  1. BluegrassPreps.com is giving you a chance to show off your football knowledge statewide! The BluegrassPreps Regional Contests give you chances to pick games in different parts of the state for prizes each week of the regular season. There will be five regional contests every week. You will have a chance to pick the winners in each region -- NKY, EKY, Lexington/Central KY, Louisville, and WKY. Each region will have five games to pick from each week. We pick the games, and you will pick the winner of each game, assigning your picks a point value of 7-5-3-2-1. The first tiebreaker is picking the team (of the ten teams in the contest) that scores the most points. You don't have to pick the highest scoring team, you just have to pick a team that scores more points than the team(s) picked by the member(s) you are tied with. The second tiebreaker is time. This is a season long contest and you can enter in any or all regions that you wish. At the end of the regular season, the top two finishers in each region will compete during the playoffs for statewide bragging rights on Bluegrasspreps. If a contestant qualifies in more than one region, then the highest point total statewide from a non-qualifying contestant will advance as a Wild Card. The best part is, if you win a weekly contest, you will receive a quality prize. The deadline for all entries is 5:00pm EST Friday. (August 17th, 2018) Be sure to post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win. (Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided.) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. The games this week for the Louisville Area Regional contest are: Manual vs Central Bardstown vs Spencer County Henry County vs Oldham County Christian Academy-Louisville vs South Oldham Green County vs Washington County Be sure to pick ONE winner for each game and to indicate the point value. Remember, all entries must be posted by 5:00pm EST on Friday, August 17th. Good Luck!
  2. Bluegrasspreps.com is excited to provide Regional Power Rankings for the entire state by breaking the state into five regions: Eastern Kentucky, Central Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Western Kentucky and the Louisville Area. The Power Rankings will overview which teams are at the top in their region, regardless of class. The weight of wins and loses are subjective to the quality of the opponents and the team's performance. This means all wins or losses will not be seen as equal. In addition to the Top 10 in each region, the Power Rankings will include: two Big Risers of the week that are moving up but have not yet made it into the Top 10, two Big Droppers of the week that have dropped further away from the Top 10, the Game of the Week that you won't want to miss reading about, and the Player of the Week for each region. Below is the Pre-Season Edition of the Louisville Area Power Rankings! 1. Trinity (6A State Champions, 15-0) The Shamrocks will be looking for their third consecutive 6A State Championship as they head into the 2018 season. The Rocks graduated QB Nick Bohn and WR Rondale Moore, but do return their two leading rushers from 2017, Luke McGuire and Gereimah Smith. Senior DE and Stanford commit Stephen Herron will anchor the Rocks defense again this season, and look to lead them back to another state title. 2. St. Xavier (6A Runner Up, 12-3) The Tigers fell to their arch rivals in the 6A Championship in December, but the story around this program is the change at the top of the ladder, with the hiring of former Bowling Green Coach Kevin Wallace. With years of success at BG, Wallace looks to utilize the talent and depth at St. X, and look for a difference in the Tigers’ offense in the coming season. Returning four seniors to a stingy defense from a year ago will make St. X a problem on defense again in 2018. 3. Male (6A Third Round, 9-3) After a disappointing second round exit from the 2017 playoffs, the Bulldogs will look to re-establish their spot in Louisville’s “Big 3.” With senior RB Henry Vestal who rushed for over 1,000 yards a season ago returning, look for Male to use him to open up their passing game. They also return three veteran defenders who accounted for over 200 tackles last season, in Joe Kuerzi, Dallas Douglass and Jack Lucas. 4. Christian Academy - Louisville (2A Semifinals, 11-3) Coming off a hard fought loss to Mayfield in the 2A Semifinals a year ago, The Centurions are once again loaded on the offensive side of the ball, even with the departure of their QB from a year ago, Austin Carr. CAL returns Brandt Babin (Soph., 736 rushing yards), Harrison Zimmerer (Jr., 388 rushing yards), and Milton Wright (Sr., 346 rushing, 685 receiving yards). The Centurions will also be very solid on defense, with Austin Collins, Luke Paulson, and Jake Taylor chasing down ball carriers. If Coach LeFors can find a replacement for Carr, watch out for CAL. 5. DeSales (2A Third Round, 12-1) The Colts were dominant for the majority of the 2017 campaign, but eventually lost to their crosstown rivals, CAL, in the third round of the 2A playoffs. They return senior QB Aaron Pfaadt who did a great job in 2017 distributing the wealth around to his teammates, and the Colts will look to him to lead them again in 2018. 6. Elizabethtown (3A Semifinals, 12-2) The Panthers had an impressive showing in 2017, falling only to CAL, and eventual 3A State Champion, Boyle County. The question for E-town will be how they will replace the offense produced by graduating seniors Jay Becherer, Tyler Durbin and Jey Gregory. If the Panthers can do so, look for them to be a force again in 3A. 7. Central (3A Semifinals, 11-3) With only three losses in 2017, two of which came by two local 6A schools, the Yellow Jackets look to post another impressive run in 2018. Returning offensive leaders Mykah Williams and Ukrari Baker will pave the way for Central this season. 8. Collins (4A Semifinals, 11-3) The Titans fell just one game short of playing for a 4A State Championship in 2017, and will have the task of replacing the dynamic JR Lucas’ 3,700 yards. Leading WR Sicari Toole returns for his senior season, and will look to lead the Titan offense. 9. Central Hardin (6A Semifinals, 10-4) Coming off a deep playoff run in 2017, the Bruins will return senior QB Jacob Hobbs and RB Josh Volentine to a team that lost in the 6A Semifinals to eventual champion, Trinity. Can Central Hardin build off last year and make another run to the title? 10. South Oldham (5A Second Round, 10-2) The Dragons posted an impressive 10-game winning streak during the 2017 season, but fell to eventual 5A State Champion Covington Catholic in the playoffs. They return RB Keaton Martin who will likely be the focus of the Dragon offense in 2018. Game of the Week: Week 1 6A St. Xavier vs. 2A DeSales Both teams coming off disappointing end to their 2017 season will be looking to make a statement early with this incredible Week 1 matchup. The Tigers will travel eight miles to take on the Colts in what will surely be the best game in the region on opening weekend. 4. Here are the results for this week's Louisville Regional contest. As always, the results won't be final for 24 hours. All contestants should use that time to check their score for errors. After that time period has passed, the contest is final and the winner should use the following link to claim the prize of choice. If you think your score is incorrect, please send me a PM and I will look into your claim. Only two perfect scores this week and both picked DeSales (and their miracle victory) as their first tiebreaker therefore the winner was decided by the second tiebreaker, time of post. Congrats to this week's winner: @Fishhead aka fishbowl in last week's contest. 5. 1. 6A Male (3-0) The boys in Purple and Gold posted their third straight dominating performance last week, posting a 50-0 drubbing of 5A Doss. As they look ahead to this week, they face their first real test of 2018, when they visit the Trinity Shamrocks. A win over the Shamrocks would solidify the Bulldogs spot at the top of the Power Rankings, and also validate them as the best team in the state of Kentucky. 2. 6A Trinity (0-3) In a game that was stopped in the third quarter due to weather, Trinity gave up a first half lead and again found themselves on the losing end of a third straight contest, falling to Archbishop Moeller (OH) 21-14. This is the first time since 2003 Trinity has started 0-3. That year, the Rocks lost a fourth game to open the season, and then ran off 11 in a row to win a 4A State Title. Trinity hosts their first in-state and cross town foe in the 6A Male Bulldogs. All eyes will be on Marshall Stadium this Friday as we find out who is the King of the Carpet in Kentucky. 3. 3A Central (3-0) The Yellow Jackets finally gave up points in 2018, but not very many. Central improved to 3-0 on the year defeating 5A Fern Creek 25-6. Quintez Payton led the defensive attack with two interceptions, one which he returned for a touchdown. QB Malik Goodall also put on a show, accounting for 377 total yards and 3 TD's. A frequent target for Goodall, WR Ukrari Baker, had a nice day with 146 yards receiving and a touchdown. Central travels to 6A Ballard this week. 4. 2A DeSales (3-0) After back to back weeks of high drama, hail mary's and 6A opponents, DeSales had a less-eventful contest last week, beating 1A Holy Cross (Louisville) 28-3. The Colts have the week off, before they take on 5A Fern Creek on 9/14. 5. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (3-0) CAL kept rolling in Week 3, dispatching 6A Central Hardin 49-21. Brandt Babin led the way for the Centurions, rushing for 112 yards and two scores. Harrison Zimmerer added another 2 TD's on the ground. CAL travels to 3A Elizabethtown this Friday. 6. 6A Butler (2-1) The Bears bounced back after a disappointing last-minute loss last week to DeSales, dominating 4A Western 46-0. Butler will jump back up in competition this week, travelling across town to 5A Fern Creek. 7. 6A Saint Xavier (0-2) Even with two weeks to prepare, Saint X wasn't able to get their first victory of 2018, falling to Coach Wallace's former team, the 5A Bowling Green fighting Vito Tisdale's, 24-21 in overtime. The Tigers have looked far from comfortable on offense to this point, something that will need to be corrected sooner rather than later. Their opponent this week is 5A Fairdale, where the Tigers should FINALLY get Coach Wallace's 300th career win. 8. 5A Oldham County (2-0) The Colonels return to action this Friday after a BYE week, where they will try to extend their clean defensive slate against 4A Collins. If OC can get the win, it will be the programs best start in more than 20 years. 9. 4A Moore (3-0) Building on their nice start in 2018, Moore took care of 6A Seneca 51-6 last Friday. The Mustang defense racked up four sacks and two fumble recoveries en route to the decisive victory. They will look to extend their winning streak to four this week, as they travel to 6A Jeffersontown. 10. 6A Pleasure Ridge Park (2-1) After being run out of the building last week by 5A power Bowling Green, the Panthers rebounded this week with a 21-14 victory over 6A Eastern. They will travel down I-65 this week to take on 6A North Hardin, in a game both teams will be looking to improve to 3-1. Trending Up: No One - Pretty static this week on this front. Could see some movement in the coming weeks. Trending Down: Saint Xavier - While the Tigers will likely get in the W column this week, their season is still very much up in the air having fallen back to back weeks to opponents in lower classes. Now, DeSales and Bowling Green are certainly no slouches, as they will both contend for titles in their respective classes, but both are games the Tigers likely should have won. Game of the Week: 6A Trinity vs. 6A Male Not only the GOTW in the region, likely the entire state. While there is A LOT of football left to play this season, the winner of this game will rightfully be the heavy favorite to win the 6A title this December. Trinity is win-less, having played a stellar schedule thus far, while Male has dominated all three of their opponents in 2018. All eyes will be on Marshall Stadium this Friday. Last Week's GOTW: 5A Bowling Green 24 6A Saint Xavier 21 (OT) Even through the weather delay, this one lived up to the hype for those in attendance. It was a great atmosphere for high school football! For those that had never seen him play, Vito Tisdale showed everyone just why he is so highly touted and sought after. The kid can play (he was the best player on the field, big surprise right!?), and the fact that he is only a Junior is crazy. Player of the Week - QB Malik Goodall, Central Passing: 11/25, 198 yards 1 TD Rushing: 22 attempts, 179 yards, 2 TD

  10. 1. 6A Male (1-0) The Bulldogs traveled across the river to Floyds Knobs to take on Floyd Central (IN) in their 2018 opener and posted a 41-3 victory. Led by senior QB Garrett Dennis, who was 7/10 for 100 yards and two scores, the Bulldogs dominated FC throughout. On top of Dennis' performance, Male rushed for 305 yards on the evening, and Izayah Cummings added 78 receiving yards and two more scores. Male returns home this week to take on Ballard (0-1). 2. 6A Trinity (0-1) As is often the case, Trinity started their season with an out of state opponent, Carmel (IN), who defeated the Rocks 24-21 on a last-minute scoring drive, ending their 30-game winning streak. While it's been over two full seasons since the Rocks have lost, they have no time to sulk, as another Indiana power comes to Marshall Stadium this week. Ranked #1 in Indiana in some places, Warren Central will look to hand the Rocks their second consecutive loss, something that hasn't happened since 2014 (Male, Moeller). 3. 2A DeSales (1-0) For the first time in 20 seasons, in front of a record crowd, DeSales found themselves in a battle with Saint Xavier, a game that was billed as the Game of the Week in the Louisville area. The game did not disappoint, and the Colts took advantage of the opportunity knocking off the 6A power 19-16 in a thrilling come from behind victory. The Colts' offense struggled for most of the 1st half, but they were able to capitalize on several X turnovers, including a late 1st half interception that lead to a DeSales touchdown as time expired in the half. While the hail mary to end the half will get most of the press, the Colts defense should get the praise, holding St. Xavier to just 76 yards on the ground. Two goal line stands in the 1st half were the difference in this one. DeSales will visit 6A Butler this week. 4. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (1-0) The Centurions started their 2018 campaign with a short trip up I-71, posting a convincing 21-3 win over 5A South Oldham. Potential Mr. Football candidate Milton Wright led the way with 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. CAL will likely be the favorite again this week as they make another short trip to 6A Eastern, where they'll look to improve to 2-0. 5. 3A Central (1-0) It didn't take long for Central to find their footing in 2018, as U'Kari Baker took the opening kickoff in last Friday's game 96 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone for Central's 18-0 win over 6A Manual. He later added a 49 yard touchdown reception, and senior QB Malik Goodall ran 50 yards for a score rounding out the scoring for the Yellow Jackets. Questions about whether or not Central would be able to replace graduating QB Rico White should be answered, for now. The Central defense also started on a high note, pitching a shut out. The Jackets will face Western on Friday. 6. 6A Saint Xavier (0-1) With new Head Coach Kevin Wallace at the helm, and several returning starters from a state runner-up team in 2017, Saint Xavier entered the 2018 season with a lot of excitement. Instead, Week 1 ended with the Tigers falling to 2A DeSales 19-16 in what will be considered a huge upset, the Tigers first loss to DeSales since 1986. Twice in the 1st half, the Tigers managed to march the ball to the DeSales one yard line, only to be denied both times and held to just three points. Add to that several turnovers and missing their starting QB to injury, the Tigers were ripe for the picking. Back up QB Douglas Bodhaine played well in relief, going 19/26 for 253 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Saint Xavier has a BYE this coming week, where they'll look to correct some mistakes and give Keegan Sullivan (QB) time to heal before hosting 5A Bowling Green on August 31st. 7. 6A Butler (1-0) The Bears started 2018 in dominating fashion, dismantling 5A Bullitt East 49-0. Junior QB Chaz Burks pitched a nearly perfect game, going 7/8 for 189 yards and three touchdowns to lead Butler. Eric Jackson added 166 yards on the ground and another three scores for the Butler offense that had their way most of the night, while UK commit Demontae Crumes had two grabs for 74 yards and a score. Equally impressive was the Butler defense, allowing only 86 total yards on the night. Butler hosts 2A DeSales on Friday. 8. 6A Pleasure Ridge Park (1-0) The Panthers make their debut in the Power Rankings after a 37-6 opening week victory over 6A Valley. Navigating a schedule loaded with the best 6A football has to offer, PRP has the opportunity to make some noise and move up the rankings in the coming weeks, while also displaying whether or not they will be a contender in 6A this season. The Panthers travel to 5A Bowling Green this week. 9. 5A Oldham County (1-0) Led by senior RB Lucas Jones' 163 yards and 1 TD, Oldham County started off on the right foot defeating 3A Henry County 37-0. The Colonels' defense also chipped in on the scoring efforts, as senior DB Jacob Ratliff returned an interception 41 yards for a score, helping OC secure the shut out. Oldham County travels to cross-town rival North Oldham on Friday. 10. 4A Moore (1-0) Looking to improve on their 6-5 record from a year ago, Moore opened their season with a decisive 33-7 win over 5A Southern. The Mustangs will jump up in competition in Week 2, hosting 4A Collins. Trending Up: DeSalesWhile the Colts will certainly be one if the top teams in 2A again, not many outside their community would have expected them to take down 6A power Saint Xavier in Week 1. With several more legitimate tests ahead, they will have the opportunity to prove themselves as not only one of the best 2A has to offer, but also the City of Louisville. Butler Just outside the initial Power Rankings, the Bears showed they belonged with their dominating Week 1 victory. Will the Bears build on their opening week victory and make noise in Louisville 6A this season? Trending Down: Saint XavierThe Tigers have an early BYE week, where they'll hope to work out some kinks exposed by DeSales in Week 1, and also give their starting QB time to heal before hosting Bowling Green in two weeks. The Tiger offense was anemic at best, and running game non-existent. They'll need to get these issues corrected ASAP, as their schedule certainly doesn't get any easier. Elizabethtown After a deep run in the playoffs a year ago, the Panthers were unable to start 2018 on a winning note, falling to 4A Franklin-Simpson 44-20 in their opening week tilt. Trayjan Bradley was the lone bright spot for E-town, scoring all three of their touchdowns. On The Outside Looking In Ballard Game of the Week 6A Male vs. 6A Ballard Last Week's Game of the Week: DeSales 19 Saint Xavier 16 We certainly couldn't have asked for a better game to start the 2018 season! In front of an estimated crowd of 5,200, these two Louisville Catholic powers battled until the final whistle until the "underdog" Colts pulled out the victory after a late go-ahead score. The atmosphere was incredible, both teams fought hard, and the fans were treated to what may be one of the best games they see all season. Player of the Week: RB Eric Jackson - Butler 7 carries, 166 yards, 3 TD
  11. (August 24th, 2018) Be sure to post your winners and assign each of them one of the following point values (7-5-3-2-1) based on how strongly you feel that that team will win. (Please note that if your selections are NOT in the specified format, your ENTIRE set of picks will be voided.) 7 5 3 2 1 1st Tiebreaker 2nd Tiebreaker: Time of post. The games this week for the Louisville Area Regional contest are: Fern Creek vs Manual Iroquois vs Jefferstown DeSales vs Butler John Hardin vs North Hardin Trinity vs Warren Central (IN) Be sure to pick ONE winner for each game and to indicate the point value. Remember, all entries must be posted by 5:00pm EST on Friday, August 24th. Good Luck!

  13. 1. 6A Male (2-0) The Bulldogs continued their early season dominance with a 47-0 rout of 6A Ballard. QB Garrett Dennis lead the way going 16/19 for 246 yards and four TD's. Male will likely continue their impressive start as they host 5A Doss this Friday. 2. 6A Trinity (0-2) For the second week in a row, Trinity found itself with a late lead against a tough out-of-state opponent. And for the second week in a row, they found themselves on the losing end of an exciting 42-41 battle with Warren Central (IN). Injuries to three senior contributors, RB Geremiah Smith, RB Luke McGuire, and S Jacob Dingle plagued the Rocks in the 2nd half, and the determination of the Warriors propelled them to victory. The schedule doesn't get any easier for Trinity this week, as they travel to Cincinnati to take on Archbishop Moeller (OH) this Friday. 3. 2A DeSales (2-0) Coming off an emotional opening week victory over 6A Saint Xavier, the Colts looked to continue the magic in Week 2, and they did. Scoring on a hail mary in the closing seconds, DeSales knocked off another Louisville 6A foe, Butler, 35-34. QB Aaron Pfaadt accounted for four of the five Colts touchdowns in the victory. They will make a short trip to Dixie Highway to take on 1A Holy Cross (Louisville) this Friday. 4. 3A Central (2-0) The Yellow Jackets displayed an offensive explosion in a 61-0 beating of 4A Western. Coupled with a dynamic offensive attack, Central's defense posted a shutout for the second week in a row, a trend Coach Dantzler will hope continues. They will travel across town to 5A Fern Creek this week, where they'll begin a stretch of three straight away games. 5. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (2-0) CAL built on their good start to the 2018 season in Week 2 by defeating 6A Eastern 50-7. Junior WR Jake Saathoff was the epitome of efficiency, securing three catches, all three for touchdowns in the lopsided victory. The Centurions will host 6A Central Hardin this Friday, their first home game of the year. 6. 6A Saint Xavier (0-1) An early BYE week may have been just what the Tigers needed, coming off an opening week loss to 2A DeSales. Losing starting their QB just days before the opener, X will hope to have their leader back sooner rather than later. The Tigers' second opponent of 2018 will be a familiar one for first-year head coach Kevin Wallace, as they host 5A Bowling Green this Friday. Will Saint Xavier get their starting QB back, and will Coach Wallace earn his 300th win against his former team? 7. 6A Butler (1-1) After a decisive opening week thrashing of Bullitt East, Butler was the second 6A team in as many weeks to be taken down by 2A DeSales, falling 35-34 on a hail mary in the closing seconds. This probably says more about DeSales than it does Butler, and the Bears will look to get back in the Win column this as they make the short trip to 4A Western on Friday. 8. 5A Oldham County (2-0) The Colonels posted a second straight shutout to start 2018, defeating cross-county rival 4A North Oldham 31-0. The OC defense is to be commended for their start to the 2018 campaign, allowing only 188 total yards in two games. The Colonels are off this week and will return to action on Sept. 7th against 4A Collins. 9. 4A Moore (2-0) The Mustangs picked up their second straight win to start 2018, defeating 4A Collins 38-33. QB Rae Von Vaden led the way with 162 passing yards and three TDs, also adding another 71 yards on the ground. They will travel to 6A Seneca this Friday, looking to continue their win streak. 10. 6A Pleasure Ridge Park (1-1) After comfortably handling Valley in their season opener, PRP took a step back last week, falling 44-7 to 5A Bowling Green. While losing to the Purples in itself isn't cause for concern, the margin may be. The Panthers will look to rebound as they host 6A Eastern on Friday. Trending Up - Central Off to a quick start in 2018, the Yellow Jackets are quickly making their presence felt in Louisville, and will look to continue to do so. In the coming weeks, they'll have to opportunity to really make their mark, with Fern Creek, Ballard, and Saint Xavier looming as the next three opponents on the schedule. Trending Down - Collins After debuting at #8 in the initial Power Rankings, the Titans have had a less than desirable start to the 2018 campaign. With back to back losses, and Ballard coming to town for their first home game, Collins will need to steal a victory against the Bruins to hopefully correct the momentum. Game of the Week 6A Saint Xavier vs. 5A Bowling Green Last Week's Game of the Week - 6A Male 47 6A Ballard 0 To be frank, this game did not live up to the potential, which some would argue is a common theme with recent Ballard teams. Male dominated every facet of the game, and confirmed their spot at the top of the Power Rankings, at least for the time being. Back to back losses, albeit to formidable opponents, have Ballard reeling early in 2018. Player of the Week - QB Aaron Pfaadt, DeSales 10 rushes, 85 yards, 3 TD 8/19, 123 yards, 1 TD
  14. 1. 6A Male (4-0) Despite missing arguably their best player, Henry Vestal, who was unfortunately lost for the year to an knee injury two weeks ago, the Dawgs confirmed their spot on top of the Louisville Power Rankings, defeating 6A Trinity 17-3 Friday night at Marshall Stadium. The Male defense was the highlight of the evening, holding the Rocks to just three points, the lowest point total in Bob Beatty's tenure, and the lowest point total since 1998. Male will travel to 4A Western this week. 2. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (4-0) The Centurions made a quick trip down I-65 to visit 3A Elizabethtown on Friday, and they made their presence felt early and often, defeating the Panthers 48-10. Anthony Sabatino threw for 253 yards, while Brandt Babin rushed for 172 yards and three scores. CAL hosts 2A Newport Central Catholic on Friday. 3. 2A DeSales (3-0) Fresh off their BYE week, DeSales will look to continue their winning ways this week, travelling to 5A Fern Creek. The Colts should be expected to win, as Fern Creek's only win of the year came over 6A Seneca. 4. 6A Trinity (0-4) The Rocks finally faced their first in-state opponent of the year, but faced similar results. The Rocks fell to 6A Male on their home turn 17-3, Trinity's first loss to KY team when those same Male Bulldogs beat them in 2015 on their way to winning a State Championship. Trinity faces one last out of state opponent this Friday, as they host Naperville Central (IL). 5. 6A Butler (3-1) Butler posted another impressive showing, taking down 5A Fern Creek 43-16. Chaz Burks threw for 130 yards and three scores, while Eric Jackson added another 133 yards on the ground. The defense got in on the scoring too, as Greg Jackson returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown. The Bears return home this week to host 5A Doss. 6. 3A Central (3-1) After a flaming hot start to 2018, the Central Yellow Jackets finally hit a road block, falling to 6A Ballard 27-20 last week. Central had an early 14-0 lead, but the Jackets weren't able to hold on for the victory. They will face their second straight 6A opponent this week, as they travel to Saint Xavier. 7. 6A Saint Xavier (1-2) Coach Wallace and the Tigers finally got the proverbial monkey off their back last week, securing their first win of 2018 by demolishing an over-matched Fairdale squad 61-6. The win was Coach Wallace's 300th career win! It was a group effort, as six different Tigers reached the end zone. They will host 3A Central on Friday. 8. 5A Oldham County (3-0) The Colonels went on the road and remained unbeaten last week, defeating 4A Collins 31-14. QB Parker Caudill led the way with 118 passing yards and two scores. Oldham County hosts 6A Seneca this week. 9. 4A Moore (4-0) The Mustangs are off to their best start in at least 20 years (KHSAA scoreboard only goes back to 1998), as they improved to 4-0 after beating 6A Jeffersontown 42-14. This week, they'll make the three hour trek to face 4A Johnson Central. 10. 6A Ballard (2-2) The Bruins got a much needed, impressive victory over a strong 3A Central team this past week. As many have said, Ballard has the athletes to compete with anyone when they are playing well, and their victory over Central showed that. They will look to increase their win streak to three this week, as they face 6A Manual in what should be another good game. Trending Up: Butler The Bears started the 2018 season just outside the Power Rankings, and many questioned why they weren't already in the Top 10. Their play to this point has shown that they do in fact belong, as they have posted an impressive 3-1 record, with their only loss being a 1-point heart breaker to 2A power DeSales. With games against Male, Manual, and PRP all within the next month, we'll find out if Butler can continue their winning ways. Trending Down: Trinity Most people didn't put a whole lot of stock into Trinity's 0-3 start, seeing as their competition was all formidable out of state opponents. Now that the Rocks have fallen to Male, the cries of the naysayers have a little more validity... A little more. Granted, anyone can see that the Rocks are not performing to the level we are used to seeing them, and they have a few key injuries, but they definitely have quite a bit of work to do if they plan on winning their 3rd straight State Championship. Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier vs. 3A Central With Central off to a good start, and Saint Xavier being a bit down, this one could be interesting. The Tigers have dominated the Yellow Jackets each of the last two seasons (51-7 in 2016, 42-7 in 2017), but Central did knock off the Tigers back in 2015. Both teams will be looking for a "marquee win," so we should see a pretty great atmosphere for this one. Will X's dominance extend to a third year, or will Central knock off the Tigers at home? Last Week's GOTW: 6A Male 17 6A Trinity 3 This game certainly lived up to the hype. The atmosphere was incredible at Marshall Stadium. There was a long line to get into the game well into the 2nd Quarter, both student sections were taking turns chanting to each other back and forth, and the weather held off making it a perfect night for some great high school football. As was already touched on, the Male defense was the story in this game. They kept Trinity from getting into any kind of rhythm, were flying to the ball making plays, and generally causing havoc for the Rocks all night. It was the lowest point total for a Trinity team in the Bob Beatty era, a stat that should get all the recognition it deserves. The Bulldogs are, for now, the team to beat in 6A! Player of the Week - QB Douglas Bodhaine, St. Xavier Passing: 11/15 176 yards, 1TD, 1INT Rushing: 5 attempts, 94 yards, 2TD

  16. These are the last rankings of the regular season Power Rankings. Thanks to everyone who's read and/or discussed over the course of the season! We will still have the Power Rankings over the next couple/few weeks, they just may look a little different given we are starting the playoffs this week. Good luck to all the teams in the pursuit of a State Title! 1. 6A Saint Xavier (7-3) After reeling off seven in a row, the Tigers traveled to face a tough out-of-state opponent, and dropped their regular season finale to Cincinnati Saint Xavier 34-7. Luke Spears scored the lone touchdown for the Tigers, as the Bombers held them to 88 total yards. The Tigers will host 6A Ohio County in the first round of the playoffs this Friday. 2. 6A Male (9-1) The Dawgs were off last week, finishing the regular season on a BYE. They will host 6A Meade County in the first round of the playoffs on Friday. 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (10-0) CAL finished their regular season in the same way they started, in winning fashion, disposing of 2A Bullitt East 44-6. OC will host 5A Doss this Friday. 8. 6A Trinity (4-6) The Rocks had the week off last week, and will host 6A Muhlenberg County to open the playoffs this Friday. 9. 4A Moore (9-1) Moore finished their regular season on a five game winning streak, defeating 3A Henry County 28-14 last Friday. Larry Johnson lead the Mustangs in scoring, reaching the end zone twice in eight attempts. They will host 4A West Jessamine in the first round of the playoffs this Friday. 10. 6A North Hardin (8-2) QB Eric Moore had a fantastic night as North Hardin wrapped up their regular season defeating 4A Doss 39-8 last week. Moore threw 13/19 for 183 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Lavell Wright also added 112 rushing yards and a score for the Trojans. This week, they'll host 6A Manual in a first round playoff match up. Game of the Week: 6A North Hardin vs. 6A Manual Unlike most First Round games, this one could actually be pretty decent. North Hardin's losses have come from two teams at the top of their classes, in 2A DeSales (27-24) and 3A Boyle County (21-14). Manual's losses have come from the top of the class in 6A, Male, Saint Xavier and Butler, as well as a loss to 3A Central. Both teams are battle tested which should lead to one of the better 1st Round games in the state. Player of the Week: QB Aaron Pfaadt, DeSales 10/18 passing 182 Yards 2 TD 11 carries 50 yards 2 TD
  17. 1. 6A Saint Xavier (7-2) The Tigers faced a tough Butler squad last Friday, and after a hard fought defensive battle, St. X secured the victory, 14-6, and won the district championship. QB Douglas Bodhaine passed for 128 yards and ran for a score as well. Anthony Moretti added 136 rushing yards and another score on the ground for the Tigers. They will finish their regular season this Friday as they travel to Cincinnati Saint Xavier. 2. 6A Male (9-1) Male rebounded from their loss to St. X last week nicely, dominating their long time rival 6A Manual 48-0 to close out their regular season. QB Garrett Dennis led the way for the Bulldogs, going 9/13 for 164 yards and 3 TD's (Edison, Isom, Warner). Three other bulldogs added touchdowns on the ground for an overall balanced attack. Male is off this week before starting the playoffs next week. 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (9-0) As expected, 2A Washington County was no match for CAL, as the Centurions dispatched the Commanders 49-0 last week. Harrison Zimmerer carried the load, with 17 rushes for 173 yards and 3 TD's. Clayton Masters was 7/10 for 89 yards and two scores. CAL will finish their regular season this week, hosting 2A Bullitt East. 4. 2A DeSales (8-1) Austin Pierce only completed four passes, but three of them went for scores, and DeSales handled 2A Shawnee 41-0 last Friday, in a game where many DeSales reserves saw significant playing time, and played with a running clock from the opening kick. The Colts will wrap up their regular season on Friday, as they host 5A Southern. 5. 6A Butler (7-3) The Bears couldn't get much going offensively, and their hopes for a district championship vanished as they dropped their regular season finale to 6A Saint Xavier 14-6. QB Chaz Burks threw 13/21 for 106 yards, 1TD/2INT. Demontae Crumes added 68 receiving yards and the lone score for Butler. They are off this week and await the start of the playoffs. 6. 5A South Oldham (8-1) The offensive attack of the Dragons was certainly one-sided, as they only attempted two passes for the game on their way to a 50-20 win over 5A North Bullitt. Keaton Marton led the rushing attack, running for 188 yards on 15 attempts for 2 TD's. South travels to 4A Shelby County to close out their regular season. 7. 5A Oldham County (8-1) Another week, and another impressive showing by Lucas Jones, as OC handled 5A Bullitt East 52-0. Jones rushed 147 yards on 14 attempts and three scores. Parker Caudill, Juan Tapia, Sam Young and Jackson Deckard also found their way to the end zone for the Colonels. They will finish their regular season this week traveling to 6A Jeffersontown. 8. 6A Trinity (4-6) Despite an 0-5 start, Trinity was able to bring home another district title, squeaking out a 19-14 victory over 6A Ballard. Carter Martin and Geremiah Smith both rushed for scores for the Rocks, and Sebastian Mata also added two field goals. Trinity is off this week as they prepare for the playoffs. 9. 4A Moore (8-1) For the first time since 1984, the Moore Mustangs have reached eight wins in a season, defeating 4A John Hardin 34-7, claiming the district title. Rae Von Vaden went 10/18 for 130 yards and two scores to lead the Mustangs. Larry Johnson and Dewayne Cameron both rushed for touchdowns in the victory as well. Moore will host 3A Henry County this Friday to close out their regular season. 10. 6A North Hardin (6-3) North racked up 437 total yards of offense on their way to dominating cross town rival Central Hardin 47-7 last week. Six different Trojans found their way to the end zone on the night, including a fumble returned for a touchdown by Lorenzo Lovejoy. NH will travel to 5A Doss to close out their regular season. Trends: Not much change this week, so no real trends. 9/10 teams won this week with no upsets, and the one loss in the group came to the #1 team in the Power Rankings. Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier vs. Cincinnati Saint Xavier No real "big games" this week in the area, so even though this one features an out of state team, it certainly is the most intriguing game scheduled for this week featuring local teams. The Tigers just secured a district championship, while Cincy St. X will need a win to be eligible for the Ohio playoffs. The Tigers will be traveling to Cincinnati, which is sure to be quite the environment considering the magnitude of the game for Cincy X. Will the Tigers rest key players to prepare for a playoff run, or will it be business as usual? Last Week's GOTW: 6A St. Xavier 14 6A Butler 6 As expected, this was a very low scoring affair, as both teams have shown just how stubborn their defenses can be over the course of the year. In the end, St. X proved to be the better team and secured the district title. Player of the Week: RB Lavell Wright, North Hardin 25 carries 196 yards 3 TD
  18. 1. 6A Male (8-0) The Bulldogs traveled to Lexington last week looking to continue their winning ways, and did just that. Male defeated 6A Bryan Station 57-28. At first glance, it would seem as if Station had some success against the stingy Male defense, but the score was 57-8 at the break, and the majority of Station's points were scored on reserves. Male will host 6A Saint Xavier this week to determine the winner of the district. 2. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (7-0) They had to wait seven weeks, but CAL finally got the signature win they'd likely had circled since August, defeating their 2A rival DeSales 21-10 last Friday. Brandt Babin led the charge for the Centurions, rushing for 126 yards on 21 attempts and two scores. CAL will face 2A Shawnee this Friday. 3. 2A DeSales (6-1) After squeaking out a win against 6A North Hardin the previous week, the Colts finally dropped their first game of the 2018 campaign, falling to their rival CAL 21-10 in front of a home crowd last Friday. While it means DeSales won't win the district, it is likely the two will meet again in the playoffs where they the Colts will look for revenge. This week, they take on 2A Washington County. 4. 6A Saint Xavier (5-2) For the second straight week the Tiger defense had an impressive outing, and they have now won five in a row after defeating 6A Manual 25-7. Unfortunately for X, however, they may have once again lost their starting QB Keegan Sullivan to injury. The offense was sub-par at times earlier in the season when he was out, so this will be a concern moving forward. Next up, they travel over to Preston Highway where they will take on 6A top dog Male. 5. 6A Butler (6-2) QB Chaz Burks had a nearly perfect game, throwing 11/14 for 208 yards and 4 TD's as the Bears dominated 6A Pleasure Ridge Park 59-6. Eric Jackson, Jalan Ward, and Malik Brooks all added a rushing touchdown each as Butler had their way with the Panther defense. Butler takes on 6A Eastern this week. 6. 5A South Oldham (6-1) South kept rolling this week, making it six in a row on the year after handling 5A Bullitt East 49-7. The impressive part about this win? The Dragons attempted only five passes, completing just one of those. As a team, South rushed for 486 yards and all seven of their scores. They'll make the trip to Bullitt County for the second straight week as they take on 5A Bullitt Central this week. 7. 5A Oldham County (6-1) The Colonels earned a hard fought road win last week, defeating 5A district foe Bullitt Central 38-33. Parker Caudill, Lucas Jones, Juan Tapia, and Jackson Deckard all scored for OC. This week, they'll face 5A Nelson County. 8. 6A Trinity (2-6) The Rocks bounced back from a loss to their long-time rival in dominating fashion, disposing of 6A Eastern 45-0 last Thursday. We can probably expect a similar result this week, as Trinity will visit 6A Seneca on Friday. 9. 4A Moore (7-1) For the first time in three weeks, the Moore defense gave up points, but it was merely a formality, as the Mustangs dominated 4A Western 42-14 last week. The defense was a big part in this victory, as both Dewayne Cameron and Jamari Wilson had fumble recoveries that they returned for touchdowns. Moore is off this week. 10. 6A North Hardin (5-3) Coming off back to back losses, the Trojans rebounded last week defeating 6A Meade County 24-7. Lavell Wright rushed for 133 yards on 23 attempts and 2 TD's to lead the way for NH. The Trojans are off this week. Trends Up: CAL - We already knew CAL was one of the top teams in 2A, but this week they officially proved it by knocking off DeSales. Down: No one. Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier vs. 6A Male Once again, the GOTW in the City of Louisville will likely be the biggest game in the entire state, as Male and Saint X face off this Friday. The winner will not only win the district, but more importantly get to play at home throughout the playoffs. Both teams are known for their defense, so we could be looking at a low-scoring affair. With X likely being down their starting QB, that will make their task even tougher against the relentless Bulldog defense. Last Week's GOTW: 2A Christian Academy - Louisville 21, 2A DeSales 10 In a game that many had looked forward to all year, CAL took control of the district and bragging rights (for now, at least) handing DeSales their first loss of the year. While this game may change the conversation in 2A temporarily, these two teams will almost certainly meet again in the playoffs, when it really counts. Player of the Week: RB JT Benson, South Oldham 7 rushes 220 yards 3 TD
  19. With one week of playoff match ups in the books, we'll (hopefully) start seeing more competitive games going forward for the remainder of the playoffs. No big upsets across the state, as was expected, and the same was true right here in our region. Just in the Louisville Power Rankings, the teams won by an average margin of 48-3. This week, we'll have two games that pit teams in our rankings against each other, Saint Xavier versus Butler and Male versus North Hardin. Four teams will be on the road this week. 1. 6A Saint Xavier (8-3) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Ohio County 68-0. This Week: Home vs. 6A Butler (8-3) 2. 6A Male (10-1) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Meade County 36-0. This Week: Away vs. 6A North Hardin (8-3) 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (11-0) - Last Week: Defeated 2A Covington Holy Cross 62-0. This Week: Home vs. 2A Lloyd Memorial (7-4) 4. 2A DeSales (10-1) - Last Week: Defeated 2A Newport 49-6. This Week: Away vs. 2A Newport Central Catholic (5-6) 5. 6A Butler (8-3) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Central Hardin 33-8. This Week: Away vs. 6A Saint Xavier (8-3) 6. 5A South Oldham (10-1) - Last Week: Defeated 5A Fairdale 64-7. This Week: Home vs. 5A Bullitt Central (7-4) 7. 5A Oldham County (10-1) - Last Week: Defeated 5A Doss 50-14. This Week: Away vs. 5A Fern Creek (7-4) 8. 6A Trinity (5-6) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Muhlenberg County 69-0. This Week: Home vs. 6A Henderson County (7-4) 9. 4A Moore (10-1) - Last Week: Defeated 4A West Jessamine 41-0. This Week: Home vs. 4A Mercer County (5-6) 10. 6A North Hardin (8-3) - Last Week: Defeated 6A Manual 14-0. This Week: Home vs. 6A Male (10-1) Top Performers QB Garrett Dennis, Male: 16/25 240 yards 3TD/1INT QB Clayton Masters, CAL: 4/4 141 yards 3 TD RB Antione Johnson, DeSales: 9 carries 80 yards 3 TD QB Chaz Burks, Butler: 10/19 272 yards 4TD DB Jacob Ratliff, Oldham County: 9 total tackles, 1.5 TFL, 47 yard punt return TD Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier vs. 6A Butler (Part 2) The Tigers won the first matchup between these two teams 14-6. Unlike three weeks ago, this game will be at St. X in front of a large Tiger home crowd. Will Butler be able to produce more points this time around? Will X's defense dominate? Who moves on in the 6A playoffs?
  20. 1. 6A St. Xavier (6-2) Since starting 0-2, the St. X has improved each week, despite multiple injuries to key players, specifically their starting QB. He didn't play last week, but that did not keep the Tigers from winning their sixth straight game, and knocking off previously unbeaten 6A Male, 28-13. Backup QB Douglas Bodhaine led the way, going 9/13 for 125 yards and a score through the air. He also added 90 rushing yards and another TD. The Tigers travel to 6A Butler this week. 2. 6A Male (8-1) It took eight weeks, but Male finally ran into a team who's defense was better, even if it were only for a night. The Bulldogs never could get much going offensively and dropped their first game of the year, falling to 6A St. Xavier 28-13 last Friday. They will finish their regular season this week at home against long time rival 6A Manual. 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (8-0) CAL kept rolling, and dominated an over-matched 2A Shawnee 63-14 last week. The Centurions did their damage on the ground, racking up a total of seven rushing touchdowns scored by five different players. This week, CAL will travel to 2A Washington County. 4. 2A DeSales (7-1) Coming off a loss to their arch rival a week ago, the Colts looked to rebound with a big win over 2A Washington County. DeSales did win 24-12, but it certainly wasn't the outcome many expected. Was it a let down after an emotional loss the week before, or are there issues brewing with the Colts? They will travel to 2A Shawnee this week, where they should win comfortably. 5. 6A Butler (7-2) The Bears put together another impressive showing and their defense was once again dominant, defeating 6A Eastern 41-0 last Friday. QB Chaz Burks once again led the way, throwing 13/20 for 190 yards and 3 TD's. Butler ends their regular season this Friday, hosting 6A St. Xavier for the district title. 6. 5A South Oldham (7-1) An offensive explosion lead the Dragons to their highest point total of the season, and a decisive 70-14 win over 5A Bullitt Central. Eight players reached the end zone for South, who racked up 229 yards passing and 369 yards rushing. They will continue district play this week as they host 5A North Bullitt. 7. 5A Oldham County (7-1) RB Lucas Jones was once again the star of the night for OC, piling up 172 rushing yards on 12 attempts and 3 TD's in route to a 58-7 victory over 5A Nelson County. The Colonels will host 5A Bullitt East this Friday night. 8. 6A Trinity (3-6) The defense posted it's second straight shutout, and the Shamrocks completely dominated 6A Seneca 63-0, in a game that was shortened in the 2nd Half. The final score was actually the score at halftime, and the teams agreed to play shortened quarters in the 2nd half. Trinity returns home for the first time in a month for their regular season finale, hosting 6A Ballard on Friday for the district championship. 9. 4A Moore (7-1) The Mustangs enjoyed a late BYE week last Friday and had the week off. This week, they return to action and host 4A John Hardin. 10. 6A North Hardin (5-3) North Hardin was also off last week, regrouping for the end of the regular season and post season. They host cross-town rival 6A Central Hardin this Friday. Trends Up: Saint Xavier - The Tigers have improved each week and continue to move in the right direction as we move closer to the post-season. First year coach Kevin Wallace has his team trending in the right direction at the right time of the year. Will they continue their winning streak all the way to a State Championship appearance? Down: DeSales - While they won this past week, the Colts have looked less than spectacular over the last two weeks. After the loss to CAL and then a game that was much closer than many expected, DeSales doesn't seem to be the same team we saw early in the year. Can they smooth things out for another run? Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier at 6A Butler This game became much more interesting after last Friday's results, as this contest could now crown a district championship. If St. X gets the victory, they will be the district champs. If Butler wins, that creates a three way tie for the district, and the champion will be decided based on a tie breaker. Look for a lower scoring contest, as both teams have impressive defensive units. Big plays and turnovers will likely decide the winner of this one, and inevitably, the district champion. Last Week's GOTW: 6A St. Xavier 28 6A Male 13 With Male having dominated the majority of their opponents through eight weeks, and St. X trending up weekly, this one had the makings of a slug fest. Male showed signs early of maybe being able to score on the X defense, but that quickly changed as the Tigers took control of the game and never really looked back. While the final was only a two-score difference, it really didn't seem that close, as the X defense made every play difficult for Male. The Tigers put 6A on notice that perhaps they were the team to beat... Player of the Week: WR Ethan Bednarczyk, South Oldham 5 receptions 195 yards 2 TD
  21. 1. 6A Male (7-0) The Bulldogs just keep rolling. With yet another shutout and another blowout, Male defeated 6A Pleasure Ridge Park 49-0 last week. They take their talents on the road this week, visiting 6A Bryan Station in Lexington. 2. 2A DeSales (6-0) Another 6A team, and another hard fought win. DeSales faced their third 6A opponent of the year, and again came away with the victory against North Hardin, 27-24. This week, it's the game they've likely had circled on their calendar since the summer, as they take on crosstown 2A rival CAL, a battle for the top spot in 2A. 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (6-0) CAL posted their second straight shutout, and defeated 6A Meade County 38-0. It was their final tune up before travelling to 2A foe DeSales this Friday, a battle for the top spot in the district and in 2A. 4. 6A Saint Xavier (4-2) If new X Coach Kevin Wallace could have picked any regular season game to win in his first year, he would have for sure picked the one his Tigers just played. The Tigers defeated their long-time rival Trinity 21-7 at Cardinal Stadium last Friday, X's first win in the series in seven tries. They will look to carry the momentum from the win into this week, where they'll face another long time rival, the 6A Manual Crimsons. 5. 6A Butler (5-2) After a disappointing loss to Male, Butler got back in the win column, grinding out a 14-10 win over 6A Manual. The Bears will travel to 6A Pleasure Ridge Park this week to continue district play. 6. 5A South Oldham (5-1) The Dragons didn't miss a beat last week, winning their fifth straight game in dominating fashion, beating 5A Nelson County 48-6. They enter a three game stretch against all teams from Bullitt County this week, travelling to 5A Bullitt East on Friday. *In regards to South not being in the rankings last week, it was simply an error of omission. I had them in my notes, and honestly don't know how I completed the rankings and missed having them in there. 7. 5A Oldham County (5-1) Fresh off a loss to crosstown rival South Oldham, the Colonels rebounded and improved to 1-1 in the district, defeating 5A North Bullitt 48-14 last Friday. They continue district play this week as they travel to 5A Bullitt Central. 8. 6A Trinity (1-6) The Shamrocks were unable to stay in the win column after picking up their first win of the year a week ago, falling to arch rival Saint Xavier 21-7. They return to district play this week, as they travel to 6A Eastern on Thursday night. 9. 6A North Hardin (4-3) For the second straight week, North Hardin found themselves on the losing end of a game to a team from a smaller division, falling to 2A DeSales 27-24. They will finally start district play this week, as they travel to 6A Meade County. 10. 4A Moore (6-1) The Mustangs have rebounded well after their lone loss of the season three weeks ago. Moore defeated 4A Breckenridge County 34-0 last Friday, improving to 2-0 in the district (two shut outs). They travel to 4A Western this week. Game of the Week: 2A DeSales vs. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville In what will likely be one of the best games in the state this week, this match up between 2A powers will not only decide the winner of this district, but likely determine the favorite to win the 2A State Championship in December. These teams have matched up pretty evenly over the past couple of seasons, splitting wins in 2017 (DeSales won in the regular season, CAL won in the playoffs). Should be another excellent atmosphere and game in this series on Friday. Last Week's GOTW: 6A Saint Xavier 21 6A Trinity 7 After failing in their last seven attempts, the Tigers finally got back in the win column against their arch rival Trinity in front of a crowd of 18,000 at Cardinal Stadium. Many would argue it hadn't been much of a rivalry as of late, but this win in Coach Wallace's first year at the helm has the Tiger faithful boastful and excited for the future. While Trinity showed flashes of making a game of it, Saint Xavier was in control most of the way, and showed that they are indeed the better team in 2018. Player of the Week: QB Anthony Sabatino, Christian Academy - Louisville 22/29 267 yards 3 TD

  25. 1. 6A Male (6-0) After two red zone turnovers in the first half and a handful of other miscues, the Bulldogs overcame a slow start last Friday and pulled away late to beat 6A Butler 30-12 to remain unbeaten on the year. WR Izayah Cummings was the star of the show for Male, pulling down eight catches for 165 yards and a touchdown to lead the offensive attack. Male will travel to 6A Pleasure Ridge Park this week. 2. 2A DeSales (5-0) The Colts handled their fourth higher classed team of the season, defeating 3A power Lexington Catholic 38-24 last week. QB Aaron Pfaadt was 8/11 for 150 yards and two scores, while RB Antione Johnson rushed for 149 yards on 24 attempts and another score. DeSales finishes up their non-district schedule this week as they take on 6A North Hardin. 3. 2A Christian Academy - Louisville (5-0) CAL had the week off this past week as they prepare for the second half of their season. This week, the Centrions host 6A Meade County. 4. 6A Butler (4-2) Having been dominant in four of their five previous games, the Bears came into last Friday's match up with 6A Male with an upset in mind. Unfortunately for them, the Bulldogs flexed their muscles late, and handed Butler a 30-12 loss in front of a huge come crowd. RB Eric Jackson and WR Demontae Crumes both had very long scoring plays in the 3rd Quarter to make it interesting, getting as close as 16-12, but the Bears would not score again. They travel to 6A Manual this Friday. 5. 6A Saint Xavier (3-2) The Tigers seem to have found their footing after a slow start, winning their third in a row last week beating 6A Pleasure Ridge Park 45-13. QB Keegan Sullivan was 13/23 for 145 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Douglas Bodhaine added two scores on the ground to the total. The Tigers face their annual meeting with long-time 6A rival Trinity this Friday at Cardinal Stadium. 6. 6A Trinity (1-5) Trinity finally got the proverbial monkey off their back last week, dominating an over-matched 6A Jeffersontown 65-0, their first win in 2018. Sophomore QB Bradley West got the start and took advantage of the opportunity, going 6/6 for 182 yards and five touchdowns. The win probably came at the best possible time, as the Rocks gear up for their annual tilt with 6A Saint Xavier this Friday. 7. 5A Oldham County (4-1) A hot start to the season had the Colonels primed and ready for a showdown with their cross town rivals, 5A South Oldham. The Dragons, however, were the victors last Friday, handing OC their first loss of the season, 23-17. Lucas Jones and Parker Caudill each scored for the Colonels. Oldham County travels to 5A North Bullitt this week. 8. 6A North Hardin (4-2) On the heels of a four game winning streak, the Trojans ran into a road block, falling to 3A Boyle County 21-14 last Friday. They won't have any time to dwell on the loss either, as they host 2A power DeSales this week. 9. 3A Central (4-2) Following back to back losses to local 6A teams, the Yellow Jackets got back to their winning ways, dispatching 3A Henry County 20-9 last week. They will host 3A Waggener this week. 10. 4A Moore (5-1) The Mustangs got back in the W column and continue on one of their best seasons in recent memory, beating 4A Valley 27-0. Rae Von Vaden and Horatio Willis combined for 8/10, 153 yards and 3 TD's through the air to lead Moore to the victory. They will travel to 4A Breckenridge County this Friday. Weekly Trends: There hasn't really been much movement recently in the "trending up or trending down" department. That's likely to change in the coming weeks as we have several local match ups between teams in our Power Rankings. X/T, DeSales/CAL, Butler/X, Male/X, etc. The top of Louisville 6A should be sorting itself out in the next several weeks. Game of the Week: 6A Saint Xavier vs. 6A Trinity In what is the biggest high school football game in the state of Kentucky annually, a lot of question marks surround both teams even after six weeks. Even though the Rocks have won 14 of the last 15 games against their Tiger counterparts, this is probably the closest to a toss up game this series has seen in quite a while. Saint Xavier did not get the start they were looking for, starting 0-2, but a few plays here and there and they could be 5-0 as opposed to 3-2. Trinity, mostly due to their difficult scheduling, but also due to less than desirable play at times, just picked up their first win in 2018. We could learn a lot about one or both of these teams this week, and maybe figure out which team will challenge Male in the playoffs. Last Week's GOTW: 6A Male 30 6A Butler 12 This one was much closer than the final score, well into the 3rd Quarter, as both teams struggled to find any rhythm offensively. Butler forced two Male turnovers in the red zone in the 1st half, keeping the score within reach at 10-0 at the break. A couple big plays by Butler in the 3rd Quarter gave the crowd the feeling that an upset was in the making, but Male showed why they are #1 in the state, getting stops when they needed and putting points on the board in front of a hostile Butler home crowd. Neither team played that well, especially early, but that lead to an exciting game until late in the 4th Quarter. Male escaped with a win, and Butler showed they have the ability to hang with the "big boys." Player of the Week: WR Izayah Cummings, Male 8 receptions (career high) 165 yards (career high) 1 TD
