  1. Just curious, did you talk to Williamsburg's Coach Robinson after the game or get the stats from their scorebook?
  2. I do not expect Mr. McAllister to provide weekly coverage of South Laurel sporting events but, when publishing an article on something as specific as the best players in the area, he should have considered the entire area.
  3. Oh really! I never heard of him. Just kidding. I understand your point with the News Journals coverage area. I don't agree with it but I don't think anything will change because of my opinion. It would be nice to see an article on some of the smaller schools and their players. If you know a sports writer personally maybe you could mention the idea.
  4. Good point! But I'd still have to buy the News Journal for the People Section. Looks like I'm going to be buying a lot of newspaper next week.
  5. There is a big difference in including Somerset, Harlan, Clay County, Redbird, or OBI with Whitley, Williamsburg, and Corbin. That is a huge area. Corbin, Whitley, Williamsburg, Lynn Camp, and South are not that far apart in distance. I get that his paper doesn't cover the area in question but maybe, just maybe, they should. He recognized Corbin, Londons only a 10 minute drive from there. I work and live towards London and I buy the News Journal every week. There are many more just like me who do the same.
  6. What was the final score of the Williamsburg vs. Corbin game? Does anyone know?
  7. My problem isn't with the fact that Teague did not make the list or that anyone else from Whitley, Lynn Camp, Corbin,or Williamsburg did or did not make the list. Each of these schools were represented. I may or may not agree his choices from each school, but thats my opinion and he has his. We could argue all day over who should be on the list or not and we could mix and match players to try to include everyones favorite from the above mentioned schools but we can't do that with South because they weren't represented at all. You all know that some of South's players are the best around here, better than some of the ones that actually made the list. When you pick the best of the best from our area, Miller should have been included an so should have several South players. Maybe he should have called the article "Players I Personally like from the area". That would have been more like it.
  8. You are welcome to your opinion on Teague. He is young and does need some maturity. I do not consider him one of the areas elite players but he will be in a few years. But Cody Miller, Hammonds, Profitt, Smith... they are the elite area players. I never said that I was an old South Laurel fan. I'm fairly new to all of this sports stuff.
  9. To be honest, and please don't take offense, I didn't even know that London once had a News Journal. I just do not believe that a newspaper can provide complete coverage and leave out players from their area that are deserving. It's not that I disagree with his choice of players that he listed, although as I said in an earlier thread I think Teague from Williamsburg should have been included (IMO, others may disagree) but he left out an entire school. I just don't get it.
  10. A little rough there, Bubba, but I have to agree with you that the News Journal runs with the dogs as far as sports coverage goes. Williamsburg got more coverage from the problems at the beginning of their season than they have since play actually began. I have seen many articles in the News Journal about the Corbin players, articles that interviewed them personally about their goals for the season. I believe that there was even an article listing each player and their individual strengths. Where are the articles on the Whitley or Williamsburg players? There are other teams in our area that play hard and try even if they don't always win.
  11. I can't argue with you anymore, Les. You obviously know more than I do on the subject. I enjoy reading both the Times and the News Journals sports sections. I take an interest in all the area schools, including South Laurel. It is good to see talented young players from our area excell. I hope that Mr. McAllister will rethink his coverage of South.
  12. My point exactly! You hit the nail on the head. You cover the ENTIRE area, not just a portion. I tried to search the News Journal archives to see if they had covered South's State win but had no luck. I do believe that they did though and I can't imagine that they wouldn't this year if South happens to make a good showing at the tournament. I will take some A-1 with my crow if they do not. IMO South should have be recognized along with the other players in Mr. McAllisters article. Can you honestly tell me, as a reporter, that it doesn't bring doubt to your writing if you don't cover all parts of a story?
  13. I guess that answers my question about if they will cover the district games seeing as how Whitley, Corbin, and Willliamsburg will be playing. So, can I expect not to see any coverage of South Laurel if they make to the State tournament or possibly win the state tournament?
  14. Again I ask, Will the News Journal leave out South if they win the district, region, or state? Will they not cover the district games because they are being played at South Laurel? When are they news worthy and when are they not?
  15. Please take a look at the inserts included in today's edition of the News Journal. For example, the Home Expo 2007 insert. A great deal of the advertisements were from London based businesses. I don't think that the paper could afford to loose the London area circulation dollars or the advertising income. That however is beside the point. London is a 10 minute drive from Corbin. It is part of our area. The players from South deserve to be recognized for their abilities the same as Williamsburg, Corbin, or Whitley. A newspaper is meant to broaden the readers perspectives not confine them to a certain area. I have no dispute with the young men that were chosen for the article. They are all talented players but I think that each of them that have played against South would agree that their abilities should have been listed beside their own.
  16. People in London and Barbourville buy the paper and the paper covers their games especially South. Knox and South are part of the 13th region and their stats are listed in the papers "Scoreboard" section. IMO the players from South should have been included. Will they leave them out if they win the District, Region, or State?
  17. Remember the commercial from Wendy's " Where's the Beef?"? Well Mr. McAllister, "Where's South"? I know that it probably should go without saying that South has some of the best players in the area but, when you are writing an article for the front page of the sports section, you need to say it. Hammonds, Smith, Profitt, Borterm, Gilbert, St. John??? Not one can make your list? Where's Teague from Williamsburg? Where's Miller from Knox Central? Didn't Knox beat Corbin this year?
  18. I don't have a problem with Wright. Just wondered why he would risk hurting one of his players that he would need in the upcoming district games against a team he could easily beat without them. The fact that so many of his other players scored big proves my point.
  19. I listened to the game on the radio and it went as I thought that it would. One question though, why did Coach Wright leave Hammonds, Profitt, and Smith in for most of the game? Wouldn't this have been a good game for some of his younger players to have some playing time and what if one of the "Big 3" had gotten hurt. It would have been a shame to lose one of them this close to District against a team such as Williamsburg. Nothing against Williamsburg but South could have won without the "Big 3" in the game.
  20. It was a nice win for Whitley but lets be honest, N.L. was not on top of their game. They had been up all night at the school board meeting and had just lost 2 of their players, one who was one of their best. On a normal night, IMO North would have won. Yes, it was a nice win but you must take into consideration the extra load that North was carrying while they were playing.
  21. This was a good win for Whitley. The team needed a boost. I'm sorry that N.L. is having problems but every team has obstacles to over come at some point. I'm sure North will bounce back. Come anyone tell me why the thread on the issues at North disappeared?
  22. Just trying to point out the obvious that Williamsburg isn't the only school that gets some occasional bad call. The rest of us just don't whine about it as much.
  23. Read the post again. I watched the Williamsburg-Whitley game on Friday night and the Corbin-Adair game on Saturday night. I was told about the poor referring at the Whitley/Cordia. Sorry that I didn't make myself clear but no hard feelings, Bubba. You can ride in my jet sometime but you'll have to bring your own soda pop.
  24. Yes, Bargo has alot of potential but sometimes talent can be offset by attitude.
