  1. Once a FT shooter receives the ball from the official, NO timeouts can be called by either team until the shot has been taken!

As for the throw in situation, the team that has possession of the ball is the only team at that point that can call a timeout once the official hands the ball to the player throwing the ball in bounds!

I am not disputing your answer to the second question because frankly I am not sure. But if this is true then how can a team get a timeout after they have a made basket and the other team jumps out of bounds to inbound the ball?

  2. You are right, some records do not indicate that some of the loses were when they had players out because of injuries.

Much like GRC's record right GS. Tournament time may be the first time all season that GRC has been at full strength all season. Jones had been recovering from his broken arm suffered in football season for a lot of the year, Stenzel went out with an ankle injury (I think it was an ankle) for a few games, and Knowles has served a few team suspensions over the course of the season. GRC will be tough to be at full strength, I don't care who they are playing.

  3. Yes, he got in for a few minutes. Mason rarely plays anyone that young on varsity but Miller is a rare exception.

I was at this game and being from the 10th region I already knew all about Miller. At the time I wasn't sure about how he would handle the pressure of the championship game, then he came in and hit a three right off the bat, I had no more questions after that.

  4. I just don't buy the arguement it's OK to class football into four classes, then expand it to six while at the same time say Basketball doesn't need to be classed.

It is a little easier to fill a basketball roster at a smaller school than it is a football roster. Their are a lot more positions to fill in football that require a lot of different skills. The bigger schools can have 22 different kids that don't have to play both offense and defense in the same school. 4A schools may have 60 or 70 kids come out and they can fill all the positions individually. 1A schools may only have 20 kids come out so they have to play their kids on both side of the ball. This makes a single class in football totally uneven. All it takes in basketball is 8. Only 5 can play at a time and both teams play the same kids on offense and defense. The point that I'm getting at is that classifying football is not a reason to justify classifying basketball!!!!

  5. This is ridiculous. Corbin was last at the Sweet Sixteen as recently as 2005, has made trip upon trip over the years, and came within a bucket of going this year.

It's not some impossible dream. Going into next year, it's quite probable that South will be watching the Hounds instead.

People like you want to bust the trophies up into a million pieces and expect the "champions" to feel special. Folks in places like Corbin would be insulted at the prospect.

I totally agree with you here. It is almost like people say it is too hard to get to the Sweet Sixteen so the KHSAA should make it easier for us. This takes every thing that is special about Kentucky Basketball and shatters it. I have been at schools that have had teams make runs to the All "A" finals and to the Sweet Sixteen. There were more people in Rupp to watch these boys play in the 1st round of the Sweet Sixteen than their were at the All "A" State Championship. This shows the level of importance people in Kentucky place on the Sweet Sixteen!!!

  6. A standing ovation in church. That is amazing and gives you chill bumps just reading about it. Congrats to the Lions. This team will be adopted very quickly by the fans in Rupp especially if they can get by Shelby Valley!!

This is what March is all about in Kentucky!!!:dancingpa

  7. I noticed at the 54th district tournament that the trophies look very cheap. Funny thing is that the individual trophies that the kids received were as tall as the championship trophies. In all honesty, I believe at decent woodshop class could come up with something as nice.

I don't even think it would have to be a decent woodshop class. All the new ones are is 4 small pieces of wood glued together. I would trust the woodshop class to come up with something better than what the KHSAA came up with.

  8. I agree with this post, bricklayer.

The 14th rotates the tournament between 6 sites and it has worked out fairly well with a few exceptions. Knott Central seats 5,000 (300 seats less than Mason's Fieldhouse, so they're comparable in size), but the 14th decided many years ago to use a rotation system. We have never considered using only one school, to my knowledge. My only disagreement with our present plan is I feel a facility should be able to seat at least 3,500, and two of our gyms in the rotation seat less than 3,000.

My proposal for the 14th Policy Board when they are updating and discussing the rotation in the future is:

    (1) Demand that a facility has to seat at least 3,500 in order to host the regional tournament.

    (2) Change the rotation from a 6 year plan to a 4 year plan, and base it on allowing at least one of the schools in each district to host the tournament (if they can meet the 3,500 seating guideline that I have suggested). When it is each district's turn to host, the member schools of that particular district will vote where they want it held in their district. This way, all four districts and all sections of the region will have the tournament in a four year plan.

The four choices in the 14th would more than likely be: 53rd Knott Central, 54th Perry Central, 55th Breathitt County, and 56th Powell County. It's fair, and all sections of the region is covered.

I agree with this. There has to be some kind of minimum seatin to host a regional tournament. But there also must be some sort of rotation like you said. The 14th would have trouble with the 3500 minimum because I am pretty sure Breathitt doesn't seat that any more since the renovations 10 or 12 years ago (could be wrong) and I don't know any numbers at Powell but that seems a little generous. I definately agree with your ideas. Any type of rotation is an improvement on no rotation IMO!!!

  9. Thanks BGGreen. Math was usually nap time for me.

(Not really I had great teachers in school. But even great teachers have trouble getting thru to some like me.)

I have stated that it is an advantage playing at home but as URIT said it does not guarantee a win.

    It just improves odds.:thumb:

Tournament time is not a time to be improving odds for the same team year in and year out.

  10. I had an interesting conversation this weekend regarding this topic, and the prevailing opinion was that its a sizable advantage to the home teams for a variety of reasons. Someone pointed out however, that for the most part few regional games are played at a participating team's home court in Ohio?? Not sure if this is accurate, but would be an interesting comparison if true? It does seem the Cincy teams are always heading to Dayton or Columbus to play regional games?? Thoughts??

If it meant traveling to get to a neutral site I would be all for it. If the 16th region wasn't played at MSU I think it would be logical and just as convenient geographically than NKU.

  11. I was most impressed how after the game each side supported and clapped while the others received their hardware. Nice class and sportsmanship on both sides.

Maybe the fans have caught on to what the khsaa has been emphasizing for 2 years??

I also noticed this. Montgomery Co.'s fans gave Mason's girls a standing ovation as they recieved their trophies and Mason returned the gesture as Montgomery recieved theres. I think this was a good crowd showing their appreciation for great basketball. I'm not sure how much the tickets were but it had to be a bargain for this game the way it played it, amazing to say the least. Both teams played their hearts out and everyone of those girls deserved the ovations that they recieved win or lose.
