Wow! Good luck to the panthers. As good as they are I still don't see an upset, but this would be either a good, or fun game to watch.

That is no good for team morale.
You aren't kidding, thats sad...

Last Year Cawood Ran a lot of Jet, Not so much of the Wing-T.
The Only team that i have seen run the real Wing-T, Was Cawood when I played there a few years ago.
The Wing-T can be very hard to stop, But if you run into a Team that has a good defense for the Wing-T, They will shut it down. Example = M'boro
Cumberland runs a wing-t that looks like a single back formation, with two wing backs usually place to the outside and behind the tight ends. The only problem with that is that you need fast guards who can get to their blocks quickly and a good center who can engage the nose guard.

Lundy is a pretty good back. But to say one of the best in EKY is strecting it a bit. :thumb:
I understand what you're saying. Lundy has great field vision though and also clocked a 4.68 forty time. Luttrell on the other hand, I do not know much about. I know his father (John) was a freakish athlete.
-
How will the teams in the county end up this year? (Harlan, Cawood, Evarts, and Cumberland.) All teams are returning good athletes. Please post any comments or predictions.:ylsuper:
-
With all the possible football camps in Kentucky and surrounding areas, sometimes athletes aren't given enough information about these camps, so I was thinking that a "camp" section could be added to the website, remember its just a suggestion.:thumb:

Hunter Luttrell- Harlan High School. Transfered from South Oldham during the school year. Also Jon Lundy who played quarterback his freshman, sophomore, and junior season will see time at both places.
-
Chase Jones, JR.-Harlan High School, 6'3, 175'ish.
-
Why aren't the state title games played at Commonwealth Stadium. I like it a lot better, but I'm just wondering why Papa John's?
-
How about some stats on this Lutrell kid. I know of his father and knew his brother pretty well. How does he look as far as speed and size? What class is he going to be in? Also, is there any truth to the rumor that is going around concerning the posibility that defensive guru Eric Perry will no longer be there next year and Frank Shope will be calling the defensive shots? :sssh:
I'm not sure about Lutrell's stats, however he'll be in my grade (junior) this upcoming season. And as far as the Coach Perry question, the story I've heared is that he is going back to school to receive his master's degree I think, but he will still analyze the film with the coaches on the weekend and prepare a defensive game plan on the weekends, however Coach Shope will also be assisting in that and will be there to call the shots. Back to Lutrell, through our weighlifting and agility exercises, he hasn't "maxed-out" with us yet, but his reps on bench, clean, and squat are pretty strong from what I can tell. He's very fast and cuts very well! If I were guessing he's probably around a 4.6 forty? He's got the pedigree to be an excellent player.

In SEKY, the 3 QB's to watch will be:
Clint Cashen (Corbin)
Ricky Bowling (South Laurel)
Thomas Frazier (Williamsburg)
Ross Deaton (Somerset)
Clay County's young QB (I am sorry, but I can't recall his name temporarily, but he was very solid last year as a frosh I believe)
Harlan's Chase Jones (6'2 170lbs) has excellent height and is unbelievebly accurate. He should have a break out season especially with Will Pope as a target.
-
What is a six class system?
-
Somerset should be the favorite for the district title. They return Ross Deaton and John Cole, maybe the best qb-wr combo in Class A. Somerset will need another reciever and a runningback to step up. Replacing the likes of Ray Norman and Scott Newell will not be easy.
Lynn Camp I would think is second right now. LC returns possibly the best O-line in the region. This line has played together for three years, and in the last two years LC has gained over 5000 yards the last two years on the ground. LC also returns 1000 yard Joe Roskopf who imo will be the top back in the region this up coming season. Concerns for LC will be the play of their defense which struggled at times last season, depth which is also a concern, and special teams. 3 out of LC last 4 losses have been the results of poor special teams play. Two of which have cost them second round exits in the last two playoff years.
Williamsburg is my early pick for third. The Jackets return almost their entire team, including Tomas Frazier and Chase Hamblin, and Aaron Root who is a very good lineman on offense and LB on defense. Concerns for the Jackets will be size and injury. WHS was hurt by injuries last season.
Harlan is a team that you always have to be ready for, they are big and physical. They play very good defense, usually stat wise one of the tops in the region. The problem for dragons was on offense, they struggled to score, and losing Teddy Thompson will not help, but if they can find some offense this season, they will be a contender for the district title.
Cumberland is a team that was young last season, and also should be better. They have a very good shot at the playoffs, Michael Washington returns to Cumberland. If he doesn't the Skins still could have enough for the playoffs. I like the play of their young qb last season.
Evarts lost a lot from last season, and to be honest don't know much about them coming up. They are well coached, they will be big and physical, and could the dark horse in the 06 season.
Pineville returns some good players in Adams and Lord, and they like most of the teams in the district had big lineman. They have also struggled the score in recent years, and have a lot of trouble holding on to the ball. With their coach leaving they have a lot of unanswered questions right now. Pineville has improved since they went 0 and 10 in 04, but not sure if they have enough to make the playoffs.
LC, I don't know if you remember John Lutrell who played for Harlan years back, but his son Hunter Lutrell (a transfer from South Oldham) will probably be seeing time at running back and linebacker this season. He comes from a great pedigree of athletes so only time will tell on how he will help our team. Personally I would rank us above Williamsburgh just for the simple fact of the lines. We return every starter on our Offensive Line and only lost one senior on our Defensive Line. They have a wonderful set of skilled positions, but the "fat boys" up front are the ones who win games. But I believe we should give "the camp" a much better showing than we did this past season..lol. However, We also have a great skilled unit returning, considering the fact we only lost 5 seniors. Do you know how many on Lynn Camp's offensive line are returning?

I've seen a few 500 lb squats but the 600 is bit hard to believe, and to have that many good squatters ashland needs to be winning some state championships or running for about 1,000 yards an outting.
Harlan's Jake Anderson last season put up around 700 lbs on squat, i think the highest he got was 670?

Does anybody have a pic of what Saint Xavier's rings looked like last year?
-
Any thoughts on who will be the top team in this district? Harlan returns about 13-14 senoirs with a very experienced line on both sides of the ball. :thumb:
-
Everbody else is posting pictures of their rings, I'm the sure the shamrocks spare no expense when purchasing theirs. Any pics?

It is only for graduated seniors. Underclassmen cannot play. It would be illegal. It cost about 3,000 dollars to go. You play two games and stop off at Hawaii for a couple of days on the way back. If you can afford it it is OK. It will not help you get a scholarship at a college. They will take anyone with the money. A lot of kids get invited. They have to invite everybody hoping to get enough players to have a team. As far as being prestigious, I don't think so, since all seniors have a chance to go. I do believe that Tom Pozey is the coach. Not trying to say not go, but just let you know that hundreds get invitations. If they invite underclassmen it is because they don't know you are not a graduate from high school. GO if you can, it would be fun and a good experience.
Sorry then. I got invited to some bowl then.

I am looking for information on the Down Under Bowl put on by International Sports Specialists Inc. It is a trip to New Zealand to play for the KY state team. My son received information on this and I am wondering if it is a worthwhile venture?
I got invited my freshmen season and this season, I just didn't go because of the price!:scared:

Harlan v.s. Cawood is always a great season opening game! Not as big of teams as LexCath v.s. St.X, but a good small-town, hard-hitting game.:fight:
-
Who do you think in Harlan's history would best fill these positions:
QB: Steven Brock, J.B. Donahue
RB: Frank Shope, T.J. Dunson, Jamie Jacobs
WR:
TE:
OL: Jonathan Lee, Timbo Noe, Jake Anderson
DL: Jake Anderson
LB: Todd Maggard, Frank Shope

1998-1999 Harlan Green Dragons. Beating Pikeville pretty badly in first half, in the second half, the starting tailback (Ben Smith) broke his leg. Pikeville went on to win, then got beat by the "University of Beechwood", as anyother mountain team.
