I'm in the minority I guess, the 2 minute warning doesn't bother me.

Nothing more exciting than a last minute Touchdown drive. A 2 minute warning gives both offense and defense a chance to reset for the last few pivotal plays that may determine the outcome of the game.

I am not opposed to a 2 minute warning if they simply make it one of the allotted TV timeouts. In other words, as long as they don't add an extra TV timeout. If they do it that way, I actually like the idea.

The TV timeouts are why I much prefer watching NFL games at home on TV vs. at the stadium. A couple years ago I had free tickets to a Bengals game. I left at halftime to watch the second half at home. TV timeouts are terrible for the game attendance experience.

I get that TV is what drives the big money that is in college sports. Hopefully this 2 minute warning timeout will just be one of the regular TV timeouts just scheduled for the 2 minute mark. Not an extra TV timeout.

I thought I would take some time now that the season has come to another (IMO) disappointing end. I know a few on here thank that Coach Stoops is a great coach and has done an exceptional job. While a lot of people think he has not been all that good or that he has done a lot of good for improving the program but has done all that he can do. ( I fall into the latter).

I thought I would take a deeper drive into Coach Stoops 11 year tenure at Kentucky and look at the numbers. I had my own idea about the numbers being a little inflated by the non-conference opponents, but I was even surprised at the numbers once you look into the wins and the teams they were against. Here below is the breakdown of the 11 seasons.

2013- 2-10 (both wins vs. FCS or old 1-AA)

2014- 5-7 (3 of the 5 wins vs. FCS) The 2 SEC wins were against Vandy & South Carolina.

2015- 5-7 (3 of 5 wins vs. FCS) The 2 SEC wins were against Vandy & Missouri.

2016- 7-6 (2 of 7 wins vs. FCS and 1 of the 6 losses was vs. an FCS team) Won 4 SEC games against South Carolina, Vandy, Missouri and Miss. State. (none had a winning record in league or regular season).

2017- 7-6 (3 of 7 wins vs. FCS) Won 4 SEC games vs. South Carolina, Missouri, Vandy, and Tennessee. Only South Carolina and Missouri had winning league and regular season records.

2018- 10-3 (3 of 10 wins vs. FCS) Won 5 SEC games vs. Florida, S.C., Miss. State, Vandy, Missouri. Florida, South Carolina, Miss. State & Missouri had .500 or      above league and regular season records.

2019- 8-5 (3 of 8 wins vs. FCS) Won 3 SEC games vs. Vandy, Arkansas, & Missouri. None had a .500 or above league record. Only Missouri had .500 regular season record.

2020-5-6 Only SEC games due to Covid. KY had 4 SEC wins vs. Miss. State, Tennessee, Vandy and S.C. None of those 4 teams had a .500 or above SEC or regular season record.

2021-10-3 (3 of 10 wins vs. FCS) Won 5 SEC games vs. Missouri, S.C., Florida, LSU, & Vandy. None of those 5 teams had a .500 or above SEC record and only South Carolina had a .500 regular season record or better.

2022-7-6 (3 of 7 wins vs. FCS) Won 3 SEC games vs. Florida, Miss. State, & Missouri. Only Miss. State had a .500 or better SEC and regular season records.

2023-7-6 ( of 7 wins vs. FCS) Won3 SEC games vs. Florida, Vandy, & Miss. State. None of those 3 teams had a .500 or better SEC or regular season records.

Coach Stoops overall career numbers at Kentucky thru 11 seasons:

Career overall record:                                          SEC overall record:                                              Bowl Record:

    73-65                                                                          35-55                                                                          4-4

A few observations about the above numbers:

    * Of the 73 total wins in Coach Stoops 11 seasons at Kentucky 28 of those have been versus   FCS (1-AA) or 38.3%.

    * Of the 35 SEC wins 15 of those 35 have been vs. Vandy and South Carolina or 43% of all SEC wins are vs. these two programs.

    * Only 6 of the 35 SEC wins were vs. teams that finished at .500 or higher in league play or 17%.

    * Only 8 of the 35 SEC wins were vs. teams that finished at .500 or higher in the regular season or final records. That is only 23%.

I'd be very interested to hear what others think about the numbers when looked at a little closer.

The MAC is not FCS. They are Group of 5 FBS.

The KHSAA expanded their playoff system in 1991 to include the top four teams in each district, and I believe Greenup County county became one of the first group of winless teams to ever make the KHSAA playoffs. The '91 Musketeers ended up 0-11 after losing to Cov Cath in the opening round of the AAA playoffs.

Cov Cath also scrimmaged at Greenup County for three or four years back in the late 80s/early 90s before they started a five or six year-long run of scrimmaging at Shelby County. Coach Ray and company liked heading a good way out of town for scrimmages to make it tougher for local competition around NKY to scout them.

Your knowledge of the history of Covington Catholic football is amazing! Thank you for sharing it with us!

Oh man, that was completely just a swing and a miss on my part. Totally overlooked the 1984 playoffs. Cov Cath played Newport in the first round and won 21-14 and then lost 27-0 to Danville in the second round like you guys stated. My bad, there. I'll go back and correct things in the previous posts.

I was hoping that the Danville loss had been erased from history since I had a part in it. Lol

Went to opening day with the boy Thursday. I saw that Luke Maile is on the team. Doesn't he have a connection to the 9th region? Beechwood or Dixie maybe?

Not sure if Jack has taken advantage of the COVID re-do year or if he's headed back for graduate year after red-shirting, but he's staying on at Miami for one more season.

Jack will graduate this spring. He has 2 years of eligibility left. He is returning to Miami to work on his Master's Degree.

Thank you for posting his highlight tape from this year!
