My point is this Apex. SL is a good program and I have a lot of respect for coach Irwin.I was stating if you looked at the schools who has moved into 4A or let's say back and forth(teams that have been on the bubble you will find that Whitley has been successful. You were very quick to throw out SL . I was just wondering about the rest.Teams will go through cycles of players.You musty keep a good talent pool coming ,that is the coaches resposibility, but a small 4a school sometimes will have bumps in the road.The cycle is getting ready to turn at Whitley because of the players that are returning, plus SL lost 18 seniors grc 17 seniors mad. cent 20 seniorsThat is my point APex. Whitley would have competed for the district title next year and they ( administration) knew it.

What about the rest.I think and I am not for sure , but Whitleys record vs SL is either 7-3 or 6-3. I know that they have lost the last three.

I agree with you on both post 4 chs.............Apex, could you give us # on other area teams that have been on the 4a level. Such as Perry Central , Clay Co. Nl and Sl even though they have always been 4A . I am curious what there # look like, compared to Whitley

Ram Man, I totally agree with you. I think that Campbell was a victim of his own success in a lot of ways.That is a very tight nit group down there and Campbell made it that way. I have had several of his former players tell me that he stays in contact with them and tries to help them any way that he can. Coaching isn't always x's and o's.I had also heard that the new coach was going around as much as 7 months ago telling everybody that he would be the new coach at Whitley. That is flat out wrong.

Good point Apex, Whitley fans want a winner and deserve so. Have you looked at 4A football. This is a different league. Campbell was a winner and times change. Gentry is goi ng into a gold mine. Campbell was agood football coach, but the main thing is he loved those kids

Just wondering 4chs...........i think it is great, but why do have to support both now.

Adams has made the remarks that he would entertain offers from area schools, but i doubt seriously that he would consider Corbin.Esidro will probably stay on , but i wouldn't doubt if he didn't coach after next season.If Williamsburg could hire him and it not be a lateral move I believe that he would go in a heart beat.

Sorry IronMan I misundersttod. I think that 4chs made some good comments. I wish Whitley and there assistants well this coming season.Campbell has made the comment that this will or should I say would have been a very good year.

IronMan, we are glad that you love it.I think that you missed the purpose of the thread. We were on a different subject, but since that you have brought it up. As far as the Whitley's 2 best players in the last 20 years (I think not) They would have been good players no doubt. As far as the Campbell situation goes. Anybody with any integrity would not say that love seeing a coach getting fired, or for that matter anybody losing there job.

As far as credentials I don't know, but I heard that he was going to be the long-snap coach.

Footballfever.....I have heard the same thing Gibbs. O-Line coach (great credentials....1st team All- American,Wofford College ).Chuck Davis ....Def. Line......Cumberland College.My question is this .......how could you let a Cotton Adams go. That man has forgot more football than anybody out there will ever know. Esidro is thinking about coaching, but hasn't made his mind up. Still some good young assisants like Mckiddy,Huddleston Singleton and Hayes that are unaccounted for. I heard that Davisd Lennon would be leaving the radio booth for the side-lines this season. Just a rumor.

Well stated again. From what I have heard ,Campbell has said that he thinks he let to many people insidethe colonel walls the last couple of years that led to his demize.I heard this from assistants who are close to the situation that feel the same way. (Live and Learn).The system will not look bad in this situation.You can bank on that.

I was just stating what I had heard from reliable sources. Top Gun stated that a change needed to be made.Maybe he was right. I think Whitley will be a strong team next year.TopGun must be really close to the program to make a statement like that.I think that mastermind made the best statement of all.

Absolutely Top Gun I agree with you 100%. I thought that Whitley was a little sluggish at times this year. I think that Gentry will step it up a notch.Just like Mastermind stated that Cecil could coach them and win 7. We will give Gentry 8 wins.Whitley has been a pretty solid team in the mountains for some time, but they have slacked off the last few years. This new coach Gentry must be the real deal . He has a good resume. I have also heard that Campbell is the full time Ad at Whiley County.........Congrats to him.

I agree mastermind with everything that you have said. It is a shame that Campbell didn't get to go out on his own terms, but not many coaches do. I noticed that Gentry only had 1 year of head coaching experience and that he went 7-3 (pretty good) I wonder how come he wasn't hired back or maybe he moved into a better position.The paper really didn't say. I have also heard that Larry "cotton" Adams will be entertaining offers from area schools.Has anybody else heard the same. I think that the head assisant (al esidro) is considering not coaching for the colonels next year. Any truth to that rumor. Thunderstruck or Mexican Bob should know what is going on. They have known what has been going on for a long time.

Abso;utely 4chs..................It seems to me from what I have heard and read that they wil make this new coach succeed the 1st year, so the higher -ups don't look bad.

Les, Thanks for the reply, but that was really not the point that I was trying to make. The point is this, small 4A schools don't have any chance ,you are exactly right.Whitley will be back on track ,because the talent level will be on the rise. The administration knew that this was intact.whitley lost 7 seniors and dressed 54 players. There will be 25 fresman come out. You do the math. .....Gentry will look good

I have sat back and listened the last month to the noise that has been made about the coaching change at whitley co. Whether the change was right or wrong isn't the issue.Whitley co. will win a minimum of 8 football games next year. 1.they have 16 seniors returning 2.sl...lost 18 srs 3.grc lost 17 srs. 4.madison central lost 21 seniors. The cycle has turned and whitley will be good. As far as the coaching change. I have heard that it was politically motivated and that there was alot of backstabbing going on from people very close to Campbell..I also heard that coach Larry "cotton " Adams got up and walked out in a meeting between the new coach and himself.What a shame.He is a great person and a very good football coach.The new coach has walked into a good situation with not alot to fix.
