  1. I am sure all these comments are probably better than the game. Will Menifee ever get straightened out?

All kidding aside, Menifee was reasonably competetive for a good part of the first half, but then just kind of faded away. They don't seem to have a lot of physical strength. I havrealways wondered why they have not been more consistently competetive with teams like Lee, Wolfe and Owsley down through the years, as they are a similiarly sized and situated school.

  2. I understand Lee played every player on the team, and that Riverside couldn't get anybody out, and that the game stopped after 3 innnings. Lee played 6th and 7th graders. If you hit easy fly balls that the other team can't catch, what do you do? Stop running until the ball finally gets to first for a force out?

Should Lee's 6th graders deliberately swing and miss? Double up on the bases for outs? Call in the Little Leaguers?

Lee only played Riverside because of the All A. If they can't compete at that level, maybe they should reconsider entering the tournament.

  3. I think the tournament went very smoothly. Peggy Edwards and Jerry McIntosh did an excellent job. The fans were enthusiastic, yet were well behaved. I know there was some talk that Owsley's gym was too small, but the six night format adequately dealt with that problem. I think the 56th District seeding teams, and rotating the tournament on a yearly basis is the only way to stage the tournament, and it continues to work very well.

  4. I am truly concerned about the behavior I see at some games. I was at the 56th district game -Powell vs. Estill- and some young Estill County fans were making very crude gestures toward Powell County fans. The Estill County principal saw it, and put an IMMEDIATE end to it. I don't know what he said, but to his absolute credit, he stopped it cold. These are games. Enjoy them. Part of the fun is supporting one team over the other, but some of the the people in the stands need to learn that there is no substitute for sportsmanship and good taste.

  5. Coach Wright needs to step back, take a deep breath, recognize that the fact that he has been asked to reconsider is a good thing, (apparantly those in charge recognize he is a talented young coach), realize that in his chosen profession, (like most), there are times when you will be criticized, (sometimes wrongly, sometimes not), chalk up disappointments like Tuesday night in the lessons learned column, and then decide what he wants to do. If he still wants to quit, fine. That's his business. But I hope he doesn't make a rash decision he regrets later.

  6. Good summary; hardly an impressive resume' for the the bobcats over the last 4 years. I really thought thewy would have greater success. Does anyone know what happened to them this year? Was it internal strife? They seemed lifeless to me.

There was no internal strife that I am aware of. At home, this team could, and did, hang with anybody. Sometimes, actually a lot of times, when on the road, they just didn't seem real interested, especially after the All A Regional last year.

  7. Like the good old days with Moose. Great win you beat a really good team in Lee i was not there just hope ever thing went well and a good clean hard fought game There has been some great games between Lee and Owsley and seems like ever one gets along good. Was it a good clean played game?

This is probably one of the most unusual big rivalry you will ever see. The game is almost always fought tooth and nail, and the fans are very passionate in their particular rooting interest. However, there is never any trouble, no hard feelings among fans or players. I'll bet almost every Lee County fan will tell you that they are for Owsley from here on out. Go Owls!

  8. Who could have handled the crowds from last year's semis and finals other than KCC?

My biggest problem at most of the sites mentioned is parking. KCC is a really good place to watch a game, in my opinion the best of any place mentioned, but getting in and out was a nightmare last year, with cars literally parked on the travelled part of the road down past the school. I think that split sessions would only make it worse, as people leaving the first game would interfere with those coming to the second game.

The 56th is only going to have one game a night, with boys and girls tournament over six days, to deal with these problems.

  9. You'd include Hazard over Powell County when Powell's gym seats 1000 more than Hazard's.

    Plus, I suppose 3 of the region's districts should be included....but the 56th doesn't matter.

Powell County is second only to PCC as far as overall facilities go. KCC has excellent building, but parking is terrible. Hazard doesn't compare to either, and truth be told, Estill is better. What about Leslie County? Region was there a couple of times and I heard no complaints. And why is it a problem for folks in Hazard, Hindman and Whitesburg to travel to Stanton, but not for those of us in Beattyville, Booneville, Stanton and Irvine to go to Hazard, Hindman or Whitesburg? The region should be at Powell County once every four years.

  10. I heard Coach Creech on WCBJ after the game, and he said he wished Wolves were still in 56th. So do I. Historically it is where they belong. They have very similiar athletic programs to Lee and Owsley especially, and hot rivalry with Powell. I don't particularly want Estill to move out, as they have really made District competitive in both basketball and baseball, but I sure would like to see Wolfe come back.

Lee was real sharp last night. Good to see at tournament time. Landon Johnson really played well.

  11. We'll accept ya'll in Owsley County Lightning.:thumb: Heck, you're only 18 miles away. Gary Mays' world famous barber shop in Booneville claims half his business is from Buckhorn. He says he learns his best jokes from Buckhornites.:D

Its no doggone wonder all you Owsley Countians look so good with stylists Gary Mays and Bill Hall on the job. Not to mention, my personal hair guru, Poodle Barrett is a native Boonevillian as well.

  12. Some times a good fundamental coach can take you a long way. By the way you don't beat Hazard at Hazard by just showing up, someone had to prepare for those games. Granted Breathitt hasn't played a power schedule they have still won ball games. Based on your comment I would hope that Breathitt mops the coliseum with Lee Co. Geez what about worst coaching staff in the state.

I don't think Btownfanatic is a Lee County fan. He certainly needs to relax.

I mean Breathitt is what, 16-2? Beat Hazard at Hazard? Somebody knows how to do something, evidently.
