I think CC will struggle with Holmes' speed and pressure. CC better be ready for an up and down game. Listerman will think he's playing a team from Louisville, not a team from NKY. I think Holmes will pull the upset by 2.

Obviouslly you weren't at the game. Downs took one three point shot.
Where did I say Downs was shooting threes? I said the gameplan has changed and MULTIPLE players shooting threes along with zone defense. Previous years they always threw the ball to the post and the wings and guards did not shoot threes until that occurred. Someone in post #23 said that.

IMO it was an uncharacteristicly sloppy game by Boone. They seemed very flat on defense, not getting out on shooters when they were in their zones. That gave a lot of open looks that Sayre didn't miss. This forced Boone to go man and they struggled to guard the quicker Sayre players. It just was not a good match-up. Sayre many times had 4 guards on the floor and Boone had 4 post-players trying to guard them. Offensively Boone scored when they got the ball inside to Brown, but they kept getting away from that and sometimes jacking up a shot after the first pass and not working the ball inside at all. They on occasion were settling for the 3 on the fast break instead of attacking the rim. It was a back and forth game until Boone had several possessions in a row with turnovers that Sayre converted into points. This was in the 4th quarter and Boone could not recover from it. Montgomery is a huge part of thier team and this is thier first game without him. I think they will be fine once they adjust to not having him in the line-up. I talked to Travis at the game and he is doing physical therapy right now and hoping to come back this season. I hope he does.
Seems like Boone is doing many things that are uncharacteristic of previous years play. Playing zone defenses, multiple players jacking up threes and not utilizing the post on every posession. Sounds like a complete different gameplan since the coaches sons are the ones playing.

By the looks at the score, Seneca just outscored them. 177 points and no OT, that's a lot of points and very little defense by both teams. Seneca is just as athletic as Ballard, they must have had a good night shooting the ball. Congratulations Seneca. With Ballards schedule, it was just a matter of time before they got beat. It's hard to keep playing top teams and come away with a win every night.

Yes, Sayre did appear to be very week, but the shots were falling for them tonight. Boone decided instead of relying on their bigs to take control of the game, they would jack up three's and play into a sloppy style game and ended up with "L". The "euro step" was in full stride tonight. Sayre guards were able to have a track meet through the lane without a dribble. Comical game called by the two man crew from that region.
I've seen Boone play several times over the past few years, why all of a sudden are they jacking up threes when in previous years they always worked the ball to the post and didn't allow the wings and guards to even shoot threes?

Are you saying that Connor, Campbell County, Newport Catholic, Colerain, Highlands, Montgomery County, Ashland and Scott are :bunny: teams? I think they may feel differently.
They sure are not some of the top teams in the state. Now if Dixie can go down to the Toyota Classic and beat Western, Scott County and GRC and stay undefeated, then "hats off to them". That would be a huge accomplishment. I'm not trying to downgrade the teams Dixie has played, just comparing it to the other two undefeated teams (until tonight, J-town & Ballard) schedules to Dixie's. Compared to those two teams and other top ranked teams in KY, Dixie's schedule has been extremely easy.

All I can say is, WOW!
-
Then this game doesn't tell us much, except that J-Town is probably still #1.
Agree.

Dixie has a very good team, undefeated so far, but they have played a :bunny: schedule.

Montgomery Co. does a great job hosting this tournament. Unbelieveable facility for a high school and very nicely run!
-
I wouldnt say that. They beat Knott Co Central who is a very athletic team and they won their Region last year. They also beat a decent Ashland team in front of a hostile crowd on the road. I wouldnt say they are going to be ranked in the state Top 25 anytime soon but I do think they are improving.
Boone Co should win this game by 10 or so but it will be a good game. Trevan Brown will be the difference in this one.
KCC lost 85% of their scoring with Cox, Stamper and their center graduating. Ashland?????

All tournament teams usually always pick more from the championship game and the third/fourth place teams. The rest usually depend on performance throughout the whole tournament. Not everyone that deserves to be on the team is usually on the team.
-
Same team that just won the AIT? You're just looking silly now.
Honestly, winning the AIT is not saying much.

Coach Feldhaus got a technical foul called him because the referee thought he was arguing about a call. What he was doing was trying to get their attention about Brenton Covington bleeding from an accidental elbow. I think after that Mason County had about 4-5 calls against them in a row.
Feldhaus is well known throughout the referee ranks as being a coach that constantly complains and very vocally questions calls. Actually to the point that several officials will not call Madison Centrals games. I'm sure at times this tactic works.

As expected, good luck tomorrow GRC!

Clark County leads 33-25 at half
DARNIT! You beat me to it
Closer than I expected, as I said earlier the local teams are usually the weakest teams in the tournament.

Holmes can also run-and-gun with Ballard, hence the 100-94 final score of their game. CovCath isn't as well suited for a high-scoring game like this.
Holmes has quick guards that can handle the press, Cov Cath does not. Thus, the end result. CC's guard play is good enough to handle the NKY "walk-it-up-the-court" half court play that most teams in NKY play but not the fullcourt pressure defense that many teams outsied the NKY area play (except for Holmes). I expect the same result when CC playes Holmes.
-
No disrespect to St. Henry, but Dixie wins this one by as much as they want.
-
Is it safe to say that Conner was the most overrated team in state at the beginning of the year?
No doubt!
-
GRC should easily win the game vs N. Myrtle Beach. The local teams are typically the weakest teams in the tournament.
-
Wow! 8 points in the second half! Gotta forget it and go forward.
-
Good! I was going to give up on them if they lost this game. Hope Coach Hicks can turn that "ship" around and head them in the right direction!

So what options does he have at this point if he wants to play at the next level?
He can play with a 17U team this spring if he has not signed or committed to a college.
Refs
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Posted
I would say most have played high school basketball. If they didn't play high school ball, they've played sometime throughout their school years. Overall I think most referees do a pretty good job. Only a few are real bad, those might be the ref's that didn't play in high school. I don't think a ref should be able to call games for one school over two or three times a season. I have seen some "home cookin" in my lifetime.
