As for the decision making going into rescuing the dog...I'm not a fire fighter there. I don't know the call volume, how many fire fighters they have available, or how much of an area they cover. It's possible that they had several other firemen on standby incase of another call.

 

Bigger departments do. Smaller departments rely on other departments to provide help. However, those other departments are not as close.

 

So would you be upset if your house burned and the damage was worse because it took the department longer to get there because of the dog?

What if someone's house catches on fire during the Memorial Day parade and because the fire department was taking part in the parade they get to your house later and the damage is worse....Stupid parade.

It depends on where they drive it to ie how far from the firehouse. I've worked with a lot of firehouses. I can't say I've seen them simply using it to go get lunch. They do go get lunch while they might be out doing a building inspection with the truck.

Nope, I really don't give a flying crap about possessions. As long as myself, my girlfriend, and my dog were okay, I'm cool. Everything else can be replaced.

No. They aren't in the future predicting business. They had no idea my house would catch on fire.

 

You have no idea about whether or not they had more firefighters available. Regardless, I don't think it's wrong of them to save the dog. In the end we can if all day about everything. There are a lot of things that could have happened. But they didn't.

Holy heck would be raised if they got stuck in the parade.

 

To your point I expect them to be available in the most timely manner to respond to a fire or a case where EMS is needed. If they have personnel to handle it I also expect them to inspect businesses and buildings for any problems ie proactive.

In fact, they're already out and in the truck...what if the dog made them respond faster? They're not sleeping. They dont have to wake up and get dressed. They're dressed and ready to go...

Yes, they can obviously "move on" but every minute it takes them to pack up their stuff and for every extra minute it takes to get to your house the chance for considerable property damage and potential death for humans rises.
