Owensboro Catholic 60 Apollo 40

Featured Replies

Catholic had a 6 point lead at the end of 1 and never looked back. This was about the best I have seen the Aces play as a team. Apollo had no answer for Jay Ivey who ended up with about 20 points and 5 blocks. He looked much improved since the start of the season when these teams first met. If he can consistently play at this level Catholic will be a threat come post season. To me though he has always been a little inconsistent, and sometimes plays soft for his size. He was anything but tonight.

Not to take anything away from Catholic but I don't think that most games they would be 20 pts. better than Apollo. Apollo was really flat and Catholic hit over 58% from the floor. Not much Apollo could do to slow them down as they hit many contested shots. These two teams will most likely get to play a rubber match in District and maybe even meet in Region.

Apollo was lead by Tyler Brown, who had a very quite 15.

Apollo might be worn out from the five-game grind at Paintsville, but Catholic played well at the 5/3.

The Ivey kid is the real deal, but surprised that they beat Apollo by 20. The best way to beat them (IMO) is to get a lead on them, so they can't take the air out of the ball and are forced to keep the starting five on the floor. Of course that is easier said than done....You are correct watch out for O-Cath in the post season..

OCath is very strong this year. Solid win over Apollo after handing a good CCH team its first Kentucky loss of the year. They are showing they are a team to be reckoned with.

A great job on the defensive side of the ball by Wayne and Andrew Howard. They really played Brown tough. I believe most of the points by Brown was at the f.t. line. Owsley had a quite night which is rare and O'Nan and Woodward really contributed. Apollo looked flat and really had no answer for Ivey. A complete team effort by the Aces

Catholic should make a deep run in the all "A" and should probably be considered one of the favorites to win it all.

Does anyone know if any of the people that actually "play" varsity will be back next year. I know that Owsley, Ivey, A. Howard, and Woodward are seniors. But what about Johnson, W. Howard and Onan. Are any of these players seniors? Either way next year should be a major rebuilding year for them.

Not surprised! Apollo has some good players, but I watched them in the Tiger Hoops Classic Championship game against Paintsville and they played terrible. If not for Paintsville playing about as bad, they would have probably beat them by 20 also. OC has more talent, but Apollo should be playing better than they are right now!

Per the program from the 5/3 Fifth Third Bank CLassic: It shows that all the members are Seniors  , but one parent when I told him that I had never seen a team with seniors only on it, told me that it was a type-o. He told me two kids were not seniors but neither gets much PT..... Talk about next year from the Penthouse to the Dog house! ;)
