Cooper Baseball

Sorry Hellbird........But to say a coach wouldn't feel pressure IMO is silly. Most of the other programs within the school have had success whether it is boys or girls sports. I coached many years within an organization and you can't tell me if all the other teams within the organization are doing well and I wasn’t that pressure wouldn't be felt. I don't buy in to the "5 Year" comment. They have more than enough talent to at least win a district title. I know baseball is a funny game but they need to achieve and not under achieve, as you mentioned in an earlier post.

What I meant is he shouldn't feel pressure because of other teams successes. He should feel pressure if the team underachieves.

That is what I meant.

This year will be a very good test. They are very talented and if they have a season like they did last year then yes he should feel pressure.

In this case, "pressure" is a good thing. When "success" (however defined) is realized, then that raises the expectation bar internally and therefore brings "pressure" on the players and Coaches to perform to the new "standard.".

This Cooper team this year could be very fun to watch. They actually remind me a lot like the Football team this year. They don't have the big name players and aren't getting the recognition before the season like other local schools are getting. They don't have the fogle type of player that can simply crush the ball at will etc. or the big name pitchers like other schools have had in the past like Ryle etc.

They are a team made up of a lot of solid players but no big names. None of their players are being mentioned in the lists made up of the area's best hitters etc. Just like the football team, they are just a bunch of solid players that have the ability to play as a team and make things happen.

They have their entire infield returning this year, and their 2nd baseman last year I would rank as one of the best if not the best defensive infielder in the entire area. Very solid 1st baseman who looks like may be signing a letter of intent early 2013. They have a SS that can play 3rd and vice versa without missing a beat. The only new starter on the infield will be their catcher who is only a JR and has been playing with Varsity since his freshman year splitting time with JV and Varsity that freshman year winning most outstanding player on the JV team that year. Their pitching can be as good as any team in the area from their #1 guy to their #4 guy with solid relief pitching. Their outfield is about as solid as they come and will prodcue the biggest competition of the off season. They have 4-5 outfielders that can start and be very reliable.

The only downside of this team I can find is the limited spots on the team from the Varsity team that played last year, with only losing 1 starting spot to graduation last year it will be quite a battle filling the limited spots from last years JV team. A lot of quality players on that JV team last year and many who could very well play and be succesful at the Varsity level but only a very few spots needed to fill. Its a good problem to have and will be very interesting to watch this team play this year.

Last year a lot of us felt they played below their abilities and it cost them, hopefully this year this team comes out and plays like they are capable of and surprises a lot of outsiders.
