Trigg County 38 Caldwell County 37

This is a 4th quarter score with about 5 minutes left. Still under a delay.

According to my sources, which stayed up much later than I, this one is now a final. Several are playing or should I say going to finish their game today. But this one is over. Trigg wins.

Is this a district game? Just curious...

No, they are not in the same class.

No, they are not in the same class.

I guess that's alright then. I'm sure Caldwell Co. folks would like to finish the game out, though.

The Caldwell folks thought the game should have been stopped earlier when they were ahead because of distant lightning -- most likely heat lightning. It was a very muggy night. Trigg overcame two different 16-point deficits in the second half to take the lead. Trigg scored to go ahead 38-37 with 5:32 left and kicked off. Just as Caldwell was going to start the drive, overhead lightning caused the officials to take the teams off the field. After an hour and 15 minute delay, the officials called the game as official. Neither team didnt want to come back Saturday and play. I'm told Caldwell felt the risk of injury after a two hour delay wasnt worth losing kids for the district part of their schedule. Plus, Caldwell already had a few key starters banged up from the game.

They are no longer district opponents but have played each other every year since 1954. Big rivalry game. The last time they played at Caldwell was three years ago and Trigg overcame a 21-point deficit to win that one by a point.
