Belfry has some injury issues, not what you want against a team as big and talented as Huntington. The Highlanders are anchored by the #2 overall player in the Country who dominates both sides of the ball and have a few more guys who I would expect to be seeing on Saturdays once they graduate. Last year Belfry had a nice lead but Huntington came from behind to win. I would lean with HHS by 2 TD's The comparison I would use for HHS...

    1. Johnson Central (4A, 0-0)- The Eagles jump into action with a Pre-Season Top 5 team from West Virginia when they welcome the athletic Capital Cougars squad. All reports are that RB Joe Jackson is back and better than ever after he turned heads in a scrimmage against Beechwood. 2. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 1-0)- Corbin was not necessarily in mid-season form against Whitley County, but they also left no doubt they are for real once more. Corbin...

They have excellent facilities... especially for a 1A school. Pikeville I think was the first school in Kentucky to get artificial turf if I am not mistaken. They have a very nice gym, weight room, etc. Though their baseball stadium has been around for a while, it was one of the nicest facilities in the State as well. This one is a bit above and beyond as it may be the nicest locker room in the State. One of the other Pikeville fans...

Big Time Recruits Dominate Small Class Football Landscape It is not uncommon for Class 2A to have some of the best players in the Bluegrass State, but 2018 seems to be a special year as four different players have spent their summer collecting offers and taking visits to many high-profile Division 1 schools. Newport Central Catholic RB/LB Kyle Kelly exploded with offers to basically a “Who’s Who” of MAC schools. Kelly recently committed to...

Nice intel! Not saying you are wrong or even that I disagree with anything you said, but just playing Devil's Advocate, Tilghman's reputation in recent years leans more towards being a disappointment rather than getting it together and taking a step forward. They always have the talent, but have not proven that they could put it together consistently. Whether it was issues with on field discipline, line play, or an Offense that couldn't...

Me too, but at the same time I can't fault kids or parents who choose to make a decision they feel is best for getting their kids in a better situation for their future. Wandale's talent was big enough that he got noticed by the big schools. For other kids, they may have D-1 talent but are in situations where D-1 exposure is not likely. If they or their parents feel getting them to a place where they can better be noticed helps secure a...

Tusi can correct me, but just think it is one of those great relationships that has worked over time and will continue to. Dixon has a lot of respect for Haywood and vice versa. I know when one of the Hazard coaches had cancer the Belfry staff really wanted to be involved to do something. It really is a cool relationship to see.

I predict a lot of players get to play and a lot of plays get ran that would be after thoughts in the regular season HAHA Really good opportunity for Hazard to take on a team with a huge size advantage up front and team speed unlike what they will have to see in most of Class 1A. Really good opportunity for a Belfry secondary that is VERY green and struggling early on to get tested against a stout QB and passing game. The Belfry and...

They will be anywhere between 2nd and 5th in the largest classification in WV. Huntington is the team that beat Belfry to open last year and who Belfry will also open with this year. They were undefeated in the regular season last year and ranked #1 before losing a close game in the Semi's in an upset to Spring Valley. Huntington lost their top Offensive player RB jadon Hayes (he won the W equivalent of Mr. Football if I am not...

Right now the gap between Beechwood and the field is wide With that said, every game Pikeville plays they will improve just like last year. Will Pikeville be able to catch Beechwood this year? That remains to be seen... but the investment and risk that Macnamee took last year to play underclassmen, particularly Sophomores, should pay dividends in the long run if they stay healthy. If I recall there was a similar thought process a...

Belfry traveled to Richlands, Virginia to scrimmage the host school and Abingdon,VA Report I received is Belfry looked pretty good on Offense Belfry scored three times against Richlands and three times against Abingdon. Belfry’s pass defense left a lot to be desired as expected and Richlands scored in three passes. Abingdon had one score against reserves passing. Belfry was without Grayson Cook and Austin Lawson and the QB Browning...

GETTING SOME WORK IN | Local Sports | thetimestribune.com Also the Corbin paper and Haddix called it a scrimmage Corbin coach Justin Haddix said he liked what he saw out of his team during its first preseason scrimmage against Class 2A's Somerset Briar Jumpers, but he also saw some things his team needs to work on as well. "It was our first scrimmage, so I knew we would have some things we'd do good on combined with some things we will...

So Somerset has scrimmaged Corbin and then did a 3-way scrimmage last night vs. Garrard and Casey County correct? Is their schedule on KHSAA correct? It shows Somerset playing Week 0 vs. Lincoln County and then taking the last week of the regular season for a BYE after a 10-game schedule. Something is not adding up here if so... Isn't the rule that if you play Week 0 and take a BYE you can only do one scrimmage? Not trying to snitch...

Big picture you are right Small picture an argument can be made Danville vs. Corbin in 2015 is an example I will always remember to the value of a Center. Danville wins that game 20-0. The story was Corbin's Center. The Redhounds had I believe six bad snaps from the Center. Four resulted in long drive killing losses. The other two resulted in turnovers that led to Danville points. To your statment Corbin's QB was a very good player in...

Bath is right on the cusp of cracking as well. Thye need to prove they can beat Russell and Fleming first, but love what Poynter is doing with them. Thye have a chance to make a statement against Powell County ( a 25-30 team in EKY) and Western Hills. If they can beat both of those teams it will be hard to keep them out.

They were just outside. They have a great core returning but Greenup has had a bad tendency of fading the past few years. They may be able to take Russell's spot early this season.

Thornton is a great player and this is a very good point about VanCleave coming off the radar to win the award. With that said, will be interesting to see if he can repeat his numbers with his new cast of characters this season. Having the guys he had last season made it easy for a bubble screen to turn into a 65 yard TD pass. If I had to guess, I would say Thornton's completion percentage and TD passes slip, and his rushing yards and...
