For along time I thought what was the point? We had the tobacco industry in place here for a long time. Tobacco help build many of the small towns and cities, was a only source of income for families, then industry came in swear it was gonna compete in the job market to hiring and boost the local economy.

Now tobacco is regulated by the goverment to only allow a few farmers raise it, or how much they could raise. Factories are closing down shipping jobs overseas. Most of it economy other is just plain stupidity.

And other is just GREED.:taz::taz::taz:

And some of this is right in this area like Maysville. Brownings has been here for ever and has employed several people over the years now it's closing or maybe already is. Technotrim on the AA was a booming business my sister worked there and when they told everyone they were closing up they did at least provided some educational help for jobs. Crystal Tissue didn't stay open for very long. TRW is that still open?

Even the tobacco warehouses have either stopped functioning except for a few, some are storage facility for the city. Some burned down. The old Parker Tobacco Redryer Plant is even gone.

I apologize for not getting your point.

As it says it's my rant. I quess I'm trying to say it must take much of IQ to keep the things around that have worked in the past, now there's nothing.

Any town whose economy was built on tobacco is in trouble. Times change.

Right it started with people blaming tobacco for the health problems, nobody put a gun to their head to smoke that was their choice. By the way I'm a non-smoker for those of you that might wonder.

Last night President Obama said he helped create thousands of new jobs, he must of meant somewhere else, I don't see anything around here. All I see is jobs closing and people are sent home.

Your first statement is correct. You had best evolve or you're in trouble.

The coal mining industry, I SUPPORT it, my brother-in-law works at a factory in Millersburg, they build and make parts and the machines that help dig for coal, coal mines are being eliminated, so if they eliminate more and more mines it's trickle effect on the economy like workers tha are not just laid off at the mines, factories like Stamler-Joy Mining layoff their workers too. No Coal, No jobs for anybody.

I sound like a doomsayer but coal is another industry that may not have a long life.
