Ugly game. Only 14-14 at half. Rams poured it on in the 4th quarter to secure win. Raceland committed way too many turnovers.

Good game by Sparks kid inside the paint he must have had 20pts. This game should have been a blow out by the Rams. Very confused with the substitution rotation of the starters. One starter didn't even play 1 min ( 56 sec) before beng pulled. The Rams benched struggled and they didn't take over the game until the staters came back in the game in the 4th qtr. From what I've seen. Maybe the wrong guard gets pulled to much. My Red Devils could use him on Dodd Squad. But it's a W for the Rams.

Raceland does as many teams do, and substitutes following a free throw, to set their press. This is what happened in this game. Jacob Sparks hit a shot and was fouled inside the first minute and Raceland substituted following the made free throw.

 

As for the starters taking over the 4th, I'm not sure. But they started the 2nd half. It's a team game and everyone is responsible for wins and losses. Regardless of whom plays.

I would think a true Devil fan would be at the Furnace to watch Russell struggle with 4-13 Lewis, just as they struggled with 5-13 Lawrence last Tuesday at home. The Pre-Season #1 should be as you say "blowing out these teams".

Sparks was dominant in this game. Bath had no size and the Rams used their big guy the way they were suppose to. The player you are referring to does get frustrated, but has stuck it out for 4 years. AS good as the Dodd squad is SUPPOSE to be, he's happy where he is, as a Ram. :ylsuper:

We will see if Doddymania will reign supreme come March. Teams that limp throughout the season sometimes cant find that last gear to kick into in late February, early March. All eyes will be on the cover boys of the Dodd Squad.

 

BTW I dont think I would call it "on the ropes". Raceland led the entire game and substituted liberally throughout. But the Cardiac Rams made it close in the last minute just to give the fans something to talk about on BGP. :jump:

Understand setting up the press after a FT which has cost the Rams some games. But the player they took out is quicker on defense and hardly ever turns the ball over.

And by the way. It was the starters in the 4th Qtr that took the game over to secure the win. Bath Co keep the game close and got within 2.

The Pre-Season #1 if I remember got the "W" with bench players over the Ramblers. Coming off a State Champs Football season and starters not even on the floor due to sickness & etc..... Count your state title ?

Thought this would be a better game and they need all the support they can get. Plus got ties to both schools.

We may not have the state titles you have, but we do ok for a small school. Everyone knows the 2A division in football is the weakest in the state. :thumb:

The Rams got a win they should had gotten against a weaker opponent. Maybe the younger players getting to play so much in this game was because of who the opponent was. Coach knew he could tinker a little in this game.

We would of had as good a chance as Russell would of had to win 1A.

Notice how a basketball thread a suddenly turned into a football thread. That is a debate on another day. I have no ties to either school, but I feel pretty confident that Russell would have made a good better run in 1A.

Since I have to reply to Bilas. I will give you this food for thought on this football stuff. Raceland and Russell do not play football against each other because of Ivan McGlone. Not bashing the coach so dont jump the gun Russell and IvanBall fans, but its a fact. All this banter is pure conjecture, but many people believe on both sides Maroon and Orange that these teams that are about 2 miles apart should meet annually on the football field, then we wouldnt have to argue about who is the best, they could just decide it on the field. Anyway if you compare scores which is all we have to hypothesis with if Russell would have won the single A title are these: Russell-Newport 34-33 in OT and NewCath-Newport 49-20. Russell should be proud of their State Championship but keep a healthy respect for your opponents.

I bet you didnt know that my nephew hit the game winner in the 16th region championship for the Devils some years ago only to have Frankie Francis wave it off? Instead of playing at Rupp he had to spend 4 days in the hotel with a bunch of Ramblers.

Russell would gain nothing playing Raceland. But before the realignment of the district. I know that Russell had 1 opening for many years and the Rams did NOt want any part of it. But Russell would gain nothing playing a 1A school. I guess we forgot that we were 3A for many years.

I was not bashing Raceland. Got a lot of respect for the Ramblers. I was just wonder on some of the tactics and subs from the coach.

The kid they took out only 56 sec into the game is a solid player. If anything you take out your slower player if you are going to press from the start. This game should have been over at the tip off.
