  1. I agree. It's unfortunate for Walton and the good caliber of players they've had over the last several years!
  2. Even with Sorrell's wickedly arched 3 point shot, I think WV will give them a run for their money next year - especially with J Ponzer, Sullivan and defensive efforts from White.
  3. You are right in that people react differently, just as people see things differently. Not sure where you were sitting, but I was next to the bench. I witnessed what happened, heard his comments and understand exactly why Ponzer was pulled out (besides the fact he was forcing the unnecessary/impossible shot). From the games I've personally attended and for the videos I have watched of the ones I couldn't attend, this isn't the first time his attitude has reflected poorly on undeserving teammates. WV has won games before without much play time from Ponzer. He is talented but by no means is he a leader of that team and unfortunately at times he allows his talent to be overshadowed by his unselfish play. He's had a few top scoring games, but more times than not his top scoring games have been losses. Scoring is just one of the fundamentals of the game. From an outsider who strictly watches the game and has no ties to the last names, I'm surprised at the apparent lack of support for Jones who IMO is WV's best all-around player (as evident in last night's game as well as years prior). A last name is just that and that only.
  4. Congratulations to SK. Good all around team effort. They won however they did not dominate this game. IMO WV's play especially during the first half was more impressive than SK's entire game. SK's Maegley and Barnes stepped up in the second half against WV's disappointing 3rd quarter of only 4 points. MVP Dressman played well, but the effort from WV's Jones who IMO dominated the game from both sides was probably more deserving of the MVP had WV won. Mostly contributing to WV's loss were the lackluster effort from Kirk and the unsportsmanship conduct displayed by P Ponzer toward his teammates and his coach during the end of the game. I witnessed firsthand from direct by his bench both his comments and his actions. Its unfortunate for the program when parents/coaches allow and at times even reward this kind of behavior. IMO Sullivan or Hopperton were more deserving of the all-tournament award than Ponzer.
  5. *Jeanie*, you couldn't have said it any better. WV played a very impressive passing game tonight - and it got 'em a win! Hope they keep it going for Friday night. Congrats WV! Trimble played hard and definitely proved they are a better team than what was expected!
  6. Kirt can be somewhat theatrical when drawing the charge fouls, as well as Martin when he's all over the place, or Hoppertin when he takes his frustration out on the seatcushion, but I think the Oscar winner for most theatrical would go to Ponzer. Pretty evident from most the games, and by the number of technicals. And from watching Jones the past 3 years, the kid hardly shows any emotion and is way too quiet. I agree the coach has some spoiled kids, but IMO, the only starter that appears spoiled is the one that as you put it needs to get his head on. Hopefully it's on for Wed night's game. Good Luck WV!
  7. Holy Cross by 11. (And I admire Madman's hope for the underdog!)
  8. Penny from Anderson Co. Maegley from SK (Slavey honorable mention) C Thompson from Grant Co. (one to watch - I believe he is a Jr this year - will be fun to watch next year!) Jones from Walton Verona (I agree with *Jeanie* - Jones can shoot. Plus he is a more consistent, team player. Ponzer could be a good player, but does not play smart/plays too selfishly IMO) Brown from Gallatin (Henson/Maddox honorable mention. Maddox is good, but not the best player IMO.)
  9. Yes, Ouch. Their loss to Lloyd was much like their loses to Owen and Trimble. I caught their game against Lloyd last night and could see why elder Ponzer was on the bench, but honestly don’t understand why Jones was (or several of the other starters) especially during the last 5mins of the game. The game ran close the entire time, so it was too early and too close to have given up IMO.
  10. The Jugs played hard - Tyler and both Craddocks had a good game. A disappointing loss for WV. IMO, Walton Verona allowed the 1man show to run way too long. And then with 5mins left to play and only down by 8 why give up and sit out all 5 starters when only 1 or 2 aren't doing the job. I hope WV can pull it together before Wed's All "A" game, cause this fan has not given up on WV's seniors.
  11. Good win for WV! Wish I could have caught the game. The Courier lists the following: P PONZER 14pts (1 3pointer) J JONES 13pts (3 3pointers) J PONZER 11pts (1 3Pointer) S KIRK 8pts Congrats WV!
  12. If you haven't already seen them, the Courier listed the following: JONES 22pts KIRK 7pts PONZER 9pts I thought Jones had many points, but didn't hear any announced at the end of the game. Wonder why Genie hasn't posted any stats??
