Rams will start on defense.

Don't know how much I can keep up now but i'll try to update on scores. Should anyone want to take over, please do so :thumb:

I am just now getting online due to health problems this weekend. A person knows I feel terrible when I didn't even get a chance to listen to the game at all.
As for what I thought might be a game ended up not. I talked to a couple of people that shoot straight, tell it like it is and what I was fearing about this years Rams showed itself. Raceland has very little running game if any. We do have some experience plus speed at the receiving positions but if the QB doesn't have time to get the ball to them it matters nothing. Russell is very good on both lines and as all should know, that determines W / L in most if not all games regardless of what team it is. Russell dominated both O and D line play, blowing the Rams completely off the ball. Raceland with little to no running game at all gave Russell the advantage of keying on rushing Heighton along with providing more emphasis on our Rams receivers. Russell was very well prepared and it showed. Russell is a very good team and imo may make a decent run in their playoffs. Kudos to the Red Devils players and their fans :thumb:, you were definitely the better team last night.
Back to our guys at Raceland. With little game experience, the Rams are going to go thru some growing pains this season and it started with this one. A Sr. stacked backfield of Lacks, Adkins and Atkins (as well as him at WR and at DB) from last season is obviously sorely missed. Those rb's chewed up yards and also provided a lot of blocking for the other as well along with a very strong, experienced line. Hopefully coach Sammons and staff will make adjustments needed without a very good, experienced Hieghton at QB. Hopefully this team will pull together, get blocking schemes worked out and our promising yet young qb will pick things up along with the rest of this team and will be a better football team by when it matters most …… district time. I think that they will do just that.
No whining or excuses here in Ramblerville, we got butts whipped by a better football team … end of story.
Prayers go out for Hieghton on recovering from what I am hearing is a pretty significant injury. Possible cracked / broken collar bone, no official word until all test are ran and results back.

Russell will probably have some fans / alumni in that are usually not there for a lot of their games. They will be there to celebrate their past stars, teams, and the Russell football tradition. With the exception of maybe the Ashland game (if / when the years it is at Russell)
Ram Players …. I don't know you feel about being the "chosen sacrifice / team to beat" for a Russell HOF celebration, but I know how it would make me along with a lot of the ones I went to school with feel …. would be time for some " Ram Football Pride" ! I'll just leave it at that for you guys, the Raceland team to think about. …….

I am concerned on Raceland's line. They held their own vs. GCHS last week but had trouble at times, GC's line (O' line) was big and much improved. I like the Raceland receiving crew along with the Rams QB. This, imo will be Russell's best chance to get a W over Raceland in quite a while. I think that T.J. (coach Maynard) feels that he has a pretty good team. With it being the Russell H.O.F. game, I'll give the Red Devils a slight edge.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the GC kids that were injured. A RB (Farrow, i believe was the name) that appeared to be a knee along with the other ( I didn't get the name or number) that seemed to be a head or neck type of injury, the emt's worked with for quite a while before getting him in the ambulance.

I have heard it said that a team improves more from week one to week two. I sure hope that is right bc Raceland made one mistake after another tonight. Mental, physical and any other type that can be made. I will also say that I greatly underestimated GC. After their fine RB went out early with an injury, QB Sammons played a great game and kept his team close … too close for my orange and black blood. Several passes were dropped. That, combined with the Rams mistakes and it may had been a different story tonight. GC's O and D lines were very impressive along with their backfield. GC will have a .very good season.
Raceland may be good by district play but is jmo tonight showed their lack of game experience.. A lot of those kids on the O and D line along w / the RB's were back ups with the last two Ram teams.
Needless to say, the Rams will have to step it up next week or it will be a very embarrassing night in Ramblerville.

Congrats to Russell on the win.
-
There's no doubt about the qb's arm at GC, accurate and can throw it long. I've counted about 6 - 7 drops by GC receivers.
-
Raceland has lost an awful lot from last years team, on the lines as well as their entire backfield minus the QB. Heighton is one of the top qb's in the area and will have to lead. Next man up as far as the backs and lines on both sides of the ball.
GO RAMS …

Thank you Ram, it's been a rough go. Chemo around 3 weeks ago followed by the loss / deaths of first, my best friend of 50yrs, followed by my mother's passing last week. He's had some obstacles in recent months. Hopefully, he will be here soon to give his thoughts. -

@oldrambler, we're waiting for you to get this thread rolling like only you can.
Here I is, lol. I've had a rough time lately. My mother passed away last Friday, and that followed the loss / death of my best friend the week before. BGP members may remember him as "C'villecat" from several years ago, his name was Keith Lacks.
Anyway … I may not be posting as much as before, this M.S. has worsened, fine motor skills (typing, writing, etc.) has declined. I know that's tmi but I am here, for now. :thumb:

imo keys to this one for the Rams thus far has been Defense.
Row has an avg. of 350yds. per game this season. So far tonight, Raceland has held the Vikings to 59. Also, the Rams Soph. qb C. Hughes has looked much improved from being thrown into action after experienced qb S. Heighton injured last week.
