Such a great game. I love(d) playing and now getting to watch these two teams play. Very similar in what they want to do on offense. Once again it will come down to speed for Harlan. If Wagner is playing, Harlan doesn't have anyone fast enough to run him down if he breaks a big one. However, Harlan's defensive line will have to step up and have a big game and try to force him to stay between the hashes (which they could be capable of doing). Harlan's offense will have to step up and put some points on the board, any way they can. If Harlan is able to contain Wagner, have offensive success and maybe win the special teams battle then they could beat LC.

I'm going for my alma mater as always: H-14 LC-7.

The Harlan atmosphere is nowhere near as hostile as it used to be. There were times years ago that you wondered if you, were indeed, "going to get out of Harlan alive"!:lol:

Wow what a blast from the past...and you're right. Harlan has lost that "swagger" that a certain a coach helped instill. Maybe lost it with the coach, but as many people have said in this thread: McCreary will out-number Harlan with athletes. You simply can't beat speed without speed.

The boys in green come in as the sure under-dogs but remember two years back when Harlan also went to Hazard as the under-dogs and...well it just wasn't pretty for Hazard.

However, that year was a special year for Harlan. More so than anything, I think this game could be good for the Dragons. They'll be able to play against some of the top competition class A has to offer this year and it will be a great growing experience for the younger boys in green. As very new alumnist I'll still be rooting for the upset as will every fan from Harlan, but Hazard is just too good. I think if the Dragon's defense can pressure Olinger and keep him contained as he scrambles then they'll be able to keep the score close, but Harlan isn't very well known for their secondary and it could possibly get ugly if they try to just cover Hazard all night.

Just a thought, maybe some of these kids you mention don't like J.B. for some reason. Maybe he is too hard on them or maybe they don't think the same way. No ones fault some people just can't mesh. Someone brought up basketball in the 90's. I was at Cawood in that time and I know there were a lot of guys who were really good basketball players in middle school and p.e. class that didn't like cawoods basketball coach so they wouldn't play. Could have made them a lot better and the coach got to see the talent he was missing out on in p.e. almost everyday. Just a mystery I guess.

If they don't wanna play for Donahue just because they don't like him, then I don't believe they wouldn want to play anywhere else in the state. Donahue is a demanding coach, but the demands are to only make yourself and your team better, the concept of pretty much any coach. Football should be played out of pure passion and love for the game, not because you don't like the defense, offense, weight training, the coach.

As for the problems Harlan faces, I believe speed more so than anything is their biggest factor. Hensley, and Hensley alone is about the only Harlan has that runs a sub-4.8 forty. That's why I believe Harlan's secondary struggles, because in highschool, secondary mistakes are common, but Harlan's mistakes lead to TD's because they're unable to regain ground and catch the man with the ball.

Well that Letcher angle came from just talking to a few Cumberland players I know. I don't think it would make mutch since, however, LCC has developed a pretty darn good program recently. I believe the middle school changed the rules on transfer students where they wouldn't have to miss a year of eligibility, so that could help Harlan (like lungbuster said) in years to come, and could make for some interesting seasons for Coach Anderson and Seragus. I wish the High School would make the change as well.

I doubt many of the County kids will attend Harlan due to the tuition, not implying anything about finances but it is a butt-load to pay. From people I've talked to, more than likely most Cumberland students will probably journey to LCC (Letcher Co.) and the Cawood and Evats players will be at HCHS.

Back to Harlan now. The team speed has improved A LOT since last year. The fastest forty times were Allen Hensley at a 4.71 and Eric Robinson in the high 4.7's. It should be an interesting year considering they have three likely prospects at the QB position (Hensly, Pennington, and Carr.) The line should be the strong-point for the Dragons as they return four starters on offense (Cole, Dugger, Hill, and Allen) and one on defense (Hill). Returning linebackers will be Pennington and Link (moving down from Safety). If they continue working as hard as they have in the offseason, Harlan make a huge turn around on a tragic past season.

What about Jon Cole? Broke several records as a junior alone. Surely he's up there.

When Harlan has played them in the previous years, the only thing that has really worked against it is lining up and just trying to run over them. (As shown in 2005 when harlan lost 26-20). However, Bell County in the past has just lined up in the wishbone and run over them as well. As for improving, their offense seems to thrive off a very athletic quarterback such as Hoskins and Adams. So, the challenge will be to find someone to replace Adams as I'm assuming he's graduating.

Cumberland - Charles Tinsley (from what I've heard; better at baseball)

Evarts - Scott Russell (Mr. Football)

Harlan - TJ Dunson (from what I've heard)

TJ Duson is probably Harlan's best running back, as well as Jamie Jacobs. A name that goes unheared though is Ben Smith from the '99 Regional Runner-Up team.

Just some hear-say; Somerset's coach has been brought up in the running. Don't ask who its from, just throwing it out there. (Can't remember Somerset's coache's name for the life of me.)

Wow, gutsy call SuperB. Look at it this way, Cumberland defeated Harlan by a couple of touchdowns. Jenkins came back in over time to beat the Dragons. Personally, I don't think Jenkins has the speed and athleticism to keep up with all of the Redskins' weapons. I'm gonna say C-42 J-14.

We appreciate the love and support...always nice to know that people up towards I-75 have our backs. Aside from that, how's "Super Syd" been performing in Roskopf's absence?

What PCC has shown in the film we've watched is a 4-4 defense. Now, I may be mistaken, but four down linemen; two over the guards and two the move around the C gap sounds like a forty front to me. And, with four linebackers stacked behind them, that just doesn't sound like a 5-3 to me. However, not to get off subject, anybody heared any news about Roskopf from Lynn Camp?

Depends on how well Cawood defends the run in this one. They did a good job against Harlan, so I really don't see them having any problems with Evarts.
