Why is there not alot of football teams in the Eastern Kentucky?

Not a lot of flat ground?

Consolidation of schools.

There are probably more football teams in eastern Kentucky for its population than any other part of the state. Despite consolidiation, there are very fiew 4A schools in the area, and we have more than our share of 1A and 2A teams. My guess is that the average enrollment at an eastern Kentucky school is smaller than for any other part of the state, which means that we probably have more, not fewer football teams considering the number of people living in the region.

It probably seems that there are less teams because Eastern KY is more rural than other areas of the state. NKY has a ton of schools in three counties because of the proximity to Cincinnati. Lexington and Louisville are big cities that have a lot of schools. An Eastern KY county may only have 1-2 high schools whereas other more urban counties have 5-10 high schools. I think that it is just a matter of population distribution.
