This was a game of 2 halves. GRC led at the half 44 to 37. GRC out rebounded the Tomcats first half 22-11. GRC also had 15 assists in the first half. Second half, Ashland came out on a mission. Dixion stole the ball twice and finished with two great dunks. End of 3rd Q score was 63-59 Ashland.

 

Logan did not play for Ashland. He was in a boot, injury from football. Congrats to this young man, he signed to play baseball for UK. yesterday. Very nice young man.

Yes it was, but I also was just as impressed with GRC the first half. No way with the size Ashland has and how short GRC is that we should have out rebounded them first half and by that much. Coach Biggs, made the adjustment at half to correct this.

Ashland Blazer kept George Rogers Clark winless, while the Lady Cardinals picked up their first victory of the season Friday night.

 

At Norton Gymnasium, the Cardinals led 44-37 at the break but the Tomcats opened the second half with an 18-3 run, turning a nine-point deficit into a 55-49 advantage with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

 

Clark (0-4) pulled to within two on a Malik Warner three-pointer at the 1:47 mark of the quarter, but Ashland scored seven in a row to open the fourth quarter and led by double figures the rest of the way to give Ashland coach Buddy Biggs just his second career win over the Cardinals.

 

Tomcats center Dikembe Dixson scored 12 of the Tomcats’ 26 points in the third quarter and had a pair of dunks to spark his squad. Dixson finished with a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

 

“Their length bothered us,” Humphrey said. “His length bothered us at the top and once we turned it over once or twice, we became tentative. When they’re running and jumping like that and creating havoc on the defensive end and if you get back on your heels, that’s what is going to happen and you have to attack that. We did not do a good job at all of attacking that pressure. We’ll look at film and try to get better.”

 

Clark got a big performance from Khamarkis Blanton, who scored 23 points. He scored eight of Clark’s first 10 points and finished with 14 points in the first half. He completed a double-double performance with 11 rebounds.

1st time Coach Humphrey has ever lost a game to Ashland.

Actually Coach Biggs has 4 wins over the Cardinals. Just second ever at Letcher Norton Gymnasium. Tough place to play. GRC will be fine. Coach Humphrey has a young team and is doing a great job with them. He is playing a very difficult schedule which will have them ready for another post-season run in the tenth.
