  1. That's what Norwood Ohio thought when GM was there. Bativia OH is going through a tough time because of the Ford Transmission plant is closing. How many of those former employees will be on government assistance? Let's face it all companies come and go and all companies have good points and bad points. Casino's are not the solution to every problem is our society. On the other hand they are not cause of every problem in our society. They could work in KY.
  2. There are only so many "Toyota's" in the world and there are only so many subsidies you can give to farmers. This is something brand new to the state that has a potential to bring in billions without tax incentives.
  3. Lives are not ruined by gambling, they are ruined by losing:fight::fight:
  4. What if there wasn't a lottery? Would education be worse, better or the same?
  5. A casino in Newport or Covington would most likely attract people that don’t venture to Indiana. The Reds have 80 plus home games. People already come from Columbus, Huntington, Indy, etc. for a Reds game. The Bengals have 10 home games (including pre-season), that bring people in from all over the country. Plus all the conventions that go on in Downtown Cincinnati. Lawrenceburg is mostly locals. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, NKY has that!
  6. From a person who gambles....It's not easy!:jump: I don't gamble to get rich, it's fun, it's entertainment and exciting.
  7. http://www.libraryindex.com/pages/1573/Casinos-Commercial-Casinos-INDIANA.html As stated in the Indiana Gaming Commission Annual Report, total admission and wagering taxes paid in fiscal year 2004 were $742 million. Total admission and wagering taxes paid from the inception of riverboat gambling in 1995 through 2004 were nearly $3.8 billion.
  8. Are you sure you weren’t at the McDonalds Restaurant boat in front of the Arch? Or maybe their parents were working?:p:p
  9. I've been to Vegas many times, I've also been to Tunica, almost every Indiana Casino, New Orleans, Kansas City, St. Louis, Atlantic City, Freeport and many others too. Vegas is just the biggest that is why crime figures are the biggest. In my mind Tunica Mississippi should me the model for any area wanting to approve gamming.
  10. The average Joe doesn't take food off the table. The average Joe is responsible productive citizen.
  11. It seems like lately that Ohio is in the business of taking rights away, I don't think they will approve gamming any time soon!
  12. Wrong! Casinos don't want the person playing penny slots. They want the "Whales", the "High Rollers". That's where they make the money and that's who get the comps.
  13. I second that, on the other hand I work for an airline and had some of my company stock in my 401k. I didn't sell my airline stock when everone else did because I was GAMBLING that the company would rebound. Well.......I LOST, and a lesson learned.
  14. It seems ironic that we give hundreds and thousands of dollars in tax incentives to companies like Toyota and the likes but now we are talking about charging more taxes to a company that would love to do business in our state.
  15. The people that are anti-casino, have you ever been to a casino? I think some of you have the impression that it’s just a place to throw little Johnny’s College fund away. It’s more than that. It usually consists of a large hotel, great comedy and musical acts. Some have a golf course or two. First class restaurants and nightclubs. Many have large convention and meeting centers. It’s not the dark, smoke filled room that is in old westerns. I go to Las Vegas around 4 times a year, a lot of the time I’m not there to gamble, just to enjoy the other attractions.
  16. The fundamental concept is the same in my mind. You buy into a business hoping the stock will rise so you make a profit. I will double down on a 10 when the dealer shows a 4 so I can win and profit. If you are a smart investor you will profit, if you are a careless investor you will lose. If you are a smart gambler you will still probably lose, but it will be a lot more fun and you get a free buffet!
  17. The stock market is nothing more than gambling. I don't get the whole moral decay thing? Is our society that fragile? I think some people have watched "Back To The Future II" a few too many times!
  18. Moral decay? Do you have money in the stock market?
  19. What made the mob rich was prohibition. When that was repealed they had to find something else. But that was a different time in history, Look at Tunica Mississippi, which was the poorest county in the entire United States. Now the citizens of that county don’t pay property tax nor do they pay for water or sanitation services and they have 2 brand new schools. Now that is an extreme case that will never happen in KY, but casinos have shed the dark, evil, shady past that they had.
  20. I thought it was going to be video gamming (Slots, video Poker, Keno, etc.) at the race tracks? I don't think KY will go for "All Out" Casinos like Indiana or Mississippi.
  21. Before the renovation there was a very small corner of the endzone that was on the track coverd with turf. Why it was there, who knows? But it is fixed. Also, in all my years playing on that field and watching games (over 25 years) I have never seen or heard of any player getiing hurt in the tiny corner of the endzone.
  22. The field is turf (udated last season) the track has been upgraded, new lights, the bathroom upgraded and added a consession stand. One of the finest fields in NKY now. Also Newcath is looking into building a field, they just have limited land on the hill.
