Not only do they play year round, but their players began playing in 3rd grade, while at Catholic grade schools. It's hard to compete against that with players who begin playing at the high school level with minimal to moderate experience.
Who's fault is that?
Can public school children not play on the local Catholic school team? I played soccer at St. Agnes (CovCath feeder), and we had kids on our team from Beechwood Grade School and another local public school.

9th.
Okay I get it now, I couldn't figure out the computer rankings for a while.
So that would average them in at about 12 or so.
-
If they win out, they'll be there in the computers. It's the human polls...
In BCS, the human polls have them at 13 and 14 right now I think, and I'm not sure about the computers.
-
There's a difference between 'deserves a NT appearance' and having a 'chance at a NT appearance.'
Louisville started high enough in the polls to make the title game.
Rutgers, no matter who they play, didn't.
That's what I was saying was that the computers are flawed in this manor. Rutgers started out not on the radar, which kills their chances of any big bowl.
-
My problem with Florida is that they are strictly the benficiaries of turnovers in 2-3 of their victories....while that's all fine and dandy, the one game where that truly didn't happen (Auburn) they got beat by double digits......what if that happens again?
You mean like the other team handed them the ball? Or Florida went out and made plays to take it away.
Turnovers are part of the game, just look at the WVU UL game. WVU clearly could not hold on to the ball (probably could not see very well
), something like 8+ fumbles that I saw, and TOs went in UL's favor.
-
Also, IF UL goes undefeated, people say they have a great chance of making the NT, but if Rutgers does the same, with a similar schedule... then they have no chance?
I don't think that Rutger's SOS warrants a NT appearance, which shows you what I feel about UL's chance at a NT appearance.
-
I have felt this way for a while now. I realize this will paint me as a U of L homer, but I can see Louisville blowing out Rutgers, yet everyone claiming it doesn't matter because Rutgers wasn't as good as they thought.
Then I'll go ahead and say it now:
Rutgers is not as good as people say. Good team - yes, but the schedule is misleading.
Louisville's schedule is also very very questionable of a #3 ranking. I've already had my say about my feelings on UL's ranking in relation to their SOS, outside of WVU, who IMO is a 15-20 team at best.
UL - 38
Rutgers - 24
-
Definitely a possibility...
I really think the best game in there would be the Auburn/Notre Dame game.
Offense vs. Defense.
-
That was the position of the publics from the very beginning. The trend over the last 10 years or so. Somewhere there is a thread in this forum that lists the titles over the last 10 years and they are as tilted in the privates favor as your stats are tilted in the publics favor.
I gave the overall stats which are heavily in favor of the publics, but at the end of my first post, I talked about the trend of the last decade or so.
-
Mine look like this after the weekend:
1. Ohio State
2. Michigan
3. Florida
4a. Texas
4b. Louisville (Still not convinced with the SOS, but seeing them against WVU put away a lot of doubt in my mind that they are a contender)
6. Auburn
7. USC
8. Notre Dame
9. California
10. West Virginia (too one-demensional to move far)
Just out:
LSU
Tennessee
Arkansas
Wisconsin

Cinderella season for Ryle. They pulled out a lot of huge wins over top ranked teams (St. Henry and Trinity along with GRC), but didn't get the big one. Still a good season.
Congrats to both teams and especially BG for finally getting over the hump. They've had a lot of good seasons including my only trip to Gtown as a sophomore when I first saw them.
Job well done to both programs.

Thank you on the urban/rural comment.
Crossbar on your basketball comments
Basketball
Championships
Public - 83
Private - 5
Teams in the finals
Public - 165
Private - 11
24 straight, and 31 out of 32 finals from 1968 to 1999 involved 2 public school teams. No final has ever featured 2 private schools.
I will assume that you, for some reason, felt the need to not include girls basketball in your comments? If you did, than these are inaccurate as Sacred Heart and Lex Cath met, I believe in back to back years in 03 and 04 (or somewhere around there). Also, I think privates have won 6 out of the last 7 girls state titles.
Girl's basketball only confirms my arguement.
Public - 35
Private - 8
The total was 34-2 in 2000, and since then 6 out of 7 have been private. Note that only 3 privates have won (Mercy, Sacred Heart, and LexCath).
As I said before, it is the recent success of private schools that have publics worried.

I think Austin Hill lastyears POY might have something to say about that.
Wasn't POY Romes or Vories last year...

That stadium looks pretty cool. I've only been to WKU once, and I'm assuming the larger 2-tier stands are the existing ones, and the other ones with the building and larger press box will be the new stands?
-
Did Holmes choose to enter the Gaslight Tourny instead of the Bluegrass Buckeye Classic?
Or does Holmes not usually play in that... for some reason I thought they did.
-
Pop should be hearing from more and more big schools pretty soon I'd imagine. Far and away the best of the 3 consecutive (potentially) D1 kickers at CCH.
-
I'd say everyone's road is just about as equally hard.
Bell
Rock
CCH
HHS
LexCath
JC
BG
Anyone could play anyone else, the winner will definitely be deserving.
-
Coincidentally.... I looked up Boise State as well just for fun.
Sac St was not listed as a D1 team, but here is the remainder:
Oregon State - 30 (42-14 win)
Wyoming - 67
Hawaii - 34 (41-34 win)
Utah - 64
La Tech - 99
New Mexico State - 111
Idaho - 94
Average -- 71.2, also while having 2 teams ranked higher than UL's highest to this point.
1.3 better than UL's. Granted that UL plays #2 and #12 and Boise St will play #110, #62, #109, and #50 upcoming. This was just meant to shed some light on Boise State's seemingly terrible scheduling.
-
And for the record, I am not a hater of UL. I go to college in Louisville and I enjoy the games, I am simply a hater of hype.
-
I couldn't disagree more. I've seen ALL of Florida's games and all but Syracuse and Temple of the UL games. I think the Cards can beat the Gators. With or without Brohm. No doubt in my mind.
Papa Johns Stadium should be renamed The Looney Bin.
And as for another post, it was said that Florida is overrated and that they have beaten overrated competition. I honestly could not believe that there was not a response to that.
I could not find a week by week Sportsline 119, but these are the current standings for UL's oponents right now of 119 teams.
Here you go RedRowdyRam:
UK - 70
Temple - 113
Miami (FL) - 41
Kansas St. - 52
MTSU - 80
Cincinnati - 71
Syracuse - 81
Average - 72.5
Florida's:
So. Miss - 58
Central Florida - 100
Tennessee - 8
UK - 70
Alabama - 38
LSU - 16
Auburn - 6
Georgia - 31
Average: 40.8
UL's best opponent to this date is ranked 41, while Florida's is 6. And not to mention they also have 2 other top 20 teams. Florida has 5 opponents ranked higher than UL's highest.
Florida has more than proven themselves while UL is sitting in the shadows of a laughable schedule and taking the credit for being undefeated.
Now I will finish off with this. UL will be playing the #2 and #12 team according to the SL 119, but to this point UL has done little more than what any team ranked from 30-50 could do with the same schedule.
-
Recently, with UL's turnovers I would almost tend to agree, except that UL ALWAYS seems to play to it's competition, which would be great with Florida, which also rises their intensity...I feel very strongly that if UL did not turn the ball over against FLA, they would win handily.
And if Ohio State hadn't had an amazing defense and they hadn't been the better team, then my Irish would have killed them in Arizona last winter.
And I do not think UL would beat Florida, and certainly not handily, that is just a looney statement.
-
For CovCath to win the championship, they may have to beat (assuming no upsets), Highlands, LexCath, Johnson Central, and Bowling Green. I doubt you will find a tougher road than that.
Same with Highlands. 3A is no walk this year for CCH/HHS.
-
The only reason I'm excited for NBA season is that NCAA will be starting soon.
And Wade is a player.
