Bryon Carver-Tighend-Warren Central

Featured Replies

The 6-3 220 pound tight end, who also plays linebacker has the size to play at a high level in college, especially on the defensive side of things. I.M.O.

Will the coaching staff get him more involved in the passing game to help the new starting QB?

Can he play well enough on both sides of the ball to make recruiters take notice?

What is odd is that for all of Warren Central's success they have yet to have a player in the last three years sign to play at the I-A or I-AA level. Even now with Porter-Bunton, Smith, and Carver kids, they have yet to see a athletic-scholarship based offer come into the program (Navy has been said to have offered Porter-Bunton). During that time, Warren East, BG, and South Warren have all had players offered I-A offers.

With the way that's phrased, I guess the question is do you think there should have been a player that should have signed? If so, who is to blame for that? Or is Warren Central like some other teams in that they have great success with great high school players, not next level prospects?

Both Rivals and Scout list Porter-Bunton as receiving an offer from Navy. I suspect he could certainly go to a I-AA level school and may yet receive other offers at the I-A level. Playing QB may hurt that, but hopefully not. Scout lists Emmitt Smith as holding offers from both UK and WKU. Rivals does not, but has them among several schools with interest. If he keeps working, I believe he will sign with a I-A school.

It is worth noting that both of the marquee players that have committed recently came up through the Warren Central feeder system. If South Warren did not exist (or had not been built in that specific location), Adrian Middleton (UK Commit) would have been at Warren Central. He played at Moss. Warren East's Eli Brown (Vandy Commit) did play at Warren Central as a freshman, transferring to Warren East last season as a sophomore. I've heard versions of that story from each side as to why that occurred. WC's loss were those teams gains. The thought of the defense WC could have had in a perfect universe makes me weep. Throw in that they lost Eblen for the same reason as Middleton and they'd have had a good enough QB to keep Porter-Bunton out wide. South Warren cost WC more than one would've thought at first.

As to the main subject of the thread, I believe Byron looks like he is putting in the work that at times in the past I've heard he was failing to do. He looks real good physically coming in this year. It does hurt him that he is now into his senior year without the benefit of gaining traction before this point. I think it will be tough for him to make up lost ground, but I certainly hope for the best. He certainly looks the part. His play on the defensive side of the ball has always been stellar. He was Porter-Bunton's favorite (ONLY) target last year when he threw passes in backup duty, so they've got a good rapport.
