RonnieThePopular Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I just joined the forum today and have posted a couple of times about the Lee County Bobcats. Now, normaly, I am not particularly a Lee County fan normaly but I saw these kids play at Estill County and saw them play at the Country Music tournament and a couple of other times and they made a fan out of me. They play through droughts and play tough all game. They showed class by applauding Johnson Central's team as they accepted their trophy. They have a deep bench with Taulbee (sorry I can't remember the first name) as IMO, one of the best ball handlers and penetrators in the region, and who dosen't miss free throws. Johnson and Witherspoon coming in to help tons defensivley. Tyler Rich is drawing so much defense that he frees up the rest of the team and I think that goes unnoticed a lot. Ken Brandenburg is a very solid guard and the two twins (im not going to try the name ) can plain shoot. And the other guard...number 3, sorry im drawing a blank on the name here, is showing MAJOR potential and has a nice shooting touch. Coach Wright is doing a fine job this year and is as fun to watch as the game sometimes. The reason i post this is that these kids are from a small school and don't get much recognition. Its nice to be able to tell them that a lot of us notice the great job you're doing this year and keep up the good work. You have converted one fan that I know of already. I may just have to start driving to Beattyville to watch 0all the Lee County games!
Augger Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Lee County has one of the top teams in the 14th region this year. (As they did last year but things just didnt click) The combination of the Brandenburg, Rich and the Liesgang brothers is a threat in any region. Lee County has a perfect inside out combination and these kids play hard. I really think that this could be the year for Lee County to make some noise in the All A and in the regionals.
KIDS FAN Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I am not from Lee Co. but am a Bobcat fan simply because I am amazed how the coaches in baseball and basketball get so much and are so successful with such a small student body. I have often wondered how great a Coach Combs and Coach Wright would be if they had 800 to 1000 kids to draw from. Great year and great talent this year at Lee Co. Look for them to compete for a trip to Applebees and Rupp.

2 Hand Set Shot Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 No disrespect to the Lee Co Bobcats and Coach Wright (who has done a wonderful job) but the 14th region from top to bottom is probably one of the weakest regions in the state. Lee Co has an excellant chance in the All A and I think they have a shot in the 14th Region Tournament.
mountainwarrior Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I dont think the 14th is as weak as every one says it is yes there are some lower level teams but every region has that but what the 14th is that alot of the other regions arent is that its competitive year in and year out with as many as 6 to 8 teams fighting for the trip to rupp

We know that there isnt a 14th team that has a chance in state but it doesn't mean the kids don't give all they have because all of them would give anything to take the floor at Rupp arena
