  1. It is good to see Mason throw for more yardage this year than they did last year against Paris. I believe it was 105 yards this year as compared to 55 yard the year before. Good win for the Royals...........Good luck the rest of the season. Keep being the class act that you are Chief Smoke!

Why is it good to see Mason throw for more yardage this year than last year??? How many interceptions were there last year vs. Paris???? Didn't have to throw when we could run??? What is your post trying to say?????

  2. Good game Coach B. I knew you would have the boys ready especially defensively. Good start for all new offensive line in that Thompson ran up 175 yds. I figured you would mainly run the ball while Neal gains more experience. I had it 21-18. Did you kick 2 field goals or did you miss PAT? Good luck next week coach. :thumb: As usual Coach B. shows class!!!!

  3. MC ( is ) better than last year. I can't wait to watch them.

Just about the same feeling before the 2002 season when Grutza was a soph.

The Royals will be fun to watch.

How do you figure???? They lost Richie Cox(QB), every starting offensive lineman , Tolle at TE, Brooks who was their deep threat. Plus all those that played both ways on defense!! Tolle, Cox, Brace, Big Ray, Box - who by the way set the school record for INT's, and Reid.

I will always back coach B and the royals but this year is going to be a "get some experience year". 2 years from now they will be front runners.;)

  4. Hang in there Mason County. Neal is still young and is improving at QB everyday. Richie Cox is not an easy QB to replace but Neal is very talented and will come around. I was afraid the Mason line would be young and less experienced which is also true. Remember replacing Wiley, Ray, Ricky, and big Chris is no easy task. Coach will have the boys up and running by next week. Good Luck Royals from Crimson Land the new home of The Mad Stork and the best clam chowder you ever ate!!!!!!! :thumb:

  5. Update from last night. Anderson hurt his leg as Richie Cox ran past the bag at first, he was playing first due to arm troubles. Nothing is broken though. A player for St. Pat dislocated his shoulder during an at bat last night as well.

St. Pat has 2 players with hurting arms, a player with a dislocated shoulder, a player with a broken hand, and a player with a broken collar bone. They are hurting.

Glad to hear the young man on first was ok. Nothing intentional on Richie's part just running hard. Good luck to the young man. :thumb:

  6. I wasn't aware so many people didn't know how earned and unearned runs are determined. It's easy. The pitcher is supposed to get three outs. If his defense doesn't get him those outs as they occur the official scorer keeps track as if they do. Once the pitcher has done his job and gotten his three outs, real or not (error), then he is off the hook for earned runs and all runs scored after this are declared unearned. You can give up ten HR's after getting your three "outs" and all ten runs are unearned.

So then we can equate keeping score to doing calculus........................ In calculus you are working with imaginary numbers in an imaginary plane of existence, so the kid hit a homerun but because of the error(which I am not sure it was scored as) which occurred prior to the homerun, was an unearned imaginary run that scored two other unearned imaginary runs in a plane of existence where the batting team did not score the runs but the team in the field gave them through their imaginary pitch which the batter took it yard using his imaginary bat. OK thanks for clearing that up!!!! :thumb:

  7. I thought if they reached on balls they were unearned too.

found this in rule book. Base on balls not error. It is pitcher's fault.

    EARNED RUNS

10.18 An earned run is a run for which the pitcher is held accountable. In determining earned runs, the inning should be reconstructed without the errors (which include catcher's interference) and passed balls, and the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the pitcher in determining which bases would have been reached by errorless play. For the purpose of determining earned runs, an intentional base on balls, regardless of the circumstances, shall be construed in exactly the same manner as any other base on balls.

    (a) An earned run shall be charged every time a runner reaches home base by the aid of safe hits, sacrifice bunts, a sacrifice fly, stolen bases, putouts, fielder's choices, bases on balls], hit batters, balks or wild pitches (including a wild pitch on third strike which permits a batter to reach first base) before fielding chances have been offered to put out the offensive team. For the purpose of this rule, a defensive interference penalty shall be construed as a fielding chance.

  8. If there are two outs and an error is made that would have resulted in the third out had it not been made, all runs scoring after that error are unearned, whether its a home run or not.

The fielder would have had to be charged with an error on the pop foul for the hitter to be an unearned run. Was the foul ball charged as an error??? If I am not mistaken the foul ball hit the sign in right field and was not a routine catch the fielder didn't even touch it as it hit the metal sign???????? And didn't one of the runners reach on balls??? That is not an error so that run would be earned also. Good scenario for the scorer!!!!! Interesting.

  9. Bobby Estes pitched for the Camels and deserved a better fate. All five Royal runs in the second were unearned. Camels were impatient at the plate and totaled six hits for the game. The Royals had four hits. Royals made the plays when they had too and deserved the win.

Homerun by Cox driving in 3 runs are unearned runs????????????????????????????? Since when is a homerun an unearned run? What's in that soda your drinking OLDSODA???????????????????????:confused::confused::confused:

  10. None of these guys you all have listed would start for Harrison Co. Brandon Martin takes home 10th region player of the year again!

Ask Harrison's coach would he like to have any of those players? I bet he says YES. I definitely think Harrison has talent. Who was homerun king for region 10 last year???? You probably don't know................. Enough said. Don't be a hater!!!!!! :sssh:

  11. I agree Stork. They played as a team last night. Everyone made a play and contributed. If they can keep up that kind of hitting and play that solid of defense they will be a sleeper. The only question I have for this team is pitching? I'm not saying that they don't have good pitchers, they are young and inexperienced. They just need to focus on throwing consistant first pitch strikes to get ahead in the count, and not try to stike every hitter out. Wylie threw a heck of a game last night and let his defense work for him, and that is what they are going to have to do all season because they don't have an over powering pitcher.

Jeris Carver(#11) came through big last night in the sixth inning with a double. He almost made a baserunning mistake (only a freshman), but made a good slide at third to avoid the tag.

Also, good to have Keegan McGee back this year, who sat out last year to play tennis. He made a nice catch out in right center last night. He is a good lead off hitter who makes a lot of contact at the dish. 3

One other thing I want to point out. There was a time last night Michael Feagly was up to bat, and a runner on first, had the steal sign. Feagly did a nice piece of hitting to the right side to allow the runner to advance to third. Just something that doesn't show up in the stats that I saw last night that wil help win a lot of ball games.

    Keep winning Royals!! :dancingpa

I agree totally. I think if Coach Murph sticks with a rotation with the young, inexperienced pitching staff it will bring consistency and a sense of knowing when you start. I know that pitch count is a necessity. Coach Murph needs to be wary of burning a guy out especially early. I think that a consistent rotation and the team playing together and looking at one game at a time the Royals will do well.

I was impressed with the team as a whole the other night. I don't know how many times last year I saw hitters way off timing and watching the third strike go by. I didn't see that this first game. Royals were alot more relaxed and aggressive trying to hit. Big improvement.

It is way too early to start celebrating but if the Royals continue to play defense and not have 3 or more errors a game it is going to be a good season. Last year ERRORS lost us alot of ballgames. I mean it was rampant. The first game was fun to watch the Royals playing some lockdown D. Especially at the end. I hope the Royals rally as a team, especially after Michael Fegley's accident last night, and play together. It was good to see Michael playing 2nd. We'll pray for you Michael.

  12. Great Start! Mason County played the best baseball I have seen them play in a couple years. 1st inning there were a couple errors which had me sweating. Last year errors killed us. But then the defense tightened up and the bats were swinging. I really enjoyed watching the boys play like a team!!! It seems like everyone contributed. Great team win. Big Country gets props for pitching debut after a two year hiatous. Coxypup gets props for double driving in go ahead run and starting old fashioned hitting ralley!!! Drew had a great catch in left field down the line and #11 had a great hit and beautiful head first slide under tag at 3rd base. The only negative was Wiley trying to take out our own players going after pop-ups!!!! Keep playing together Royals............ One game at a time as a team!!!!!!:ylsuper:

  13. I would agree that the camps are not the most effective tool for getting exposure.

As far as your son, that may actually be a correct time and not a faulty "first movement button person". It's not actually a person at all. It is very likely that your son had an early movement and his clock started, while the other runner did not. Thus, he would have a slower time despite "winning" the race. The only reason they run athletes against one another is to speed up the process and to give them someone to compete with while running.

Electronic timing is entirely different than hand times......it takes a little while to "learn" the system. Hard to do at a camp....

I agree that they were being individually timed electronically, but there were two kids basically hitting a handheld switch at the beginning for each player. They clicked it on first movement. At the end their were sensors. My son's handheld time best 4.56, worst 4.68. The experience we had was negative. They were more interested in selling us training shoes then seriously testing athletes. My son scratched his 40 time because he wasn't happy with it. Even with the 4.9 his rating would be in the top ten of the combines Nike had run for his position. At the end I went up to the "kids" running the combine and even though the times were written down by them they would not let him keep the time to get his Sparq rating official. They said he scratched it and that was it then my son explained what happened and he wasn't sure if he should scratch. Their reply was maybe he should buy their training shoes. Like I said, don't waste your time. Every college coach that recruited my son said they never looked at Sparq ratings and some never even heard about it before. By the way my son is going to a NCAA Division I school. Pick your college camps, get your films together, and contact your colleges recruiting coach. Good Luck!!!:thumb:

  14. Not worth it!!! Went to Capital University pre-registered and they were running walk ups in with pre-registered. It took forever. A lot of standing around dead time. They had Capital students, young kids, running the 40's. By the end they just wanted to get out of there. With electronic timing that is everything when the guy running starts it on first movement. Example how bad. My son ran against another athlete. Started and raced against each other. my son beat him. my son's time 4.9. the other kid who lost the race ran a 4.6?????? That far off shows me that somebody is noy manning the first movement button right.

I also talked to a coach from detroit that had a running back that ran a 4.39 forty and was not invited to the Nike camp which should be the whole reason for going. He said they already have the "Name" kids picked who get a lot of publicity. Workout, run, go to colleges that you are interested in for summer camp. :thumb:
