Second Region Top 10

  1. Hopkinsville
  2. Henderson County
  3. Christian County
  4. University Heights
  5. Madisonville
  6. Webster County
  7. Fort Campbell
  8. Trigg County
  9. Union County
  10. Lyon County

Top of the Hill – Hopkinsville improved to 5-1 with a pair of impressive wins at the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic. The Tigers hammered St. Mary (4-3) 102-78 and beat LaVergne, Tennessee (9-2) 80-62. Hopkinsville plays in the King of the Bluegrass this week.

Welcome to the Club – Hopkinsville senior Jordan Majors scored his 1,000th career point in the win over St. Mary.

Coming Home – Chris Chambers helped Christian County to the Sweet 16 in the early 1990s. Over the weekend, he brought his LaVergne, Tennessee squad back to Christian County and beat the Colonels 79-76.

Hanging Around – Henderson County lost several top scorers and their head coach, but Tyler Smithhart has the Colonels off to a 7-1 start, with the lone loss to Hopkinsville. Henderson owns impressive out-of-region wins over John Hardin (4-1), Bryan Station (3-3), and Muhlenberg County.

Not Falcon Around – Fort Campbell is off to a 4-3 start under first year-head coach RaShaune Echols. While that doesn’t knock your socks off, the Falcons are not known for fast starts. In fact, the last time they were over .500 after seven games was five seasons ago (2007). Senior Kyle Bryant leads the Falcons at 14.4 points a game, while fellow senior Trevon Thompson had 30 points and 18 rebounds in their win over Trigg County last week.

Best Winless Team in the State – That title has to be owned by University Heights. The Blazers are 0-6, with three-point losses to Fourth Region contenders Russellville and Bowling Green, and two losses to unbeaten and defending Third Region champion Apollo. UHA also plays nine of their first 10 games away from home.

Doing it with ‘D’ – Union County has always been known as one of the best defensive teams in the region, and the Braves aren’t doing anything this year to dispute that. The Braves have held five of their seven opponents under 50 points and are giving up just 44 points a game.

Who is Where This Week? – Several teams will be heading across the state to play in Christmas Break tournaments. Here is a rundown of who is where:

Hopkinsville – King of the Bluegrass in Louisville (Wednesday through Saturday)

Henderson County – Ohio County Danny Annis Memorial Classic (Thurs.-Sat.)

Christian County – Mercer County Farmer’s National Bank Fort Harrod Classic (Thurs.-Sat.)

Madisonville – Hosting their own Hancock Bank Classic with Owensboro (4-3), Lone Oak (3-4), and Ballard Memorial (1-5) (Thurs.-Sat.).

Trigg County – Hosting their own KME Classic with Murray (4-3), Graves County (5-2), Warren East (5-1), and Stewart County, Tennessee (1-6). (Thurs.-Sat.)

Caldwell County, Crittenden County and Fort Campbell – They all play in the annual Paducah Tilghman Christmas Tournament with Fort Campbell and Crittenden County meeting in the first round (Thurs.-Sat.)

Webster County – Bardstown Bethlehem David Floyd Holiday Classic (Thurs.-Sat.)

Dawson Springs – Christian Fellowship Trees N Trends Christmas Tournament (Thurs.-Sat.)

Great stuff Scribe!

Loved all your info about Fort Campbell. Things most of us don't know. Great job Scribe!!!!

Very good report. Hopkinsville is at the top. Henderson and Christian are also the top 2 contenders. Would have to put Union County higher though and move Webster down. After that I'm not for sure if there is that much difference between the rest.

And it is nice to see Fort Campbell has gotten things turned around some. Also, Webster County is hosting a holiday tournament in Dixon.
