Probbly shouldn't be ranked at all IMO.

This team may not be as good as recent teams, but out of the eight 11th region championships Lex Cath has won since 1991(Haney left in 2002), three have been in the last 5 years. Who knows what the next 5-10 years holds, but to say they have been on the decline in the last few years is a bit of a stretch. You aren't going to be on top every year. They were one of the top 4 teams in the 11th region last year. They miss a few seniors from last year more than some may realize.

Three in the last five years, and each of those teams went out a round earlier than the previous once they were at state. A loss in the first round of the region to Woodford last year, a loss in district to Lafayette two years before that. Lex Cath is only less dominant when compared to old Lex Cath or Scott County, but I think this loss and a two point win over LCA is a bit of a decline compared to what they once had. This isn't even mentioning most putting Lex Cath behind Scott County and Madison Central this year (and arguably Henry Clay), or a Lafayette, Tates Creek, or Dunbar who could beat them on a given night.

 

As for missing their seniors from last year's teams, I'm sure Woodford was expected to miss theirs more. If Lex Cath hasn't fell off, then 5-6 teams in the region just got lots better.

 

Looking at this year's Lex Cath team, I think their post player can do some things, but I don't really see an athlete like Demetrius Green, Vee Sanford, Jaylen Beckham, etc. that really made them a force once they were paired with kids who'd grown up and played their system (and played their system quite well). Not meant to be a knock, just an observation. Some of those Lex Cath teams were nationally ranked, so they had some room to fall and still be considered good.
