylor: Lincoln Co

Also keep an eye out for a 8th grader that plays at Mercer Co. First name is Trayvon. Can't remember last name. Kid was impressive during summer and has loads of potential

Definitely need to add Woods from Wayne County. Pretty good list otherwise. I'm really interested to see quick kids from class of '16 step up this year. Wiil, Stearns and Elkins are only 3 mentioned, and Elkins' mention is based on potential at this point (and I agree he has it). Couple of kids in that class that come to mind are Drew Davis (Mercer). He missed last year due to injury. Another is Slade Crutchfield from Garrard. Played well last year, a lot too unselfish at times. Smart and long for a 12th region guard.

Treyvon will surprise some people this year but I think will be a major contributor his freshman year. Complete player, very unselfish, plays intelligently. Really like this kid. Needs more strength and to get better defensively. Coach Britt is working on that.

2014 12th Region tournament should have Wayne, Southwestern, Somerset, Pulaski, Boyle, Lincoln, Mercer, and West Jessamine, which would be a repeat of the 2013 tournament. Wayne is poised to repeat as 12th region champs. But, they will have to replace a leader and valuable part of last years team in Dagan Shelton. Logan Gardner will probably replaced him and join returning starters Woods, Blevins, Perkins, and Stearns. Southwestern lost more role players to graduation than people realize and the transfer of Collier will hurt. But, they will have a strong 4 players in Kapinga, Edwards, Gaskins, and Isaacs. The 5th starter and 6th man could be either 8th grader Danny Butt or 8th grader Steven Fitzgerald. I don't see McCreary competing with these 2 teams in the 48th District.

The 47th District will be interesting with all of the change that has happened due to graduation and transfers. Somerset is my preseason pick from the 47th with Pulaski behind them. Somerset returns the most experience with Ryan Dishman, Cheuvront, and Tyler Dishman returning from last years regional runner up team. They lost a lot inside to graduation and the transfer of Farris really hurt. But I still think SHS is the early favorite out of the 47th. Pulaski was hurt the most by graduation. They lost 90% of their scoring and is in a rebuilding year. But, don't count them out. They have a very good young group of kids that by March could be ready to make some noise. Casey is the dark horse with their new coach Maze Stallworth. He made a big impact this summer on the AAU circuit and could bring that to Casey, but he has a lot of work to do.

I will let other critique the 45th and 46th districts. I will post my thoughts at a later time. My region ranking would be 1) Wayne 2) Southwestern 3) Boyle 4) Lincoln 5) Mercer 6) West Jessamine 7) Somerset 8) East Jessamine 9) Pulaski 10) Garrard

Top players:

Sothwestern-Kapinga, Edwards

Wayne-Stearns, Woods

Somerset-R. Dishman

Boyle-Tyler

Lincoln-Taylor

W. Jessamine-Henderson

Mercer-Simms, Hager

E. Jessamine-Carson
