Basketball season for 2012/2013 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Owsley County ? Remember, please be constructive.

New coach, with the girls coach, Paul Green, moving over to take over the boys program. The Owls have most of their team back from last year, and return all their starters. They return senior forward Iziah Allen, and juniors Bill Hall, Braden Mason, Noah Shelby, and Joey Grove.The Owls finished last season with a 7-19 record, but played a mostly sophomore team and also had a key starter out for about half the season with a knee injury. They should be improved this year.

Owsley Co. will finish last in their respective district and be very lucky to win 10 games......

I forgot to mention Adam Holmes was a part time starter last year and Cody Hall also saw varsity play. Both of them will be juniors this year.

 

nikeman49, you may be right but I believe Owsley County will be better than 10 wins. They will not be an easy game for any of the district teams, imo. The 56th district is not exactly the powerhouse district of the region.

What happened to last years coach? Was that his first year there?

Will Jones coached last year. It was his first head coaching job. I'm not sure why he wasn't hired back. I know they had some budget cuts which might have led to some people not being rehired. His replacement was a person already working in the district, girls coach Paul Green. And the former boys coach, Charlie Davidson, took over the girls program. He was already working in the district as well. So they didn't have to hire new staff to replace the coaching positions.

That would be my best guess. I retired from teaching and AD in 2005, so I'm not in the loop anymore on decisions that are made in athletics or school staff.
