  1. Do you really believe that fans and students from all over the commonwealth would rush to Rupp to attend ?

Never said it would but it could provide some entertainment in between sessions for those that do attend and stay. Provide a better experience to keep families coming back like they used to. When I attended the final four in Atlanta thats were my family stayed most of the time. I just think the sweet 16 is facing competition for fans and its seems to be losing. Whats your plan or you just want it as is? At least one year my row won an ice cream. Couldnt wait to go back and see if I could win again the next year

  2. The committee:

KHSAA commisioner in charge of basketball

    KABC board member

    Jason Frakes

    Mike Fields

Rick Bolus(a lot would be against Bolus) or maybe JR Vanhoose

Writer from the North, West, East, and Mountain areas. I dont know who covers those areas.

    LIT rankings

    Cantrell rankings

    AP rankings

Look Test - personally think this is what NCAA uses any way.

If a bunch of old AD’s that we all know dont evaluate teams can seed 64 teams in a day, a 16 team hs tournament would be easy.

  3. Seed it Like the NCAA to create upsets and if not better matchups from 2nd rd. on. Eliminate the 30 minutes in between games. Install a practice floor to warm up in and put 15 minutes on the clock. I would do this after round 1. The teams deserve their full time for the first rd excitement/experience. If its a bad game late, lots of fans leave including me to watch NCAAA games. Move the tournament to the YUM Center at least once every three or four years (No Rotating). Get new ideas and maybe new fans at another venue who have never gone. Maybe they will enjoy the experience and want to go to Lexington to watch the following year. Yum Center has practice facilities in it. Maybe this forces Lexington to upgrade the area. Terrible restaurant selections around RUPP. Create something for fans/students in Rupp in between sessions. There is nothing but a bad overpriced food court and expensive shops down stairs. Put some portable goals up and have shooting contest between schools. Come up with something to entertain the kids. Work with participating schools with more money. Teams lose money going to the state. The only way students are going to come is with a bus ride. May not work and the ideas are up for debate. I would just like to see changes at least tried. Society is changing and the tournament needs to change to compete for the fans. I started following KY High School Sports on Twitter. 70's crowds in Louisville were packed. Wasn't as much competition then but there is now.

  4. Everyone wants to improve the state tournament but no one wants to change anything. Keep hanging on to old traditions and the Greatest show on Earth will continue on its path as the "Most boring show on Earth." I've been to every tournament since 1981. I go cause its the state tournament and spend time with friends now more than the games. I watch the Marquee games and semis/finals. Most other games are not any good so I leave to watch March Madness. I hate that because I have witnessed too many great games over the years.

  5. Yes, it will take a great run. Starting with districts you likely need to come out a #1 seed. That means two wins and then 3 in a row at regionals. So a team most likely must put 5 wins in a row together. That narrows the field somewhat. In those Top 9 (including Iroquois) any team could beat any of the other 8 on a given night. But to put a string of 5 wins together narrows the group capable of going all the way. That is probably 4-5 teams still, but I think FC, Doss, and Butler could all do it for sure. The key is who peaks at the right time and who can get healthy at the right time.

Districts will be huge. One of Butler, Doss, and Desales will not even be in the region. Same goes for 21st district with Fairdale, Valley, and PRP. Coachlee you do a great job on your coverage of the 6th region

  6. The red book does make a difference. A room in the Hyatt is around $1200, plus meals, and coaches no longer get professional days off. There are cheaper hotels but you have to either take a cab or pay to park each day. Coaches like being at the Hyatt. Would love to see less time in between games. Takes over 30 minutes to start the 2nd game of a session. Put an alternate floor underneath and let teams warmup there at least for 2nd rd games. Put 15 minutes on the clock and play. A lot of people and coaches leave especially for the late games. The KHSAA needs to do a better job of hospitality for coaches. Chips, popcorn , and cokes don't cut it. The other improvement which will never happen is this tournament needs to be seeded. Lets be honest there are teams that make it that are not very good. Getting to the sweet Sixteen is enough for them. However, most do not want to watch two bad teams matched up and have a heavy favorite playing a bad team in the second round. Just my thoughts.

  7. Big district win for the Dogs and on the road is very impressive given the ceremony for Coach Mabrey. District 21 is a very hard district this year in particular. Getting the Top seed is big as the matchup between #2 & #3 seeds will be a season ending game for somebody who does not win that game. With Fairdale and Valley at 2-0 each, their game should determine the #1 seed, but I don't see them scheduled to play. How will they determine the #1 seed @dawgs83?

The 6th is so wide open this year with about 7-8 teams capable of getting hot and making a run in the regional championship.

Fairdale plays Valley at Fairdale on Feb. 6. Another team playing really well is Desales
