No, there will be split State Championships.

The split came about after trying to create divisions/classes to acknowledge the different stages programs are in. The problem was that the methodology used the PREVIOUS years LAXPower ratings to create the new classes or splits. None of the schools outside of Jefferson County have consistent enough strength to use this specific method of determining the class splits. So apparently there was no other alternative approach and the agreement was to split into a Jefferson County centered league and a State-wide league - mostly geographical based.

So St. X is the State Champion for its league. There will be separate state champion for the other league. For all practicle purposes the leagues are like classes in football, etc. And without a doubt the Louisville Leagues the '2A' and the statewide the '1A'.

The regular season St. X - Henry Clay game, scheduled for the last week of the season, would have been the 'defacto' unified state championship game had it been played. It was disappointing that it was cancelled.

Since there are also girls teams, any chance of this becoming a sanctioned sport. Its popularity is growing.

Some folks on here with more knowledge about how the KHSAA works can maybe correct me, but I think the state has to have a certain percentage of the schools agree to participate in a sport before it can be sanctioned. I'm not sure what the magic number is, but I seem to recall that information coming out last year prior to the adoption of bowling.

Thanks. So we sanction bass fishing with two man teams, and no scholarships available, and our leaders ignore an up and coming sport, with scholarships available!?

I would think bass fishing (and to a lesser extent bowling) would have more appeal in the rural areas of the state than would lacrosse. I fully expect lacrosse to be a KHSAA sport within the next decade, just based on the growing interest around the state/country. It would help if UK or Louisville had NCAA-level lacrosse, not just Bellarmine. That would drive up interest and recognition.

Don't forget Transylvania and Centre. They are D-III NCAA.

I have heard that it will be 'looked at' in a couple of years. With KHSAA taking on middle school sports I think they have their hands full. The status as club teams is not really an issue at this point. And the levels of programs vary widely at this point making it harder to come up with single standard - as the split this year showed.

Semi-finals of KLA are set.

The seeds have played out mostly with the top 4 teams in the semi-finals.

Games are Wednesday night.

Henry Clay hosts Takes Creek.

Dunbar will host Lexington Catholic in the first LAX game on Dunbar's turf field.
