What about the passer bouncing the ball before the pass? I thought that was a violation? Is there any limit to how far back the inbounds passer can stand?

This may sound like a dumb question, but when you say "no limit", I presume that means one can only go back as far as the court was built. You can't go back as in up in the stands or if the surface is different, can you?
