  1. And has had some long winning streaks broken too.

Billy has some streaks that he shouldn't be proud of, but Tubby had his share as well.

As I've said, they're one-and-the same with me.

What Tubby has that Billy doesn't is class.

  2. Tubby has been offered NBA jobs before, and has turned them down. UK has gotten worse the past 2 years under Gillispie. This is by far the worst team I've ever watched play at UK, and way too talented to be playing this bad.

Expectations are different at UK & Minnesota, but Tubby is leading Minnesota a lot closer to UK expectations than those he sees at UM.

Tubby inherited a program at UK that could only go down. Gillispie has inherited a program that seemingly can only go up, and has somehow found a way to make them worse.

To me it's no comparison, Tubby is a top 10 coach in the country, whereas Gillispie maybe makes the top 30....

How many NBA jobs was Tubby offered his last two years @ UK?

You're right. Tubby could not have realistically elevated UK when he arrived. But how he left it and how he inherited it were a far cry from one another.

What Rick left Tubby & what Tubby left Billy reveals that Tubby is not a top-10 coach.

  3. Patterson is solid. But I honestly think he needs to stay at UK to develop his game for the NBA. The level of post-defense in the NBA will far outweigh the collapsing he's experiencing at the college level.

For Pat to excel in the pros, he has to develop a much better 10-12 foot shot. And, like Chuck Hayes before him, he'll have to be a blue-collar type that earns his playing time on effort & tenacity and not sheer talent.

  4. Probably not a great comparison. A&M is an average program that was at rock bottom. The only place to go was up. Similar to what Tubby is experiencing @ Minnesota.

But to answer your question, I did see A&M when Billy was there. I thought they were hard-nosed and good on the perimeter. I actually had them in the Final 4 in my bracket his last year there. And I think they had what it took to be that kind of team.

It's just hard to compare what he inherited there to what he inherited here. Two completely different programs.

  5. Do you guys think the talent level was worse than what Billy took over at A&M? He turned that around very quickly...

I don't really know the team he took over @ A&M. But I don't see any indication that he'll turn UK around anytime soon. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.

  6. Not a good comparison--Tubby @ Minnesota vs. Billy @ UK. Two different programs with two completely different levels of expectation.

Tubby inherited a top-10 caliber program at UK. He left it anything but that.

Billy inherited an average squad, and at the very best, has maintained that status. We have not improved at all from Tubby to Billy.

If Tubby were the great coach that some claim him to be, he would have left UK for the Minnesota TIMBERWOLVES & not the Minnesota GOLDEN GOPHERS. Tubby is a GOOD coach, and a quality human being. I respect him for that greatly. But he's not a GREAT coach.

Billy, like Tubby, has proven to be able to rebuild average programs, but has not seen that success at a major program like UK.

I see Bubble Billy & Ten Loss Tubby in the same category. Good coaches for average programs. But not great coaches for top-notch programs.

  7. What's wrong with this team? Maybe the better question is what's RIGHT with this team?

    A) We have a starting point guard who would be fortunate to be a BACKUP point guard on any other top-25 type of team.

    B) We do not have a single player outside of Jodie Meeks who is a perimeter scoring threat, or a threat to drive & get to the basket.

    C) We have a coach who seems to prefer the long & lanky player who can get very little accomplished offensively--especially from the perimeter (see Liggins, Miller, Galloway).

    D) We have a coach who has yet to figure out how to defend a spread offense/4-around-1 that has beaten us three consecutive games.

    E) We have a coach who scoffs at the need for a consistent third scorer, and opts for the "Third Scorer By Committee" mentality, which has gotten us nowhere.

    F) We have a program that, for the 4th straight year, has not been anywhere close to being in the Final Four conversation (which is an indictment on both Tubby & Billy).

    G) We have nothing arriving in the future to address ANY of our scoring needs.

We're in shambles right now, and there is nothing on the radar indicating we'll be anything but that in the near future.

  8. How can one be opposed to abortion and supportive of the death penalty?

    Innocent vs. guilty.

Having said that, I don't see the value of the death penalty when there is so much time between the crime committed and the execution (no pun intended) of the punishment. I am not opposed to the death penalty, but I am opposed to it when a decade elapses between crime & punishment. It is not a deterrent in that scenario. I would not have a problem if the death penalty, as we know it in America, was outlawed.

And I can't believe that some people do not view life in the womb as life. Surgeries are performed regularly on children in the womb. In one instance, a doctor at Vanderbilt was performing surgery, and the child's hand grasped the doctor's finger in the process.

When a woman has an abortion, it's not her heart that stops beating. When the chemicals are injected to end life in the womb, it's not the mother's body that shirks and resists the burning.

I did not vote for Obama, because his record is one of doing whatever necessary to keep this barbaric procedure legal.

My vote has NEVER and WILL NEVER be based on race. If former Congressman J.C. Watts of Oklahoma ran for President, I'd vote for him. As I would vote for Mr. Steele of Maryland (I think it's Maryland). I have never voted pro-abortion and never will.

  9. Where am I at with Billy G? The same place I was at w/ Tubby: frustrated.

He hasn't done himself any favors. His unorthodox ways (hard practices on game days). His abrasiveness with the media (like his stupid comment in the ESPN halftime interview vs. Ole Miss). His completely unpredictable substitution patterns. Completely embarrassing losses to the likes of Gardner Webb & VMI, and the blowout @ Vandy last year.

I wasn't sold on Billy G when he came, and he's done nothing whatsoever to convince me he's the man for the job. Like many, I wanted Tubby gone, but wasn't sure Billy was the right replacement.

  10. Holmes & Scott County are tops--we all knew that to start the year--and it's proving to be right as we wind things down.

As for the rest? It would be a combination of teams from the 6th, 7th, & 11th regions. And with their All A title, Shelby Valley would be another. Other than Holmes, I think about 6-8 of your top Kentucky teams are from these three regions.

The next tier of teams--being ranked around 8-12--would perhaps be Warren Central, Elliott County, Clark County, and Mason County.

  11. If it plays out as the rankings show, you could realistically see any of those 4 bottom-bracket teams in the Saturday semis (Mason/Clark, Shelby Valley, Anderson Co., Elliott Co.). Should make for an interesting close to the 1st & 2nd rounds.

And the possibility of Scott Co. vs. Holmes in the quarters is interesting, to say the least.

  12. Haven't seen SV play this year. I have seen Elliott, and I think the key to beating them is to execute a controlled, patient half-court offense for 32 minutes. Tough to do against Elliott, because of their constant pressure, but if SV has the guards to handle it, they can beat Elliott.

Having said that, I'll take Elliott by 5--a blind prediction of sorts, but a prediction nonetheless.

  13. There is a case to be made for UK being in the top 25, and there's also a case against it. While I'd like to see us ranked, I'm not so sure we would be able to handle that kind of "prosperity" (which is a shame...that we're begging to be ranked in the first place).

We really haven't beaten anyone to date. I suppose most would say West Va. & Tennessee are our biggest wins. From what I've seen, Auburn has been the best SEC team we've beaten. They're experienced and can spread you out. They just lack interior play. I'd rather play Tennessee on their home floor than Auburn on theirs.

Cats are playing well, but it's been against weaker competition. And I'm not so sure we're better than Florida. They put an absolute spanking on Vandy this weekend.

  14. This bothers me more than just because of the abortion. If we have funds to be providing abortions in other countries why do we need high taxes on anyone to support stimulus packages. Looks like if the times are as bad as the President would suggest, we would focus on the home front first, rather than giving luxuries (In the sense that it's a choice) like abortions to other countries citizens.

    Good point.

  15. This will happen everytime there is a change in political party, so get used to it.

I would suggest to those that make themselves a one issue voters that really limit your power and influence with such a stand. If I know that having you on this one issue makes you a secure vote I have no need to concern myself with any other interests you may have.

"Get used to" butchering babies? No thanks.

As far as labeling me a one-issue voter, so be it. You could be pro-life and still not get my vote. Ron Paul was pro-life, but I wouldn't have voted for him. Mitt Romney CLAIMED to be pro-life, but I wouldn't have voted for him either.

But if you're pro-abortion, you will not get my vote under any circumstance. So I guess I am a one-issue voter in that respect, and I make no apologies for it. If the pols aren't going to defend the most innocent and vulnerable lives, someone must.

  16. I am liking more and more how this team plays.

Play hard on defense and Foster Brooks is running a nice offense that is hard to guard for Meeks/Patterson.

No injuries and the younger players continue to develop and cut down on the TO's AND they get the right matchups in the draws and I think an Elite 8 run is VERY feasible.

Foster Brooks...thought for sure somebody would catch that one. Nice!

I'm still not sold on UK. The SEC is plain lousy. And I'm waiting for the inevitable injury that will derail us.

Second round. Ole Foster hasn't won a post-season game yet @ UK.

  17. Some of that mess, is not really a mess and he doesn't need to change it.

Example A is the pending Executive Order that would allow tax money to be used to fund abortions. Reagan first denied it with an Executive Order. Bush-Dad continued the denial. Clinton allowed the state to pay for the killing of unborn children. Bush-son stopped it. The word is that O will allow our tax dollars to go back to funding the killing of unborn children through abortion.

    Ugh....sickening
