  1. They were set to got to 2A in a district with Corbin, Middlesboro, Leslie Co. and Knott Co. Except for Corbin which is about an hour away by bus the other 3 teams are way over an hour away. They asked to move up to 3A with Wayne Co., Garrard Co., Jackson Co., Taylor Co., and Casey Co. The longest drive is right at an hour. Now as a Jumper fan the 3A district is MUCH weaker than the proposed 2A district so I think it could be a combination of the 2 reasons. I hope that it is because of travel and not team strength, Middlesboro, Leslie and Knott are a haul from Somerset.

I can see why they would want to move to 3A if they were gonna have Corbin, Middlesboro, Leslie Co. and Knott Co. Exactly the reason they came into our district, running from Danville.:thumb:

  2. Aaron Mullins for Breathitt County. 6'2" 225lbs. He has some of the best feet I have seen for an O line man. He's a little light in the britches but he makes up for it in fundamentals. He is pretty quick. He would probably make a great tight end in college.

I had the pleasure of lining up against him in our game against Breathitt. I will agree he's one of the best centers I've lined up against this year.

  3. Are you saying everyone in Harlan is ok with not winning but just holding us to 14???

Nope, but just answering this post as asked begs for retrospective information. Looking back at most of you good Somerset fan's postings from last week, Harlan was beaten by 40 points. I'd say we exceeded your expectations.

  4. Lynn Camp needs to rally after their showing at Cumberland (not taking anything away from cumberland!) Last year was an awesome game between these two teams, but IMO, Somerset has too much speed for Lynn Camp, but Lynn Camp seems to be the more physical team. Since Somerset handed Cumberland a big "whoopin", I'll say S:54 LC:35

  5. Somersets kicker John Wright Polk is probably the best ever to pass through Somerset. He is putting about every kick-off into the endzone and is dead on when it comes to EPs and Field Goals.

I'll agree, I saw him at the Williamsburgh and Somerset game last friday, that kid has a leg!!!

While I'm on the subject, didn't Middlesboro have a kicker around 1998-1999 that set a state record for longest filegoal (63-64 yards?) However, this info is just "hear-say" so correct me if I'm wrong.:thumb:

  6. This one is looking VERY bad for the Wildcats, however, don't count the Wildcats out because they looked very good against a passing attack (similar, but not as good as Somerset's) against Cumberland. Somerset scores as they wish, and Evarts puts up 2 scores.

  7. So are you saying these two are the best in the mountains? Or just the best on your team?

Sorry to make it sound like that. I know that Will Pope has had some offers from college, not sure if they're for punting or receiving, but he has the size and the hands to be considered one. However, its hard to get the receiving yards that make you stand out when you're being double covered like he is. IMO, Pope and Cole (somerset) are they best two in the mountains.

  8. In my view, Becham Herald from Breathitt is one of the best in the mountains. Also that back from Leslie. Channing Fugate is only a freshman for the bobcats but watch out for him.

I will agree, both of those kids create a great backfield for the Bobcat's, and Fugate will be a great one to watch in the years to come.

  9. I have to agree with LC99 on this one. I think Lynn Camp's defense is the one that needs to be getting the compliments from this game. While Harlan gets the win, this was by no means their best game defensively. They allowed 283 yards on the ground and 302 total yards. While this doesn't sound horrible for an entire game, it wasn't as good as Lynn Camps defense which allowed only 186 yards for the entire game. If it wasn't for some big plays on special teams and the Lundy interception, this game would be a Lynn Camp win. As far as saying that the "Dragon defense [was] unaffected by the Camp's big front line," I think that 283 yards on the ground IS CONSIDERED getting affected. Harlan had better improve before the playoffs on both sides of the ball because it is very likely that these two teams see each other in the first round. Good win nevertheless.

283 yards is an excellent game on the ground, considering Mr. Roskopf touched the ball around 30-35 times.

  10. Thoughts and Predictions?

Good luck to both teams! I'm looking forward to our game against Williamsburgh next week and Somerset at the end of the season. As far as predictions, I don't belive Williamsburgh has the defense to cover the Deaton and Mr. Cole combo, so I'll go out on a limb and say that Somerset scores as many as they can, and Williamsburgh ends up with 21.

  11. Hard fought win for the bobcats, I tip my hat off to their defense for playing well against our offense. We HAD a chance to comeback and win with about 8 minutes left in the game, Harlan was within 30 yards of the endzone, and an interception gave the bobcats a chance to run the clock out. Harlan continues to a district rival against Lynn Camp next week.
