  1. Tough loss for the Tigers, Hearsay, but, games like this will only help you down the road. Good luck against JH next week...That'll definately be a tough one, but, one that'll also only make you better... I highly doubt you'll find too many 2a teams as tough as the ones you're playing outside your class...Gotta love teams that take on these type challenges...

  2. Who said it did? As shocking as it may seem, some people like to do things around town in the spare time away from the games. Does BG really have the same variety of things to do as Louisville?

Awe, shucks, I thank thirs a country store or 2 with a couple of chicker boards..thad be fun, woodnt it.....Like others have said, there's numerous shops, sites, museums, bars, hotels, etc... Plenty of things to do for those who want to do it... Isn't that about what Louisville has or do they have some wonderful attraction that would draw hundreds or thousands of people outside of the above mentioned things?

  3. It does seem the discipline and pride have slipped some under Joe's direction...I can't even imagine players doing some of the things they do nowadays when Jack or Leahy was there...Over the years, you could always bank on Mayfield being a very confident, fundamentally sound, disciplined team that played within the team concept and a passion for the game... Honestly, that just hasn't been the case the past 4 or 5 years and it's frustrating to see... I don't know if it's the coaching style or what, but, when things like this happen, you have to look at who's steering the ship, just comes with the territory... I know the enrollment is down from past yrs and the depth isn't what it used to be, but, they still have plenty of talent there to be a strong 1a team, not that they aren't, but, it's just more the attitudes leave a bit to be desired...

  4. Ft Campbell is definately the class of the region, but, theres about 5 other teams who seem to be on a pretty level playing field with Murray, Caldwell, Trigg, OB Catholic and Mclean Co...Not saying they're all even, just that any of the 5 could beat the other on a given night and it wouldn't be that much of a surprise...

  5. ......I just like the ability to head down to the games each year. I have gone several years with friends and family when HHS was not even in the finals. When it's only 1.5 hrs away, you can do that. When it's 4+ hours away, not worth the trip unless you got a dog in the fight so to speak. I am sure that BG is really nice and I would actually love to go to the Corvetter museum sometime, but not for state football games.

Theres alot of folks west of I-65 that would also make the trip if it wasn't so far, like it is now in Louisville...With that said, I do like the Papa Johns venue but a smaller, more intimate setting would also be cool, as far as being a good HS football atmosphere, something it lacks now...I remember years ago, it rotated between Lex, Richmond, BGreen...Can't remember if Louisville was in the mix back then or not, but, I liked it being at different locations.. Each gave you a little something different..

  6. and Murray will be no picnic in the park by any means...On a positive note, the Wildcats have certainly not played a cupcake schedule as Hopkinsville, Calloway and Hopk Central are all solid football teams... I wouldn't be too shocked to see Hopk Central knock off Calloway and Lone Oak this year...They've got some talent and alot of folks feel this could be one of there best teams in a long time, possibly ever...

  7. All I can say is that was one of the worse 1st halfs you'd ever expect to see from a Mayfield team...They've been outmanned a few times over the years, but, this was just plain poor play, flat, no emotion or energy and Ballard took advantage of every opportunity... On a positive note, they did seem to play with alot of energy and a sense of urgency in the 2nd half... Who knows, this may have been the wakeup call they needed and the kids learned something from it, like they can't just show up and expect that name across there chest to automatically get them a win... Hopefully, this game gets there attention and they start playing hard from the opening kickoff, going forward. These next few weeks will tell alot about there character with some tough opponents in Graves, Crittenden & Tilghman..

  8. It appears theres alot of parity in 2a d1 this year with Murray, Caldwell and Trigg.. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 3 way tie...I was surprised Mclean beat Murray last week and especially the way they dominated on the stat sheet...Looks like d2 could have some parity as well with Ft Campbell, OB Catholic and Mclean...

  9. :thumb: The Taylor Co. win is starting to look even better and Larue looks to be a good team as well.

Here's some food for thought as well (not that I put much stock in it),

Taylor Co. beats Somerset/ Somerset crushes Metcalfe.

Larue stomps Washington/ Washington plays Green tight and only loses by 8.

Glasgow is now 0-3 after losing to Barren Co. 14-13...Something to think about.

Funny you say that because I was sorta thinking along those same lines.. I still feel Green is the team to beat in the district with Monroe a close 2nd.. Glasgow has been dissapointing and Metcalfe looks to be in somewhat of a rebuilding mode....I will say this, if I had a vote, and I don't, but, Monroe would move into the rankings this week in the 6 to 7 range, especially with teams like Trigg Co, Bardstown, Oboro Cath all losing... Not that any of those losses were what I'd call bad losses, it still may open the door...:thumb:

  10. Semper, I remember before the season started, you said this Monroe team would bear watching and how this particular Sr class would be special...My man, you may well be right...I'm starting to believe these guys could be a team to be reckoned with...They've certainly been impressive thus far...Nice call !! I think at this point, at least, they definately deserve some consideration in the rankings, don't you?

  11. When the polls were 1st started a few years ago and there were only 4 classes, it was limited to teams in Region 1, district 1 and district 2...The 1a and 2a teams were in the small school rankings and 3a and 4a were in the Big school rankings...Monroe, Metcalfe and Glasgow were a part of that region...Then, last year when everything went to 6 classes and the region geographics changed, it was decided to keep those 3 teams in the polls and everyone who typically voted, agreed to allow them to stay in the polls...It's not like Green Co was left out, but, rather have never been in the 1st region, even in the old alignment...Same thing was done with Greenwood in the big school poll...

  12. For those who may be interested, just saw the new polls from a Top 100 site and here's where some teams of interest currently stand:

Only 2 Ky teams currently ranked

    Louisville St X - #30

    Louisville Trinity - #74

    Several Ohio teams ranked

Glenville Academy Campus - Cleveland, Oh #21

    Colerain - Cincinnati, Oh #22

    St X - Cincinnati, Oh #24

    Coldwater - Coldwater, Oh #63

    Central - Pickerington, Oh #64

St Ignatius - Cleveland, Oh #69

    Sycamore - Cincinnati, Oh #92

Here's some Tn teams that made the list

    MBA - Nashville, Tn #34

    Maryville - Maryville, Tn #48

    Other teams of interest:

Don Bosco Prep - Ramsey, NJ #3...big game coming up with Cincy St X later in the year...

South Panola - Batesville, Ms #17...Holds nations longest winning streak...

Prattville - Prattville, Al #27...Some who follow the Herby may know of these guys...

Carmel - Carmel, In #83...UK QB recruit Morgan Newtons team...

I've never heard of Glenville Academy Campus, Coldwater or Central and Sycamore's not one of the Cincinnati teams you hear many people talking about...What do some of the NKy folks know about these teams?

  13. The Humane Society would not allow Ft. Campbell to play Colerain. Those who have actually seen Colerain realize the gap between them and nearly every Kentucky team. I do think that Trintiy and X could hang in there, but Ft. Campbell would be totally embarassed. The 3rd. quarter beating that Colerain put on Highlands was painful to watch. The score was not iddicative of the differential between the two teams. When not attending a Beechwood game I root for Highlands so I am not a member of the "ridicule N. Ky football circle". This group equates every Ohio team with St X., Elder and Colerain and inflates their opinion of the remainder of the Cincinnti teams. I do think that Cinci has other good teams, but many of these guys go too far in naming Cincinnati teams that could beat Highlands.

Like you said, the score wasn't indicative of the differencial between the 2 teams, so, like I said in the earlier post, I guess it's what someones perception of competitive is...It's very likely Colerain would dismantle Ft Campbell the same way they did Highlands, but, the Humane Society approves alot worse...My point is, there are other teams who could take a beatin' too and the score may or may not reflect that fact...If Colerain happened to be ahead 42-0 in the 4th qtr against someone and then gave up say a kickoff return for a score, then fumbled on there next possession and that team scored again and then they scored again against the reserves late and it ended 42-21, would you consider that competitive..I wouldn't even if the score looks 1/2 way respectable..Then you could take that same scenario, 42-0 going into the 4th and the other team starts playing there JV and Colerain tacks on 21 more and it ends up 61-0, all of sudden it looks like a serious tail kickin, when in fact both teams got handled very easily...

  14. Do you really think that John Hardin, Ft Campbell, and Bowling Green could play competitively with Colerain?

I guess it's debateable what would be considered competitive...Do I think those teams would beat Colerain? no...Do I think they could play just as competitive(if that's what you'd call it) as Highlands did...Possibly...I think Trinity is as strong and deep as Colerain is this year and BG played as well against them as FtH did against Colerain and I think JHardin is as strong, if not better, than BG this year, so, it's not a stretch...Ft Campbell is a little stretch, I admit, but, they've certainly got there share of talented players that'll play at the next level, so, for a half, possibly so...

  15. Highlands #7???? They are much better than that. No team in KY would have beaten Colerain, much less compete for a half without their best player.

Not so sure about that...I'd think T & X would likely beat Colerain this year and teams like Male & Manual could at least play as competitive and probably J.Hardin, Ft Campbell & BGreen could, as well...Of course, we'll never know because they won't play them, so, it's just speculation either way...
