  1. Nothing has changed at the top of this week’s Central Kentucky Power Rankings as the top 5 teams all won convincingly to make things at the top easy to figure out. The bottom 5 teams is where the water gets murky and it is becoming increasingly difficult trying to figure out how they all stack up. Needless to say there have been some insane individual performances to start the season and last week had a couple of eye opening performances from some of the studs of Central Kentucky. Let’s jump in and take a look and see what happened in Central Kentucky last week. Top Ten: 1. Scott County- Scott County used 601 yards rushing to defeat Lafayette 58-28. After trailing 28-27 early in the second half, the Cardinals scored 31 unanswered points to put the game on ice. Bronson Brown finished with 239 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns and Austin Burnett had 216 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. Scott County travels to Fort Thomas to take on the Highlands Bluebirds on Friday, August 31. 2. Frederick Douglass- Frederick Douglass decimated Tates Creek last Friday night by the score of 48-14. Cameron Jones had another highly efficient night as he went 15-17 passing for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns, all 4 touchdowns to different receivers. Demarco Fishback caught one of the receptions for a touchdown and he also added 76 yards rushing and 3 rushing touchdowns. Next up for Frederick Douglass is a game on Friday evening with one of the top teams in 1A, the Paintsville Tigers. 3. Boyle County- Boyle County out classed Franklin County from start to finish as they won 50-7. The defense helped set up the offense on multiple occasions and the offense was efficient throughout the game. Reed Lanter went 12-14 for 236 yards and a touchdown. Reese Smith had 122 yards receiving and a touchdown on 4 receptions. Landen Bartleson and Andrew Sacco both ran for two touchdowns apiece as the Rebels are rolling along. Next up for the Rebels is the TitleTown Showdown at home against the Danville Admirals on Friday night. 4. Lexington Catholic-Don’t look now but the Lexington Catholic Knights are quietly putting up some large numbers through the air. Coming into the season it was known that Beau Allen had a stable of receivers coming back this season and that chemistry is easy to see early in the season. In the Knights 50-34 win over Ryle, Beau Allen completed 23-31 passes for 357 yards and 7 touchdowns. It is safe to say that the Knights’ aerial assault isn’t to be slighted and everyone should keep an eye on their progress. 5. Madison Central- Madison Central had an easy victory over Woodford County last week as they won 38-6. Madison Central has given up a total of 13 points so far this season which is tied for second best amongst all 6A teams at the moment. Their first true test will come against a Southwestern team that is off to a hot start of their own. Madison Central will play Southwestern this Friday evening at Madison Southern. 6. Anderson County- Anderson County enjoyed a huge 34-19 win over Meade County this past Friday but in doing so have reportedly lost the services of one of their best players in Zach Labhart. Luckily Zach is a junior so hopefully he will be back healthy for his senior season. In the meanwhile Anderson County will need to go to The Next Man Up as they work to build on their early season success. The next team up for Anderson County is Mercer County at Mercer County this Friday night. 7. Henry Clay- Henry Clay didn’t score a single point last Friday as they were shutout 41-0 by the #1 team in 5A, Covington Catholic. They only dropped one spot this week because of the strength of their opponent as well as the uncertainty in the bottom half of the top ten. However, they won’t get many passes going forward the rest of the season. If they plan to become a force in the CKY area then they need to forget last week and focus on improving. Next up for Henry Clay is another power from a different classification, at 4A power Johnson Central on Friday evening. 8. Lafayette- Lafayette joins the top ten for the first time this season and it comes after a 58-28 loss to Scott County. At one point Lafayette was ahead 28-27 and for almost three quarters they went toe-to-toe against one of the best teams in the state. With that showing they deserve a chance to crack the power rankings so we can see what Lafayette can do. Good luck to the Generals as they face Lexington Catholic at home this Friday night. 9. Danville- The Danville Admirals lost 28-10 at Corbin last week and truthfully they gave a better showing than I expected. A couple of weeks ago after the Admirals scrimmaged Southwestern they were written off by many people. A shaky start against Woodford County didn’t help matters but the second half of that game began the turnaround. Their game last week against Corbin was a promising sign for some Admiral fans as many felt they held their own and had a couple of plays gone the other way it may have been a different game. The Admirals will have another chance to prove they are improving rapidly as they will face Boyle County in the TitleTown Showdown at Boyle County on Friday night. 10. Franklin County- Franklin County took a thumping at the hands of Boyle County last Saturday evening. That is now in the past and it is time to move on. There is a lot of season left and Franklin County has a favorable schedule that should allow them to see success as long as they improve weekly. I expect them to remain in the Power Rankings all season but for now we’ll see what happens each week and go from there. Next up for Franklin County is a good bounce back game against Woodford County on Friday night. Team on the Rise: Bourbon County: Bourbon County is now 2-0 on the season. Under Head Coach John Hodge, Bourbon County has put together some strong teams with talent that have had postseason success. Once again Bourbon County is off to a good start to the season with a strong chance to join the top ten of the CKY Power Rankings. Last week’s Game of the Week results: Pikeville 50 Lexington Christian 7 Pikeville took Lexington Christian to the woodshed last weekend as I totally missed on what I thought would be a good and exciting game. They literally did whatever they wanted to on the field last week and if they were a CKY school they would have some players mentioned in the Top Performers section of this article. Lexington Christian had just cracked the top ten of the Power Rankings last week so I hated to see them leave so soon but we all know that Lexington Christian will have opportunities coming up to show that Pikeville is a strong team despite them being a 1A school. I expect to see Lexington Christian bounce back soon from this disappointment. Game of the Week-8/31/18 Scott County at Highlands: This game will tell us a couple of things. Is Scott County as good as we think? Is Highlands back? The Highlands faithful feels like this year’s team marks the turnaround to return to the expected winning ways of Highlands football. Scott County destroyed Highlands last year but this year the game is at Highlands and there is a new attitude in Fort Thomas. I’ll be watching the results of this one closely. Wandale Robinson Watch: I’m creating a new section for the weekly article called the Wandale Robinson Watch. He is the Mr. Football front runner and if we are being honest he’d be an easy choice for a Top Performer every week. Instead of having him take a spot we all know he’ll deserve weekly I’m just going to give him his own section and we can watch his stats weekly and yearly. Last week vs Estill County: 7 rushes, 108 yards, 2 touchdowns 3 receptions, 121 yards, 2 touchdowns 63 yard punt return TD 1 interception 11 total tackles(8 solo) Yearly stats to date: 34 rushes, 323 yards, 4 touchdowns 4 receptions, 196 yards, 3 touchdowns 1 punt return touchdown 8 total touchdowns 16 total tackles(9 solo) 1 interception Player of the Week: Beau Allen- Lexington Catholic- 23-31, 357 yards, 7 touchdowns Top Performers: Cameron Jones-Frederick Douglass-QB-15-17-242 yards, 4 touchdowns Bronson Brown-Scott County-RB-239 yards rushing, 2 rushing touchdowns Austin Burnett-Scott County-RB-216 yards, 6 rushing touchdowns CaMarr Myers-Bourbon County-RB-230 yards, 3 touchdowns
