What a game. Powell lead by 10 in the first half, first quarter actually. Estill made their in the second but trailed 25-20 at halftime. Estill made a good effort in the third quarter. Fourth, went back and forth. Estill would tie up, Powell would take the lead, Estill would tie it up, take the lead, Powell would tie it up, take the lead. Powell had the ball with right around 15-20 secs to go (Estill lead 46-45), Brett Goodwin made a layup with 4.5 secs to go to take a 47-46 lead, Estill threw it in, got to halfcourt, Powell slapped it out of bounds with 2 seconds to go...Estill threw it in, Morris got it right around the grey has mark (NBA Range) right in front of the Estill student section, Morris throws it up and it goes in!!!! As soon as that shot went in, you couldn't see Estill's floor.

Here's the buzzer beater. The Expression on Coach Bentley's face is priceless. Professor, how come none of the Owls showed up? The only one that showed up from another team was Gabbard from Lee...Evans didn't show, Allen or Shelby didn't show....

I thought the girls championship was tonight and the boys was tomorrow night. That's what I told my brothers today because he was going to go. He may have still been there, but if not he will be mad at me for misinforming him, lol.

To show how even this district has been all year, every game during the season between the 4 teams was close. Now, in the district tournament, the same thing. In the 3 games in the tournament, Powell beat Owsley by 3 in a game that the lead changed 4 times in the last 90 seconds and Owsley barely missed a 3 at the horn which would have tied the game. Estill beats Lee by 2 and Lee missed a shot at the horn, and Estill wins tonight by 1 tonight on a last second 3 pointer.

The 56th was probably the most even and competitive district in the state. Not a lot of great win-loss records but the games within the district were great.

Estill is trying their best to get it as a top 10 play on sportscenter. They've got it on youtube, facebook, allkyhoops.com, they've got this video everywhere. Professor I sent you a PM.

All State, to answer your question about why the Owsley players didn't show up, I honestly don't know. Maybe they were still feeling down from their opening round loss to Powell and just didn't feel like going. At teen's ages you never know what's going on with their thinking or feelings.

That may have been why, I know they called Shelby's name first, no show, they called Allen's name, no show. I'm sure Estill will get them their trophy's. I didn't even see Coach Green or Coach Wright there but that doesn't mean that they weren't, they could have been sitting up on the upper section of the bleachers.

Honestly Professor I believe if it was Played at Lee County, Lee would have won, if it had been played at Powell County, Powell would have won, if it ha been at Owsley, Owsley would have won. This years district tournament is the most even I've ever seen it.

 

As for the regional tournament, I honestly think the only way Estill can make it past th first round is if they draw Leslie or Wolfe. I feel they can beat Wolfe at Estill or on a neutral court, it's very difficult to defeat the Wolves in the Wolfe den, if Estill draws the loser of KCC/Cordia then they're out in the first round. I think Powell gets Breathitt

Estill's best draw would be either Leslie or Wolfe. There's not much difference between those two teams. I think Estill could beat either one of the two. It's sad that Estill has had so many injuries this year. They would be so much better with their point guard and the other kid who is out. But that stuff happens to all teams at one time or another. Grove sat out half the season for us last year and when he finally did come back he was only half speed.

Heartbreaker for Powell. Congrats to Estill on the win.
