  1. The state of Ohio has around 600 schools that participate for 5, count them 5 state championships every year ! All i'm saying is make the title stand for something. There are teams this year that just quite possibly will not win a regular season game and still qualify for the playoffs . That is totally crazy. My alma mater, which is a 6a team, has never won a football championship, but I have never heard him cry about Trinity or X.

There are 6 divisions in Ohio.:thumb:And 716 schools. What if Ohio had county schools like Kentucky?

Ohio would have 88 counties versus 120 for Kentucky.

  2. They need to play a whole game like they did for the first half against Boone COunty to beat Russell. Russell could be as good as Boone, wouldn't know unless they played. Both are lots better than Mason County at this point., hence the statement.

So if Russell is as good as Boone, and a lot better than Mason County, they should roll over Simon Kenton in 2 weeks. I mean Boone is #7 in 6A and Simon Kenton isn't ranked so Russell should dominate them based on your comment.

  3. This weekend doesn't change my perspective on Mason Co. at all. True, Campbell Co. handed it to the Royals pretty good Friday night, but like you state here, they are a very good 6A team. This loss and playing this high level of competition will only help the Royals, a 3A team, in the long run, IMO.

As far as I know Central is the only other 3A team that is doing battle with at least 2 very good 6A teams. Just going to battle and banging with the big boys has to help your team especially the Line. If you can get on the field with huge 6A lineman that mostly play one way, then come back down to 3A where there are less 280 pounders per team and they are going both ways like you are, it is a psychological boost. Playing better top quality competition makes your team better, barring injury. It's like a 40 time. Do you run a 40 faster when you are running against someone slower than you or someone faster than you?:thumb:

  4. Mason basically ran into a very good 6A team on a night when they didn't bring their "A" game. Campbell County was bigger, more physical, and had many players going one way. I was very impressed with their execution of their offense and their discipline on defense. They are very well coached and their two backers #50 and #59 are the best we have played against thus far. Their line dominated our line and we basically got beat. Their D caused the turnovers and shut us down all night. That being said I know our boys will file this one away and get to work on teams in our own classification(3A). This was a bump on the road time to get healthy during the bye week and concentrate on 3A opponents week by week. KEEP YOUR FOCUS AND YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!!!!!!!!!!!This game will help us down the road because the only other 3A school going to war with 2 quality 6A schools (like Boone and Campbell) that I know of is Central. :thumb:

  5. I know for a fact that nearly every school in NKY has at least one representative on here if not more, why is that? Probably because the kids, who this site is for and about, all read the things posted on here. I believe with all my heart that a team can be hurt mentally on here by rivals, fans or haters that post derogatory comments about a schools program or team. If you repeatedly say something loud enough without opposition it doesn't take long until everyone starts to believe that it's true.

That's why I joined, that and my love for HS football of course.:D

First of all, I am pretty sure that Head Coaches throughout Kentucky tell their players not to pay attention to bloggers when it comes to their football team. And if they do read the blogs to understand that they are usually parents or good ole boys who like to sit around the campfire and tell stories. If a team has players that are not mentally tough enough to take some criticism either constructive or not that team has way more problems than the bloggers posts. Now if you are talking about junior high I could understand but High School players should be mature enough to handle it!!!! If anything I think the bloggers who post negative comments give great lockeroom material that the coaches can use to motivate their team. The old US against the world addage!!!:thumb:

  6. Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, East Carter and West Carter. I realize that the schedule is somewhat weak.

Belfry has beaten 2 teams with winning records. One of which has an extremely weak schedule.

Mason lost to Boone and beat Lewis, East and West Carter and Paris. Nothing terribly tough there. Except for possibly Boone.

Sheldon Clark has only beaten teams with a losing record except for Fairland Oh which I have no clue about.

None of the 4 mentioned have a tough schedule so far. So the East is wide open.

Possibly Boone????? They are 6A #7. Mason was up on them at halftime 20-7. The Royals played with them they were down 28-20 with 4 minutes left when they ran out of gas. The Royals also play Campbell (good 6A) and Russell. Central by far has the tougher schedule. I think Mason is 2nd as far as schedule because of Boone, Campbell, Russell. Besides Central are there any other 3A schools facing two quality 6A schools?

  7. With his strength, he sounds like more of a linebacker prospect than a quarterback.

How big is Richie Cox right now? He has great strength and good times.

What is his future projected position? The 30 on the ACT will open a lot of doors at some of the top football playing academic institutions.

Half the DI schools are looking at him at QB, the other half are looking at him at SS. He is 6'4", 210 lbs. Schools that I know of are Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, Northwestern, Duke, Western Kentucky, Eastern K., Army, Navy, Mac Schools, Ivy League schools, etc.:thumb:

  8. I hope Mason believes the Camels have nothing but one LB.

NO WAY!!!!!! The Royals know what's rolling down that AA........................a 6A monster!!!!!!!!! Our boys better lace them up and get ready for a monster battle against a very good Campbell County team. Mason knows they need their "A" game to compete with Campbell!!! I guarantee you that.:thumb:

  9. Richie Cox from Mason County is the most underrated. Not a lot of high school press but he has DI coaches noticing him. He is a rare combination of leadership, intelligence, power, and speed. Let me clarify Leadership - Mason is 4-1 with 1 turnover in 5 games including Boone County. Intelligence reads D's and scored a 30 on his ACT on one try. Power- 355 Bench, 505 Squat Speed- 4.56 40, 4.21 Pro-Shuttle. (These are all on the record Board in Mason.) Ask any coach who has coached against him he is for real.:sssh:

  10. More bad: way too many missed assignments on defense. West did pile up some yards; and not all against the scrubs. You might not think so from the score, but Coach B will have some things to talk about on Monday. Didn't sound satisfied AT ALL in the post-game show.

I am glad that Coach is not satisfied McPapa!!!! I don't think the players are either. I am glad that Homecoming is over and the boys can concentrate on football!!! #3 on West was a lot faster than I originally thought. Kudos to West, I knew they would come to play. Of course bad pursuit angles kill ya. So do holding penalties on TD passes. There are many things we have to work on. I hope the Royals understand that they have to get better every game. All this talk about Russell and going to Louisville is great for the people sitting in the stands BUT the Royals need to focus and play one game at a time while getting better in all three phases(O,D,Special Teams). I thought the Royals played well last night. Next up is Campbell County(6A) and the Royals better lace them up because Campbell will bring an attitude that they want to punch us in the mouth!!!! REGULATORS MOUNT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS A FIGHT A COMING!!!!!!!!!!:fight:

BY THE WAY, TO BIG COUNTRY, BIG RAY, JACKS, LITTLE COXYPUP, AND THE REST OF THE SENIORS..............DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE AND........TAKE YOUR 6 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!:ylsuper:

  11. I don't have to wait to give you my impression. They are two very tough programs that know how to control their opponets. Their coaches know what to do and how to do it. I've always said that Coach Mcglone is a coaching genius. He more than likely will prove that tomorrow night. It's going to be a doozy. As for the West/Mason game...... Well.... I'll say a little prayer.

I'M SURE YOUR BOYS WILL COME READY TO PLAY!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO YA!!! ARE YOU EATING AT THE TAILGATE(5:30-6:45) THEY FEED EVERYBODY FOR 5 BUCKS!!! GOOD EATS!!!!!:thumb:

  12. If Mason plays like they did against East (swarming defense, taking advantage of a short field, vastly improved LB play, dominating the line on both sides of the ball) they will do well. If it comes down to it, Cox can carry the Royals with his arm or with his legs; but he didn't have to last Friday.

    I'll say Mason 34-10.

PS - any news on Thompson? The shoulder didn't look serious but he did sit out for over half the game vs. East.

McPapa, On paper the Royals should win this one BUT in the past we have seen letdowns by the Royals because of overconfidence. Do you think that the win last Friday over East Carter will see the Royals to continue to strive for excellence and get better OR be satisfied that they played excellent last week and let West Carter sneak up on them and beat them. I am excited to see how the Royals react. Last week we got the halftime bug that the Royals catch shored up now we will see if this team is for real or just pretenders.

  13. Graybeard has been on here long before you came around, and I'm sure he'll be around for a long time. He's as big as fan as you'll find, and he's as classy a Tomcat fan you'll find, win or lose. And Graybeard was at the game last night, unlike some people. And to set the record straight, Graybeard was right here on BGP posting after last week's game as the post below proves.

I have coached football for eleven years, played D-III(Dayton) and D-I (Ohio State)college football, and played since I was six years old in Ohio. There are several posters on here that I follow and read and Graybeard is one of them. His posts are mostly factual or dealing with insight into the games or what the teams need to improve on. That is why I read his posts. I have never read any posts by Graybeard stating he gives up on Ashland or badmouthing the coaches etc. Keep up your posts Graybeard I thoroughly enjoy reading your comments. By the way, I am like Switzerland and neutral when it comes to Ashland, I have no affiliation to Ashland. But my son has played against you in the past. And for what it is worth you do have an excellent coach and coaching staff.:thumb:

  14. Big KUDOS to our offensive line. I watched film and just about every play there is a surge up front for Mason. I thought our LBer play tonight was exceptional - scraping to the ball, putting licks on people causing turnovers. Our defense was smothering and there were a lot of big hits. Pollitts tackle of #28 was a slobberknocker!!!!!!!(kind of reminded of "The Assassin") The thing I am most excited about is that we came out better in the second half. Mason must continue to play both halves from here out!!!!!!! I liked the fact that our second teamers came out the second half and played with as much heart and intensity as our first teamers. Again MASON is a TEAM and played TOGETHER, no one individual is more important than the others. And yes McPapa, I told you there are 2 kinds of coaches AND hats off to OUR coach and his staff.:thumb:

  15. In my view, a legitimate move is one in which the family officially changes residence, for whatever reason.

I will not name the player here but we were told that we could not own a home ANYWHERE else in the United States and even if we showed them bills with our name on them that my son was ineligible to play. He was forced to sit out even though we owned a home and moved because I owned other properties in different states. I only had one property in Kentucky. Figure that one out!!! I would like to know do they own, rent, own more than one residence or what! Not because I am against the kid but because what my son went through sitting out. What are the guidelines???????? NONE. Every one of the rules are open to interpretation. It's like the Bible everyone, especially the KHSAA members, interprets them differently!!!!:madman:

  16. wow! I have never heard anyone boldly predict the remainder of a schedule based upon a lopsided loss! Isn't Russell on the Mason County schedule? I don't get it..."hey, Boone County killed us...so I just know that we will run the table and beat Russell!"

Seriously, was the score of the Boone County bashing not a true representation of the closeness of the game or is your opinion of Boone County so great that you feel a 22 point loss to them is enough of a statement to back up the predicition?

It was 28-20 with 4 minutes left. Coach Buchanan realized that our 1st teamers who had gone both ways all-night were exhausted. After Boone got the ball back Coach B put in the JV to finish the game. Boone County chose to leave their 1's in. They scored 14 on our JV and Freshman. Halftime we were ahead 20-7. Boone just had more dogs. They are a great team but we played them great. :thumb:

  17. I agree that Mason didn't look razor edge tonight but 42 to 7 for the 1's is pretty good. But I will tell you that this team can be very special because they play together as a TEAM. I saw something tonight that made my adrenaline sore and made me realize that this TEAM can make a push. Richie Cox (QB) was named MVP of the bowl game and was presented a huge trophy at midfield. That part was ordinary I had seen that a million times. Cox then held the trophy up and took it over to his OLINE and presented his MVP trophy to the lineman, he gave them the trophy to keep. The OLINE then gave the trophy to their OLINE coach to keep!!! When you have team chemistry like that good things are going to happen. Keep it up Mason County- remember PLAY TOGETHER and........................TAKE THE SIX MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumb:
