This from the All A Classic, didn't see a thread on it.

Anyway, Barbourville did a great job defensively making it difficult for the Panthers to get good looks.

Matthew Cox was outstanding dishing out 11 assists, many of them to Aaron Grubb (23 pts) and Chris Good (19).

Jerrell Mayo for Russellville is a sharp ballplayer; he had 22 pts, 7 rebounds. Russellville is young, and can be dangerous in this event if they get back next year. They seemed kind of overwhelmed by the atmosphere.

On another note, those of you out there who have this idea in your head that Barbourville can knock off South Laurel are flat-out crazy. Barbourville has a nice team, but they have nowhere near the depth and ballhandling needed to beat South Laurel.

Heard on the broadcast that Russellville played a 7th grader, any info on him?

He hit a pair of threes and grabbed two boards and a steal in 11 minutes of work.

Strong statement.......I hope we get to see these two match-up in the region.....

Depth is overrated in my opinion, anyway Barbourville plays seven and South Laurel also only plays seven except in blowouts. Vanover's ability to help Cox handle the press would be a key to being able to pull the upset, he struggled last night with turnovers but has the ability to play much better.

Congrats to Barbourville on their win. To think a Dinky Phipps coached team has no chance against SL is dangerous. But I guess I am just crazy.

Keep on believing this whole "Barbourville can beat SL" thing if it makes you feel better.

Again, Barbourville has a nice team, and if SL weren't there, they could win the region (although Clay and Corbin would have something to say). But Barbourville's lack of depth will kill them in a tournament situation. And they don't have enough ballhandlers to deal with the SL press. And their weak schedule will hurt them.

But SL is a good 15 points better than B'ville.

I agree with most of your points and yes South is 15 points better than B'ville, but I just think that since high school basketball is one loss and your out once you get to the region that strange things happen sometimes. Coach Wright really was under fire a few years back when they went into the tournament as heavy favorites a couple times only to get knocked off in huge upsets.
