Newport Central Catholic 5 Ryle 3

Featured Replies

Another nice relief outing by Ryle pitcher Justin Hoard, who likely looks to be the ace of their staff next season.

Pretty certain his recap of the 5th inning is not entirely correct. There were two errors in that inning. The second one allowed two runs to score, if I'm not mistaken.

Was that the inning when 5 had the E's or without keeping book did I get my innings and games mixed up?

If he makes a clean throw without having to move or hesitate it's not going to be called unless that new throwing motion was underhanded or Dan Quisenberry style to get around the batter. If it's one clean motion it's not getting called from what I gather.

Maybe so. Just seemed kind of odd, knowing that the batter was clearly standing out over the plate, even though he did make an attempt to duck down. Rule doesn't require his actions to be intentional though.

Also, to be clear, this play had no impact on the outcome of the game.

You are correct - bottom of 4th inning. I was mistaken in my earlier post when I referred to the 5th inning.

It almost had an impact on Pat's ability to watch the rest of the game from the dugout.:D

I like Justin a lot, but I think Josh Bellew (6' 4" + throws smoke) will be a nice surprise for Ryle next year a long with a couple of others from the JV farm . Ryle will definately miss this years pitching staff, but boy I really like what I see in the future.

I heard a rumor that things got pretty chippy amongst the fans, as some took umbrage to the things being yelled at the players. Anyone care to elaborate?

Are you saying the Bellew kid is better than Hoard? If so, why wasn't he up with the big boys this year? Just wondering!

The varsity team was carrying 23 players this year and it was probably better for Bellew and the others to get playing time in JV and hone their skills for next year. It is better to playing anywhere instead of sitting on the bench.JMHO
