Either Ashland really had an off night or they are not the team many rankings have held them out to be.
-
Sounds REAL exciting. Glad I had something else to do.

Well thought out prediction, Gooch.

We can play "what ifs" on here all day. the bottom line is that Elliott County is a very good team and, hopefully they will get to play some of these other good teams at tournament time. I don't think anyone from the Elliott County team is already counting their chickens. Ashland, Rose Hill, Fairview, East Carter and others will not be easy games later in the year, and Elliott is well aware of that.
-
How can you say it is kids with good hand eye coordination when the opposing teams have bruises up and down there arms the next day?
What a joke!:laugh::laugh: Elliott is leaving bruises on OTHER teams. Come on now. I guess I should be surprised it took this long for some people to start making poor excuses for losing to little old Elliott County.
-
East will keep it closer than anyone from the 16th Region has so far. Their guard play and ball handling is much better than Boyd County, Raceland or Morgan County. Elliott will pull away and win by 20+...and this junk about refs favoring Elliott County and Rick Mays...what a joke. Play the game the way it is called and quit making excuses.
-
Wonder how much Tackett had to enjoy beating west carter like that. They let a pretty good coach get away.
-
Coach Hicks will do many things that amaze you!
-
I continue to be amazed at how the 16th region fans let their dislike for Rose Hill cloud their vision. This outcome was inevitable.
Not all of us missed it Don Corleone;)
-
I am sure all these comments are probably better than the game. Will Menifee ever get straightened out?
-
East Carter is not a surprise. They are clearly a top 5 team in the region and will beat a lot of teams.
-
This Elliott Co team will not compete for a state championship this year or next. Maybe get to the first round of state but that will be it.
I believe they made it to the 2nd round last year.
 I'm not even ready to say they will get out of the region this early in the season, but I'm not going to decide where the season will end this early either. This is a solid TEAM, but I completely agree Mays needs to use his bench a little more effectively. Morgan was a starter last year and Maynard can give solid minutes. He has always had a problem going to his bench and he may need to rethink that strategy. As the season wears on, a little rest wouldn't hurt some of the starters, especially when you consider the number of games they play year around.
-
Substitutions have always been a problem with Mays. The Friday night game coupled with the bus ride and Christian County's willingness to run in fresh players almost cost Elliott County. However, they come away with a good win against a solid opponent. Morgan was good enough to start in the State Tournament run last year. They should feel more comfortable letting him and Maynard rest some of the starters a little.

Good to see a third Royal score a little. That may bode well for play inside the region.

I am not going to disrespect thisman but I am wondering were he got his nickname from because I cant remember the last time Lewis was a conternder come March.
Show up at the District and Regional Tournaments. He has shown an uncanny ability to take teams with very little talent and win tournament games. no, he hasn't won the Region, but he has made some decent post season runs with teams that should not have made it past the 1st round, if they got to the Regional at all. I question whether some of the "name" coaches could have gotten as far with the same level of talent available.
-
Hard to debate that. At this time they are clearly the class of the region.
That says more than you. It is fun to be at the top, but it really means nothing "at this time of the year." The good thing is that the players at Elliott County are well aware of that and should continue to play hard no matter who the opponent.
-
There has been noone close to Mayo even if you just count the two years he was here. An unbelievable talent!
-
Does he still act as...crazy... on the bench as he did at Greenup? I certainly hope not.
-
Good outside shot and understands the game. His lack of quickness cuts down on playing time. Very valuable player to give the starters a rest and he can tear a zone all to pieces when he is on.
-
It would be interesting to see what Hampton could do if he had the talent to work with that Biggs and some others have. This is no knock on Biggs. He is also an excellent coach, but talent seems to have a lot to do with coaching. People got this board and ridiculed Mays forever. Now he is a good coach. Nothing changed about his style. He just has talent to work with.
-
As I posted earlier, Jackson will tear up Boyd's guards. The Faulkners, C. Knipp and Ferguson all had a field day with them and Jackson will too.
-
If Mayo had played at Ashland, Boyd Co or Fairview, this wouldn't even be a debate.
To consider that the kid did it as a 7th and 8th grader is mind boggling.

East by double digits.

I really doubt there was any intentional running up of the score, but looking back on some of the scores teams used to regularly lay on the Elliott County girls, I can't blame them. It is very refreshing to see this team playing good fundemental basketball, receiving good coaching and winning some games.

Good to see East bounce back in a big way after the Elliott County game.
